  1. Can someone tell me how to post with multiquotes. I can't seem to do it.

Cruise Critic will allow you to multi-quote two posts at a time. They really need to raise the limit, but I digress. To multi-quote, click on the middle button on the lower right hand side of the first post you want to quote. It's the button with a plus sign on a form & quotations. On the other post you want to quote, click on "quote" at the bottom right hand side. Both posts should be there. Alternatively, you can copy & paste the post you want to quote. Begin by typing

    for example
without the spaces. Paste the post you're quoting, then type [/quote ] without the space. I hope that makes sense. Let me know, if it doesn't.
  2. I only have 1 beaded gown and my best friend told me that it's an "old ladies'" dress and for me not to wear it. My other ones has glitter and sequins....:p......I too, am having to learn not to take everything but the kitchen sink....VERY HARD for me to learn.....but since I have started more cruises where I have to fly to, it's better....but it ain't easy .......I am sure it will be fine and others will be in similar clothing....Just have a good time and don't worry about it

I'm taking a beaded gown on my cruise in a couple weeks. It's costing $50 just to have it hemmed. I guess I'll just look like an old lady, because I have too much money in it to leave it at home. lol

It's nice to see a fellow kitchen sink packer. :D I take everything in the house, plus shop like crazy to add to that.

  3. I contacted princess directly to inquire on the wine card. Looks as though they are now offering on all cruises 10 days or longer.

Thanks for the update. Based on previous posts, we were planning to buy the package on our 10 night cruise. KruzPrincess' post had us rethinking our plans. I'm glad to see we can get the package for dining room consumption.

  4. Since Island Princess doesn't have any AFT facing cabins, I don't think it makes that much difference where your cabin is located. On ships with AFT facing cabins, those are gold in Alaska. You can't beat the ship blocking the wind. We could use our balcony, when many people said the wind kept them from using theirs. My 2nd cruise to Alaska was in an OV cabin, which was my sisters' choice. There were times it was too cold to be on deck. It was a totally different experience than I had the first time with my DH & DS. At times like that, you'll be happy to have the mini-suite. I hope you have nice weather for your cruise. It's a beautiful place to cruise.

  5. Maybe those other 1000 people live on the east coast and don't care about us in Southern Calif and the southwest region. They have the Carribean. I hope everyone on this thread will notigy Princess that they would like this trip and when you cruise make sure you drop the suggestion to everyone you can and in the drop box. Thanks all for supporting my idea.

I can't speak for most East Coasters, but I'd be more enthusiastic about this type of itinerary, if it started in Seattle & stopped at more ports in Alaska. If we're going to fly anyway, we might as well fly to Seattle to see more of Alaska. I would prefer to see San Francisco & other West Coast stops on a land vacation. There's too much to see to make a short stop in those ports worthwhile. We once spent 3 days pre-cruise in SF & only scratched the surface.

As far as East Coast sailings, how many times can one enjoy the same Caribbean ports? We've sailed from the West Coast three times & will again. The fact that we have the Caribbean doesn't mean we have the whole world open to us w/o flying.

I wouldn't say Princess favors the East Coast. There aren't any ships here in the summer. At least, the West Coast has the cruises to Alaska. It's about even in the fall. There are more ships here in the winter, but you can't sail to Alaska in the winter. They may feel there aren't enough warm destinations from the West Coast to fill more ships that time of year. As I so frequently tell my son, the grass isn't always greener. It just seems that way.

I'm not saying I have a problem with them sailing to Alaska roundtrip out of LA. It doesn't really matter to me either way. For all of your sake, I hope it works out. I'm just saying it's not that desirable of an itinerary, unless you live in that area. They would have to decide, if there's enough people in that area to fill the ship. Since I have to fly, leaving from Seattle on a 14 day Alaska r/t would be much more desirable. I love sea days, but I also want to see more of Alaska.

  6. I would like to see them bring back the 14 day round trip out of Seattle that included more ports than J,S, and K. I took 2 of those when they were offered and thought they were fantastic.

I prefer this option. On our first cruise to Alaska, along with the big 3, we also stopped at Sitka & Icy Strait Point. Alaska has so much more to offer than the big 3 ports. As a matter of fact, if it weren't for the dog sledding tour in Juneau, Sitka & ISP would have been the best stops on that cruise. They were much more memorable than Ketchikan & Skagway. We also prefer r/t to one-way cruises.

  7. We prefer to drink wine at dinner and not in our room so we rarely take more then 1 or 2 bottles with us and do usually purchase wine at dinner.

We're the same. We always share a bottle at dinner, but never drink wine in our cabin. I'm hoping we'll be able to pre-purchase a package for our Oct., Island cruise. It's nice to pay for as much as possible in advance. We'll still carry on a few bottles of dessert wines to have a glass each with dessert. Their dessert wine list is severely lacking, IMHO.

  8. Just returned from our Bodden tour last week-- had a private tour booked and when we went to Victor's place to settle up our charges, we ended up doing the zip line (that we hadn't planned-- did feel some pressure to purchase this $180 add-on for our family of 4).

It was our first time zipping, and we did have fun on the experience and felt safe with our two guides. Some of the zips do take place over open fields, so if you are wanting the "zipping-through-the-rainforest" experience, you might be better off with a different facility for zipping. If you are experienced zippers, you might want a more exciting place as these were probably pretty tame lines compared to others... (they were plenty adventurous for us as first-timers with young kids, but probably not intended for thrill seekers!

We just got back from our trip. I booked with Victor and requested Lany. We had a terrific day. Lany gave us a wonderful tour. He gave us a lot of info about the island and each of the towns that we drove through. We had a couple of stops for pictures (views/shipwrecks), shopping (lencan pottery and mahogany products are popular), monkeys (absolutely hysterical - hang on to your hats and sunglasses). We did not zip line or do any type of beach stay. We had lunch at Celeste Island Cuisine at West Bay Lodge. Definitely try the baleada. Mom had shrimp and said it was delicious. I had the grouper and thought it was delicious as well. Overall we had a terrific day and my mom wants to know when we are playing with the monkeys and having baleadas again.

Thanks for the reviews. :) I love hearing what others did to give us ideas on what to request. We already know our DS wants to go zip-lining & see the monkeys. Other than that, we want to have a bit of a local's experience. I'd like to get a glimpse into their every day life & see their churches, schools, etc. We definitely don't want to shop. I don't think we'll go to a beach either. We have water tours at our other 3 ports.

  9. Hi - did you put in a request for Hanno with Victor? If he's available Victor will allow you to book a specific guide. We toured with Tex. It was fabulous and we didn't at all feel like we were being taken to places he got a kickback. We picked and chose what we wanted to do. He did suggest our lunch place which we loved.

I requested Tex, Ali, or Hanno. That was the names I picked up from here. We're booked with Hanno. I guess Tex & Ali were already booked. It sounds like we'll be happy with Hanno. I'd love to hear more experiences from people who toured with him too.

  10. Thanks to the feedback here, we booked our tour. Victor said it appears Hanno is still available, so I'm hoping we got him. I'm assuming he speaks very good English. We've reserved private tours before, & could barely understand anything our guide said. Needless to say, that definitely detracts from the tour. As long as I can understand them & they don't try to take us from one place to another for them to get kickbacks, I'm good. :) We've had that happen on tours too.

  11. Rachel,

Thanks again for the info. :) We booked this tour mostly for the tubing. The falls are just an added bonus. We went tubing in Texas & had a blast. The funny thing is, I was raised very close to a river in NC, but had never been before. I have one more question about Phil's tour. I have read that the place he takes you to for lunch isn't very good. Is this true? What was it like? It's not that big of a deal, because we plan to stop by Margaritaville afterwards, & I love the conch fritters. :D

  12. Thanks for all the info. & suggestions. :) DH & I talked about it, after reading the posts & both agree that we really just want to see & experience the falls. If we make it all the way to the top, fine. If not, it's not like it's a big goal of ours. We'll just play it by ear. Will we have a problem leaving the chain at some point in the tour, if necessary? How would we meet back up with the group? Also, would it be possible for DH & I to follow along behind the group, but not be in the chain? I think the concept of the chain is a great idea, but I know DH would be strong enough to help me make it up the falls safely. I also know that if someone next to me in the chain falls, I too would & that could be disastrous for me. Just exploring our options. :o Thanks again :)

  13. My DH & I have booked the Falls & Tubing tour with Phil Lafayette. I too have arthritis in my back & knees, along with a deterioating spine. I really want to do this though, & don't hesitate to push myself to experience new things. What DH & I want to do most, is sit in the pools under the falls. We're going for the romance factor. ;) Anyway, if I can't climb all of the falls, will we have plenty of opportunities to sit together under the falls. Another question: How many guides are available to escort guests? Would it be possible to offer a guide a sum equivalent to what they would receive from a group, but have them only help the 2 of us? I'm thinking with a guide in front & DH in the back, I should be fine. If so, how much should we offer them? Thanks for your help. :)
