  1. Wow that's crazy! Other lines you get all the food you want for free. They really seem to nickel and dime you on NCL.
  2. Thanks. Celebrity Cruises calls it their "Gratuity Program" and NCL "Service Charges". Too bad they can't all use the same language.
  3. I'm comparing a balcony (select your room) and get the perks vs. sail away which you don't pick the room but no perks. I'd save a lot for the sail away room (giving up room choice) plus save the $20 pp per day for drinks. It really brings the cost down but still haven't decided. I had a free drinks package on my last Celebrity cruise, and they include gratuities there. $20 pp per day is so high. I would never spend $99 on drinks in a day so paying a tip on that amount seems silly.
  4. We are looking at booking without the current promo because not only do you have to pay $20 gratuity per person per day for the drinks package, but the actual cost of the cruise is higher on that option rather than with no "perks". I figure for the difference we can buy a 2-3 drinks a day and still save several hundred dollars. What is the usual cost for a beer, glass of wine or highball? I have seen various pictures online of menus so I have an idea, but I don't know how up to date the prices are. Thanks
  5. I read this https://www.ncl.com/ca/en/faq#tipping which is why I thought they didn't charge it. Unlike most other ships in the cruise industry, there is no required or recommended tipping on our ships for service that is generally rendered to all Guests. While you should not feel obligated to offer a gratuity, all of our staff are encouraged to "go the extra mile," so they are permitted to accept cash gratuities for exceptional or outstanding service if you care to offer them. Also, certain staff positions (e.g., concierge, butler, youth program staff and beverage service) provide service on an individual basis to only some guests and do not benefit from the overall service charge. We encourage those Guests to acknowledge good service from these staff members with appropriate gratuities. Additionally, there is an 20% gratuity and spa service charge added for all spa and salon services, as well as an 20% gratuity and beverage service charge added for all beverage purchases and an 20% gratuity and specialty service charge added to all specialty restaurant dining and entertainment based dining.
  6. Have you booked a Sail Away balcony before? Were you happy with the room you received? We are considering one, but in the past have always selected our room taking into account what is above for noise. What is your option of this option?
  7. Cruise Critic and a few other sites show NCL as having a daily gratuities added to your room, however, it doesn't appear from the website that is correct. Is Norwegian now including tips in the fare so they are not paid in addition (other than those for beverages, specialty dining, etc).?
  8. The best offer Im seeing is the 1 perk already included by Celebrity plus $230 obc. Would love to get gratuities included as well. Any suggestions who offers this?
  9. We are considering select dining for our next cruise. We find the early dining too early and rushed and late too late for us. For those who have tried this option, how did you like it? Did you make a reservation each night or just show up? We are a party of 2, would it be difficult to find a table for 2 using this option?
  10. I've seen it mentioned that you can book directly with Celebrity and transfer your booking to a TA. What are the benefits of doing this vs booking direct with hour TA? Thanks
  11. Thats great news! It was frustrating to not be able to just pay the difference last time.
  12. In the past, if you had the classic bev package you could not just pay the difference to get a drink not covered on that package, but with premium you could. Has thing changed? If I want a $14 wine and only $9 is covered under the classic package, do I pay $5 or $14?
  13. Received an email survey from Royal Carribean regarding ports of calls, however, the cruise I was on that ended 6 weeks ago was Celebrity. I haven't done it as I'm worried it phishing. Is it usual to receive a survey from RC (which is owned by the same company) after a Celebrity cruise?
  14. How about an extra large gratuity for the staff?
  15. Didn't try any food but the craft beers, many included on the premium package, were amazing!
