    Update……

Looks like they posted a refund for all of us of 50% of the charge for the class.  This wasn’t asked for or even expected, to be honest.

Hopefully they’ll change the description in the future.

Have to give them kudos on how it was handled now.

It seems like they know that what they delivered is not what they advertised. Perhaps it was first-day issues that will get resolved in the future. I had been looking at this activity as well as the mixology class for my sea day on Reflection in July. Looking forward to see what Kteacher has to say about that class in her thread.

They might have given you a days grace but maybe not.  Years ago friends were going to cruise with us.  They did not make final payment and our CVP contacted them numerous times  and even reached out to us. The reservation was canceled after 3 or 4 days. Not sure they would be this lenient today, depends on the number of available cabins I guess.

The fine print said the payment was due at 5PM Eastern, so technically I was 6 hours late! Glad nothing was canceled.

  3. Sounds like anti-migrant scaremongering to me. Has there ever been even a single instance of a cruise ship being turned away from the port of Dover because of migrant boats?

We're booked in early May. There are not any sea days on our cruise (Nassau and Coco Cay are the only ports), so I'm wondering... are they going to have The Porch and Lawn Club Grill closed for lunch both port days ? I really enjoy lunches there, but on longer sailings, I know that they're only open on sea days.

The dailies from a recent Reflection sailing show The Porch being open for lunch on port days.

  5. The November 5, 2018 episode of Rick Steves' Europe is called "Travel Skills: Cruising." It follows Rick on a cruise from Barcelona to Athens. The cruise line and ship are not named on the show, but it is quite obviously Celebrity Reflection. Rick gives a very even-handed review of the cruise experience and I think Celebrity comes off looking pretty good.

Looks like the cruise was taken in the fall of 2017. Rick talks more about it on his blog here: https://blog.ricksteves.com/blog/category/mediterranean-cruising/. He states that it was planned to be a one-hour special that would air in January 2019, but it appears that it was later changed to a regular half-hour episode that aired in November 2018.

  6. Hello all - it's been a while since we've sailed on an "M" class ship, our past three cruises were on Solstice, Reflection & Equinox. We are sailing on the Summit in October and I have just a few questions:

    1) any recent feedback on Luminae - specifically on the Summit?

    2) Do they still over the "Taste of Film" food/movie pairings on the rooftop terrace?

Any other recent reviews, etc - would be much appreciated!

Can't speak to 1, but when I sailed on Summit about a month ago, they offered Taste of Film at least once on our 11-night sailing (the movie was Jon Favreau's Chef). Can't tell you how it was as I did not partake.

  7. Some help please, so we are in the midst of getting our clothestogether and as it has been several years since my wife and I have cruised andknow things have changed a bit on the ships. Also, we have never cruised in AquaClass so have never experienced the Blu restaurant before. So we are not reallysure what to expect there as well.

I have always taken a suit for formal Night (aka EveningChic now) and I hear that Blu doesn’t really even have that, it is Smart Casualattire for all 7 nights is that correct? We don’t mind dressing up a bit but alsodon’t want to bring a lot of unnecessary clothes if they are unneeded. Just wantto fit in if you know what I mean.

Should I take a suit, sports coat or just a nice shirt?

On my recent cruise on Summit, I wore a suit on chic evenings because I wanted to, and I had dinner in Blu. I didn't feel out of place, and I'm sure neither did those men who were not wearing suits.

  8. Another Captain known by his first name is Captain Alex. He alternated with Captain Kate on the Summit. I have sailed with both of them and they are both great. Captain Alex has the cutest daughter. She was about 2 years old when I sailed with him. He was dancing with her up in Revelstions at the Captains Club gathering.

On my recent Summit cruise I believe I heard crew members calling Captain Ioannis Kasimatis "Captain Ioannis." He seemed like a good guy.

  9. I did some searching and it appears that "Iconic Mediterranean" is what Viking calls one of their itineraries, but it doesn't appear to be in use by Celebrity. What is the departure date of the Constellation cruise you are looking at?

Sorry, I now see that you said you sail on August 30.

  10. New to cruising and find planning confusing. Would like some feedback from anyone who has taken the Iconic Mediterranean Trip. Cabin type? Overall experience? Feedback about the ship?

Any other helpful tips would be appreciated

  11. I've only seen limoncello in Tuscan Grille, nowhere else on board. It should be available in Tuscan on any ship. There it is standard to always offer it after dinner. It's pretty good.

  12. Only once did we have a sommelier who had no clue how to pair food/wine (we're not sure he was really a sommelier).

I do think Celebrity somewhat abuses that term. They should just call them wine servers.

  13. A funny thing happened on the last day of this cruise while we were in Newport. At the appointed time, the anchor was raised and engines started, and the ship prepared to set sail back to Bayonne. Then the engines were stopped, the anchor was dropped and one of the ship's tender boats was dispatched back to Newport. There was also a Coast Guard boat, with a very large gun in front, hanging around the ship while this was going on. About 30-40 minutes later, the tender boat returned and we were on our way. Does anyone know what happened there? I assumed that someone missed the last tender, and was very fortunate that a boat went back to pick them up. But someone else suggested that maybe someone had come aboard who was not supposed to be on board, and was escorted back to shore, and that's why the Coast Guard was involved. Who knows?
