  1. Last year we did Western on Carnival, and have Eastern coming up on the Epic in a few weeks. I was not a fan of Montego Bay at all, but really liked Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

Grand Cayman was clean, the people very polite and 7 Mile Beach was beautiful. Mr. Sancho's in Cozumel was a fantastic way to spend a day, and I hope to go back in 2018.

No matter where you go, just remember...it's way better than being stuck at work, so it will be a great time.

  2. A friend and I are looking at both ships for Feb of 2018. Itineraries are very similar, from NOLA and Tampa. Both ships appear similar in size, and dry dock happened last year or is scheduled in the very near future. After looking at reviews here I see that the Pearl's dining is rated lower than the Dawn, but can't see any other significant differences.

We're looking for a ship with friendly staff, service with a smile, good food (specialty dining isn't high on our list), plenty of activities such as comedy shows and karaoke.

Would very much appreciate opinions, both good and bad. And that also includes experiences with airplane travel and embarkation at NOLA and Tampa. Thanks all!!

  3. I just made reservations for chairs at Myett's for a group in February. Chair rental is $5/person. Taxi ride is $8 from port and that's set by the government. Kimmy at Myett's was great to deal with, and if you are worried about chair availability I'd suggest emailing them and making arrangements ahead of your visit.

  4. Yes we did make it to Sapphire and did enjoy the time we spent there. Wonderful beach. We took a cab over to Blackbeard's castle after the beach and spent over an hour there and then headed back to the ship. Nice relaxing day. thanks for all the info you gave me. I recommend Sapphire to all that go to St Thomas.

We're heading to Sapphire on 3/1. It's a short day in port for us, from 7a-2p. Were you able to get chair rentals, and did you have a favorite spot?

  5. Yes, it is a fairly good way to keep in touch with each other whilst onboard. It can be a bit unreliable at times, although generally it seems to work quite well though.

You have to pay a fixed charge (about $10 per user) for it, so the total cost would be quite high, but negligible compared to the Internet charges.

One issue is that people have to ensure that the app is running in the background for it to work, and that they are on the ships wifi. If people aren't that tech savvy then you may find that they don't notice messages etc.

Thank you! That's just the type of info I was looking for.

  6. Looking for feedback on this app. I'm cruising as part of a group of 24 and thinking this might be the easiest way to meet and organize while on board since most of us aren't interested in paying the sizable wi-fi fees.

    Any info would be appreciated.

  7. We cruised with NCL exclusively up until a few years ago and tried out Carnival. We have had several cruises with Carnival and rotating back and forth with NCL. We have been on the Epic twice now (just got off her late November) and LOVE the Epic. However, she is not for everyone and very unique compared to all of the other ships in the fleet. She is definitely different.

HERE is my review with TONS of pictures if you are interested in having a look. :)

Thanks for those links in your post. We'll be on Epic in February and after doing some research it looks like Sapphire Beach is our destination in St. Thomas. I hope it's still as nice as when you visited.

  8. Would any of you who use a TA be willing to share their name? I've cruised with a group twice now, and we haven't had great luck with the TA's. They were recommended by folks who had used them before, but never for cruises. More often than not we had to chase them to get questions answered, and there were definitely no financial benefits. We were thinking of booking directly with NCL next year but after reading this post, now I'm really confused.

  9. My apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered before but I couldn't find any info when googling.

Our TA assures me that the UBP is on the contract from NCL that she has received for our group. However when I log in to view my reservation it doesn't appear on the account and I'm able to add it to my cart.

Before I get her on the phone again, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? It's our first cruise with NCL so not familiar with their process and "quirks".

    Thanks

  10. Looking at our itinerary for the Feb 25 sailing of the Epic and we are only in port on St. Thomas until 2 pm. The same webpage also states that passengers must be back on the ship two hours prior to departure time. This is our first time on NCL so I'm wondering if they hold passengers' feet to the fire on that two hour window or if you can board closer to depart time? Getting back on board by noon is kind of a bummer.

Tried Googling this but didn't find anything. May have not asked the question correctly.

    Thanks!!

  11. The TA offered OBC, on board perks and to price match any drops in prices. She's been in business many years and have had several positive recommendations for her from customers who have done business with her for 20+ years.

She's done a good job with getting us ground transport and a block of hotel rooms booked at a discount, but the dealings with NCL are puzzling.

  12. Hi all, I'm new to NCL and working with a TA to plan a group on the Epic for 2/2017. Wondering if others have had a similar experience with NCL. Scenario below:

Co-planner and I started bookings under the offers available in March. Prices quoted, deposits started rolling in. We were told by our TA that she would alert us if the fares were lowered as we would be eligible. Bookings start rolling in but now, three months later, we have a question about a cabin for three.

Called the TA, who called NCL and was told yesterday that there are no 3 person inside cabins available for that cruise. We then checked the NCL website last night and have found that not only have prices for that cruise in most cabin types been lowered, they also have inside cabins available that will accomodate up to 4 people. This is the second time we've had to do this with differing info being provided to the TA via verbal customer service and what is stated on the website.

We provided screen shots for the TA, but I'm sure she hasn't even seen it yet. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

  13. People who miss the ship are usually having such a good time they lose track of time. Even on some ship excursions you will get left behind if you are not at the designated departure point in a timely manner.

The taxi drivers know all the ship schedules and they sweep the popular areas giving notice that it's time to start heading back to the ship. They can't make people leave, however.

The closest beaches to the cruise docks are Emerald Beach and Morningstar. Both have resorts with all amenities. You can have a nice beach day if you get off the ship early.

Thank you. I'll look into those. It's a shame we're leaving so darn early.

  14. Have you considered an excursion offered through the ship. At least you'll know, it would get you back on time.

    LuLu

Thanks for that idea. Right now they're not displaying excursions that far out but hopefully they'll offer similar ones to what is available now because one of those would work. Haven't done an excursion through the ship before but there's a first time for everything! :D
