You can ask your steward for a pitcher of ice water.  Much cheaper.

I only saw my steward once.  He was nice but I couldn't get him to do anything for me.  I would call and call and call and no answer.  There was no way for me to get them to bring me water.  Now I got carafes of water all day in the vibe beach club.

Sadly, the service in the regular rooms has decreased.  Its not bad, it's just not as good as it used to be.

  2. We went back and forth about this same question for our recent breakaway sailing.  We decided to prepay for 12- 1L boxes of water.  We did it to have cold water in the room.  We didn't need more than 12.  When we were on deck during the day it was easy to get water.  We did bring a couple of stainless water bottles to take with us when we got off in port.

    Did we have to? No.

Was it worth it?  I thought so.  We drink a lot of water.  It was nice to have a cold box to drink at the end of the day or first thing in the morning.

    Anyone else?

Interested to see how it goes next week. Looks like the cruise is completely sold out. 😬

We are sailing on 3/10 too.  Our family of 4 (2 adults 2 teens) and friends (2 adults to 2 teens).  Lots of families with kids on this sailing.  We have done a similar itinerary on this ship from NOLA before, over a holiday.  So we expect it to be really busy.

Not sure why you will have to tender? How many ships in port?

I have been to Turquoise Bay, a long time ago. It has since been renovated and updated, taken over by one of the hotel chains (Mayan Princess?). There are different package levels for service. The last review I read was very good and I wouldn’t hesitate to try it again if the price was right. Transport through the cruise line is always relatively safe and  convenient, if a little restrictive. It is a little further than LFK.

There are several reasons why I have never been to LFK so cannot compare.

We are on NCL and there are three ships at coxen hole that day.  We could get lucky and be first in but we are not scheduled to be first.  Thanks for sharing your experience.

  5. We have a group of eight total (4 adults, 4 teens).  Only 2 adults in our tour have been to Roatan in the past, and we went to LFK.  In march we will be in Roatan and want to do a beach day.  The cruise line offers excursions that are all inclusive to Turquoise Bay.  We know we can do LFK on our own but its about the same price and isn't all inclusive.

I would love to hear opinions on either one.  Part of me is tempted to go with Turquoise Bay since its offered from the cruiseline and we will have to tender.

  6. Its been more than a year since our last NCL cruise (we have spent the last year visiting Disney World over and over again).  Its time to head back to sea!  We have a cruise booked in 2020 on the Escape.  There used to be a list of drinks to try on NCL somewhere on this message board.  I have searched and searched and can't find it.  So can you guys help me by suggested some of the must trys.  I know for sure the rebellious fish.  Our last NCL was on the Breakaway.  We will have the premium beverage package (possibly upgrading, not sure if it worth it or not).

    I appreciate all suggestions.

  7.

Which menu should expect to be right? There is a large difference, imo, between the top two and the bliss menu. The Bliss menu doesn't look as appealing as the other two. I am on the BA in novemeber. can you help me understand? :o

  8. I will be on a 4-night cruise on the Sky with Open Bar. I am looking for recommendations to get sample some great drinks. I don't drink beer at all. However, I enjoy wine and will also sample mixed drinks (no shots or other straight alcohol).

So here is my question- for those of you who may know the alcohol options included on Sky:

When ordering mojitos or margaritas, should I specify a brand of liquor to get the best quality/taste? Perhaps my inexperienced palate will not be able to tell the difference between the "cheap" stuff and the better stuff...

Any other specialty drinks with specified alcohol that you love on the Sky Open Bar menu? Way back in college, I used to enjoy Long Island Iced Tea. I assume the bartenders will make common drinks, even if they are not on the menu?

    I appreciate any recommendations!

Ask them to make the drinks of the day fresh. They will do it. Or go to the bar forward on deck above the pool. They typically don't have a big vat of premade drink of the day.

for me the drink i always get first on any ncl ship is a rebellious fish. Its a ncl drink for me. It is sweet so I only get one. I drink mostly vodka drinks so I always ask them to make with Titos.

Yes the will make most anything. remember to bring some cash to tip the servers and bartenders. They really do a good job and deserve it.

If you drink wine ask at dinner what they have, you don't have to settle for the red or white only option. They have several different wine available.

The sky is great short get away, we went three time last year. Your open bar is also available on GSC but they have less to choose from. they ran out of bourbon early in the day last time we were there.

  9. This December will be our first DCL cruise. We have been told that you can get the mickey bar either as a room service item or off the kids dessert menu. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

My husband loves the mickey bars. its the thing he is most excited about.

  10. Did anyone do the British Colonial Hilton?

I did the colonial hilton last october. It was okay. The food and drink credit got us each a sandwich, a beer, and a water. ITs small and the ships are right there. We liked it because it was super close, private, and easy. But wouldn't take my kids unless it was a short day.

  11. Hello,

Looking for current reviews on the Norwegian Sky- scheduled to go September and January.

    Was internet available?

How was the food selection? We just sailed on the Escape in June and the food options were great.

    How is the entertainment?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

We have been on the sky three times since last fall. We absolutely love her. When we saw that she was doing the cuba trips we knew we had to be on one of the first cruises there (went may 8th). We like the size of the ship, the ease of the open bar. We have not gone to any of the shows. We just don't care about them. We will do the activities but not the stage shows. The cruise director just changed (We loved Tom who is going the Spirit this fall) no idea who it is now. The staff on the sky was great all three times. Can't complain about any staff.

We don't like the buffet, its doesn't seem to ever change. So we eat at the MDR and the food is always good. We really wish that the sky had a moderno.

We just booked our first "big ship" cruise on the Escape for June 2018. We are taking that cruise for the ship instead of the itinerary.

We didn't get the internet but met several people who did. They said it was fine. We prefer to turn our phones off completely till we dock.

  12. Ok. Let's start over. Or maybe I should start a new post. I am looking for the free brands of alcohol. And which brand there is a charge for and which brands are no charge. I.e. Smirnoff, Sky. Stoli. Jack Daniels. Beefeater. Bombay. Not kinds of mixed drinks

I don't have a copy of the list from when we were on in May but I can tell you that Jack in not included anymore. The bourbon/whiskeys available has decreased. I drank Tito's vodka and it suited me just fine. There is a Johnny Walker that is included but I can't remember which one. There are plenty of liquors that are included.

The way I describe the Sky's open bar is like an open bar at a wedding. They have plenty to choose from but its not as extensive as you would have at restaurant.

We went on the sky three times in 7 months and loved it all three times.

  13. I am booked on the Sun May 7 to Havana. I understand that I cannot get off the ship unless I'm on a ship's excursion (I'm a US citizen). Is that correct?

I don't see any excursions online now. Can someone please tell me how far in advance of sailing NCL usually posts their shore excursions for booking?

Has anyone been to Cuba on NCL already? Which excursions would you recommend?

We went this past May (2nd Sky cruise to Havana). We booked two excursions through ncl and one on our own. If I could do it again I would only go through private. They didn't post ours until about 2 weeks before final payment. But i think they were still trying to get them all figured out. We used locally sourced tours and they were amazing. You should do the cabaret at the Hotel DNationale too but buy the tickets on your own. The ship excursion had us there 2 hours before the show started and crammed into a small space waiting. It would have been better if we just took a cab from the port.

Restrictions on what to do in Cuba are US restrictions not Cuban. Going through their customs was easy and exchanging money was quick. We got off and on the street in less than 30m.

You'll love it. Make sure you grab a cortado (coffee).
