  1. I will call this cruise my belated birthday celebration. I was supposed to have sailed in September for my birthday but that Bi*#h Irma had other plans. I found out last week my travel insurance was going to give me a refund for that cruise and I wouldn't have to have a future cruise credit and found a great last minute deal on this one.

  2. NCL does a great job with solo cruisers. They have nightly gatherings for solo travelers in the studio lounge and there is a solo host. Even though you are not in a studio cabin you will be able to attend. I would suggest going to the first one and you will meet people. The solo host will see who wants to go to dinner and shows and will make reservations for the group. I went on my first cruise in 2015 solo on the Getaway. I could not have asked for a better first cruise. I made friends with several people from the roll call and we had an informal meet and greet the first day of the cruise after the muster drill. Cruising solo allows you to do what you want when you want. I am going on my 9th cruise in 10days. This will be my 7th time going solo.

  3. Loved the Vista this past March.

Breakfast tip: the lines on Lido seemed worse on Vista than any other Ship I have experienced. After fighting the crowds on day 1, we found the breakfast offered on the Ocean Plaza deck (behind the specialty coffee bar) offered most everything offered on Lido. The exception seemed to be no omelets. There was never a line and always plenty of seating.

Although, I love my omelets, I loved the line free area this provided. We are not big on going to dining room for breakfast and this option was fantastic.

I hope this proves popular and is added to other ships.

This is a great tip. I am sailing on the Vista in two weeks. What deck is the Ocean Plaza on?

  4. I went on my first cruise for my 50th birthday in 2015 and went solo. I will be 52 in September and will be sailing solo again to celebrate. I could not have had a better first cruise. I did meet a lot of people through my roll call. I have been on eight cruises and five of them have been solo. I have sailed solo on NCL, Royal and Carnival. I think NCL has the best activities and gatherings for solo cruisers, some of their ships have studio cabins so you don't have to pay the double supplement when you're in a cabin by yourself. Royal does give you double points when you go solo. When you sail solo you can do what you want when you want. I discovered cruising later in life and now I am addicted. I would not let not having anyone to go with stop you from cruising.

  5. Just read this whole thread. Great review! I am sailing the same itinerary Dec 10th. This will be my first time repeating a ship. I sailed on Freedom in June with a big group. I loved the ship. This time I am going solo and all the ports are new to me. I need to start booking some excursions.

Glad to hear about the new mesh type loungers. How did the slot pull go with that many participants? Did you hit a jackpot to pay for another cruise?
