The bottom line is, it is your vacation, be comfortable. I have been on almost 30 cruises on most of the major lines and only dressed up 2 times ever. I have found if you wear a nice pair of pants and a button up shirt or even a polo shirt, you will be just fine. You might be questioned once or twice (usually by other passengers, not by cruise staff) but I just tell them thanks for their concern but I would rather enjoy my vacation than worry about others opinions. They usually get the point. Now I wouldn't walk around in a t shirt and shorts photo bombing the formal pics, but you will fine without the monkey suit, even on princess. :D

We take a cruise every year that coincides with super bowl. Carnival does it the best out of the major cruise lines we have been on. RC and princess were not enjoyable at all. They showed the game everywhere but that was about it. Really missing a lot of opportunity to generate revenue for their bottom lines.

But Carnival does it right, lots of decorations, lots of great game day food, tons of drink specials. They even had party favors and were taking photos throughout the party. But being a gambler, I loved the fact that were taking prop bets through the casino as well as offering the super bowl pool squares game.

Needless to say we are booked on the Valor leaving the Saturday before super bowl. :)
