  1. unlike other cruise lines, Norwegian cruise card color is completely random. the color on the card does not mean anything. I have received cruise cards in various colors. Teal, Blue, Yellow, etc, etc

Not strictly true. The Yellow/Brown cards have the words Welcome to Norwegian Cruise Lines or something very similar. The Teal/Greeny Blue cards have Welcome BACK to Norwegian Cruise Lines on them. I think the Purple cards are for Haven/Suites etc.

  2. The service is very reliable. Just fill in the tag and hang it outside.

Up at 6 through force of habit. Coffee from the machine in our stateroom, shower, breakfast arrives at 7 with more coffee. If the weather is nice we open the balcony door and let in a gentle breeze, if the weather is really nice we move the breakfast onto the balcony. Leisurely have breakfast and get ready, brush teeth and depart for morning trivia.

GOD I MISS MY CRUISES :(

I've only been home a week.

  3. You should put your phone into Airplane mode whilst on board. Once you have done this you can turn WiFi on and log in to your 250 free minutes and also iConcierge. Airplane mode will automatically turn off mobile data thus stopping your phone connecting to the very expensive Maritime network.

With regard to data roaming, I'm not sure how the US carriers operate but I have a plan that allows me to use my data etc. in the US & Canada as well as the EU, at no extra charge BUT I must have data roaming enabled on my phone for it to work. Roaming enables your phone to pick up networks other than your home network. Your carrier will have agreements with carriers abroad to use their signal. So obviously AT&T, Verizon, Sprint etc. don't have signals in the EU but you can pick them up using EE, O2 and various other carriers. So you either need to turn data roaming on or just use WiFi where available. This should be included for in your international plan.

  4. Ok, maybe not “better service” exactly but we get asked if we want another drink and don’t feel bad when asking for things like a glass of water when in crowded places like Howling at the Moon. It is probably not necessary but for a few extra $ I feel like I can acknowledge the people that are worked extremely hard with so many getting the UBP. I know we paid gratuity already so maybe it just makes me feel better:confused::confused:

I have no problem with that. :)

  5. What the?

I'm a bit disappointed in that Doug. I can only apologise on behalf of the fish and chip loving people of England for that aberration, and as for that thing masquerading as a pie, well I'm deeply ashamed. I hope it tasted better than it looked and if you paid more than seven quid for it then you were robbed. ;)

  6. Just noticed mentions of your Instagram. Strangely enough mine is also mostly cats and cocktails from NCL plus a few of the places I've been. Feel free to follow @bawbarmy.

Hopefully my daughter will get to you to snag one of those pins and I may run into you at some point. I'll only be able to follow sporadically, when we are in port, as I'm not signing up for the internet package,

    Saturday can't come soon enough.

  7.

I will have a limited number of both types of pins for sale at the Meet & Greet. It will be one pin per person, first come, first served so I'm not holding those for anyone.

That's fine. Expect to be bowled over by my daughter in the rush to get one.

Have a safe and pleasant journey.

The weather in the UK is just starting to get nice.

  8. I don't know where you heard this rumour but I can tell you, from somebody who was on the same cruise at the end of November last year, that it is completely untrue.

Smoking was limited to the Casino and small section outside on one of the decks, I can't remember if there was a tobacco room or not.

From a European ex-smoker and his smoker spouse.

  9. So having spotted this new section (We still only have 4) we have already run into a minor problem. When entering credit card holder name it only allows you to select from a dropdown menu containing the people on the reservation. One of our party has their booking in their maiden name and their credit card in their married name, so cannot input the card details. Most times you would be allowed to type in the name on the card and then the details. After all it may be a gift from a family member etc.

I'm sure you'll still be able to register your credit card in the old way at the pier but I've asked our PCC for clarification.

  10. Handing the NCL person a credit card at check-in, and having them scan it takes all of about 4 seconds.. I don't see the time saving value here..
In effect you should be able to turn up and your card should already be made up. Just take your photo and associate it with your card. Check your passport to verify your identity. Done.

  11. I'm only 6 days out and I agree with you that it should save having to produce my card at the terminal. It gives the option of paying for everything in dollars or Sterling, so I'm wondering if it is just for people who have booked with ncl.co.uk rather than ncl.com. I'm on the Bliss and sailing from Southampton so again, maybe it's just for certain cruises, passengers. I only noticed this morning and have been looking regularly with no sign of change up to then.

As far as I could see it was only debit/credit card.

Lets hope it saves a bit of time and therefore stress at the port.

  12. I don't care if people think it won't make a difference or if they think NCL are only doing this to save money. I think it's a start, and as such I'll be buying some stainless steel straws to use on cruises. Its not as though I'd use them for anything but cocktails. I already have a set at home and try to remember to take them with me if I'm going to a cocktail bar or somewhere like McDonalds. As it happens McDonalds in the UK now have a policy of only handing out straws on request and are looking at ways of changing to a better environmentally friendly option, but they've always been greedy buggers anyway.

  13. Just went to check MyNCL for our cruise on Saturday and noticed that the On Line check in was only showing 75% I had completed this months ago so was a bit perturbed. Turns out NCL have added a preferred payment section which basically allows you to put your debit/credit card details against your account to save you doing it at the terminal before boarding.

I re-checked my edocs once I'd completed it just in case I needed to reprint them but they have not changed.

This may make check in a little easier but I still have that little niggle in the back of my head that tells me I'll still have to do it at the terminal.

I didn't bother searching the forum because I'm a bit lazy so this may already have been mentioned.

For those on the Bliss next Saturday see you there.
