  1. We are fairly new to cruising. If you want to book a cruise with Royal Caribean do most people book direct with Royal Caribean or TA. Direct with Royal Caribean is giving me a better price but I am not sure if your money is protected as they are in the USA,  like it is with ABTA and ATOL if you book with a TA in the UK

  2. Sounds like this is going to be quite difficult. I am hoping the private tour, I've been looking at Rome in Limo will get me very close to the main sights in the morning, I can manage a five or ten minute walk around with a sit down in the car in between but not too many lots of walking we may have to do some things as a drive by if that's possible. In the afternoon I am hoping I can use my mobility scooter in the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peters not sure how all this will work out.

  3. We are doing our first Med Cruise in 2018. We are looking at doing a private tour of Rome from the ship. I have reduced mobility and use a scooter for any distance. I am interested to hear how people have found visiting Rome with a mobility scooter as it does not sound like it's very easy.

  4. Does anyone have pictures of the inside of the disabled carriage and lifts for the White Pass train trip. Need to see if I can transfer from my mobility scooter to a seat or if I will need to stay on it which is not that comfortable for a three hour round trip. Can't use a wheelchair as my husband is not fit enough to push it.

  5. I am attempting to decide which is the best train trip for us. We are looking at the round trip train from our cruise ship dock but are wondering if we should do the one way trip and coach back or the longer trip to Bennett.

My mobility is not good, I can get on and off a coach okay, but if there is no real advantage to doing train up and bus back I could decide not to do that, but I don't want to miss out on something important. If anyone could advise me on that it would be very helpful.

Also as regards the longer trip to Bennett I do tire after about a 4 hours trip due to health problems but I would push myself to do the longer trip if you got to see a lot more or is the scenery very much the same as you would see on the round trip just more

  6. Thanks for all the info. We are on the Nieuw Amsterdam, my mobility scooter does fold up and wheel so am hoping I can manage a tender if I have to. I can walk a bit it's just any distance I can't do at all. Half a mile would be impossible and then walking to look around as well so am hoping to be able to use my scooter. What sort of size are the towns to look around are they say a 15 minute look around or are they much bigger. Just wondering if a town maybe bus tour to look around would be needed.

We have booked some Excursions which don't involve walking to much, we have booked small boat Tracey Arm trip one way off the ship and are trying to decide which train trip in Skagway to do. We do have Glacier Bay as well so there is a lot I can still do.

I really must see if I can master google maps as I believe you can look around places on that. This is only our second ever cruise so we are still very new to this.

  7. We are cruising next year with port stops at Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. My mobility is poor and I do use a mobility scooter, how far is it from where the ships dock into the town and how accessible is it for scooters. Just trying to work out if I need to book some sort of tour around the towns, if I would need to use a taxi to look around or if it's possible to manage with my scooter from the ship.

  8. Thank you mapleleaves for the info on that trip report what brilliant photos. I am so glad we have booked the Tracey Arm trip now it looks wonderful just hope we can get good weather. Thank you for the info on the Photo point trail in case we do go to Mendenhall.

Thank you new cruiser for the info on Steep Creek probably being accessible, how amazing you got to see the bear cubs.

  9. Yes our ship departs at 10pm. Good idea to see how we feel, I thought we would have to book something up. My mobility is not good for hiking so would only be able to view from the Visitor Centre not sure how good that view would be from there. I will have my mobility scooter on the ship with me but not sure if it would be suitable to use there unless the trails are paved. Thanks for that link I will look into it more.

  10. We are cruising a round trip Vancouver on Nieuw Amsterdam which has the Excursion to Tracey Arm from the cruise ship and then back to Juneau. This trip gets us back to Juneau mid afternoon just hoping for some advice about whether we should still try to visit Mendenhall Glacier after or if it very similar. We will probably be tired after the Tracey Arm trip but I don't want to miss anything important. It's so hard to choose these trips as you only have the one day. I wanted to do a whale watching trip as well but am hoping we will see some on the way back from Tracey Arm.

  11. Thanks I will have a look at them. It sounds a much better idea than the large coach. How did you find the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel that does look like a lot of walking I wonder if I could be dropped off and use my scooter for that bit. I'll email Rudy and ask their advice.

  12. We are new to cruising having only done the one cruise so far. We are looking at booking a Mediterranean Cruise. Has anybody found it is possible to do a tour of Rome with limited ability to walk any distances. I do have a mobility scooter which I will be taking. I am not sure if I should book a tour with the cruise ship but may find it is too much walking or try to book a shared private tour.

  13. Wendychloecruiser. That's exactly why I felt bad about booking an accessible cabin because some people cannot travel if they don't have an accessible cabin. I only need my scooter for long distances. But I got very concerned looking on You Tube at the cabins there would not be room but it sounds like you have found it fine. What a lovely name for her scooter I must name mine.

  14. Thanks for the replies. We have booked a cabin with the couch nearest the door in the hope this will make it a little easier.

TSC That's amazing the inside cabins are larger that's a really good tip to know and an extension cable good idea.

Adammara. Can't get that link to work

Awhfy & kmangel thanks for the information I should really have booked a disabled cabin but I felt I should leave it for somebody else who could not manage without it as there are so few of them but I am thinking now that is a mistake.

  15. We are sailing on the Celebrity Eclipse to Baltics next year. This is only our second cruise ever and our first with a Mobility Scooter. How have people found a standard balcony cabin is with a mobility scooter. Mine is a Pride Go Go Traveller Plus. Is there somewhere it can be put in the cabin in a corner it can be left in so you are not tripping over it all the time. I don't need to use it in the cabin I just need it if walking any distances. Thanks

  16. Thanks for the information I had a feeling I could not get it past the bed. I can change to another cabin with bed by the balcony but I had a problem as well with that. The bed is not facing the way we are travelling I do get motion sickness very easily and do find I need to sleep the way I am travelling. Do you happen to know if you can move the bed across to the other wall so you are facing the way of travelling. I know the lights over the bed would not be there but I could live with that. I know some people say you can't feel the way it's travelling but I can unfortunately.

  17. We have only cruised once before, and this is our first time with a mobility scooter and our first time on a Celebrity ship. Our balcony cabin has a bed nearest to the bathroom and I am concerned looking at video's that I will not be able to get my scooter past the end of the bed and the fitted furniture starting on the opposite wall into the larger area with the settee to be able to turn and park up my scooter. It does not look like there is anywhere to park it up before you get to the bed. I have a 4 wheel Pride Go Go Traveller Plus it's 21.25 inches wide. Anybody have experience of this who can advise me. I didn't want to take up an accessible cabin from somebody who has more need of it.

  18. Can anyone tell me which mobile phone networks on PAYG not a contract work while you are at sea. I have checked with my network which is 02 they don't work at sea. We need to keep contact back home as we have a family member not very well. We hopefully just need to be able to text to find out how they are. I know we could wait till in the ports but I would rather be in contact.

  19. Use of internet on-board, I see in the catalogue that the costs are Internet 250minutes at £62.50 and Internet 100 minutes at £35 or 50p per minute. Are other packages available when you get on the ship. I don't want as much as 100 minutes but the other option at 50p minute is very high.

  20. With Norovirus in mind which Hand Gels have people taken with them, in the hope of not picking it up. It seems the alcohol based ones don't work for norovirus. Not sure which one P & O actually uses. I realize soap and water is the best for this, but would like an additional line of defence.

  21. I didn't realise there was a new terminal when I posted the original question about distance to walk onto the ship and queuing. That's a bit concerning there was nowhere to sit in the old one and a lot a queuing. Will definitely to good to hear from someone traveling through, all about it. I need to know how far roughly the walk is from dropping luggage onto the ship, and also the queuing and somewhere to sit if you do have to wait. I don't want to bother with assisted boarding if its only a short distance.
