I'm going on Epic in December and we have the Free UBP so may have to try this as we have 4 sea days! :)

Thanks for your help Annie, I've spoken to my husband and we've decided to purchase some gift certificates before we go and register a debit card that we don't use. As you say we don't intend to spend a lot on board, no more than £300 anyway! (I might buy a souvenir magnet from the shop and visit the Ice Bar but everything else is paid up) - Cant wait now just 83 days to go!! :):)

Any unspent OBC you have purchased should be refunded.

 

BTW I never use a debit card on board a cruise ship as a precaution against any accounting mishap.

On the last 2 cruises we've done with RCI & Princess we used a debit card as we've never had a credit card.

I'm such a worrier, I might just have to bite the bullet and take a CC out and pay it off as soon as we get back.

If I did buy the on board credit in advance and I get 300$ but only spent 200$ would they credit me the difference at the end of the cruise in cash, or would we loose it?

I've decided to use a debit card from an account I don't use often. We now have the UBP and will pay the gratuities up front. I've booked dinner, circus and Spa and paid that all up front, will also be taking dollars for the casino so I don't intend to spend to much more on board.

But I will have a look at the pre-paid onboard credit or gift cards.

7 days... It only lets me put one in as well it wont let me buy for both of us at the same time :rolleyes:. I assumed unlimited just meant unlimited for the day as I have to choose the day in the drop down

Sounds like the weekly ones have sold out now then and they only have limited day ones. They sold out on my cruise already for weekly passes and I don't go for another 87 days.

When I look on MYNCL for EPIC all I see is its available for the day for £76 does that sound right or am I reading it wrong

On mine it said unlimited and was £103 for 10 nights so it does sound like a lot! Does it go down when you put it in the basket? And how long until you sail?

I got up at 6am uk time to book mine, when I checked at 11am they we're all gone. Being a winter cruise I was expecting them to be snapped up and didn't want to leave until we boarded x

Well we are on day 99 to the cruise and thermal passes are showing up on our cruise, but when you go in it shows as fully booked, so gutted as was going to book one for me :-(

We are on the epic 19/12 so I can't believe that they sell out do fast! Are there ever any cancellations ?

It did the same to me but they don't go on sale until the 90th day! They were showing on my account from day 99 @ £159 but when I booked on the 90th day I got them at £103 :) just make sure you log on straight away on the 90th day as they sell out fast!! At the moment I think there just on sale for Haven passengers.

That wouldn't make a difference. The UBP on every ship works exactly the same once you're on board, regardless of whether the person purchased it or received it as any kind of promo. They all always work the same on the ship.

Ok thanks, sorry wasn't sure as I haven't sailed with NCL before.

I thought that maybe if you paid for it they would charge you the 18% & 10% on the UBP Price. But if you got it free they would charge you the 10% on each drink you ordered? Guess I just confused myself :confused: :)

Came off the Epic on 16th August sailing from Barcelona with the UBP and didn't pay anything extra for drinks.

I understand that you will be charged port taxes while in port in Barcelona but once you leave port are the taxes still applied to drinks as I'm doing med in April to Italy France Spain

 

From my understanding it's only if you visit an non EU country charges get dropped?

 

Anyone been on the epic with ubp were you charge for every drink ?

I was hoping to find out the same! We have the free UBP and I've ready online the 18% gratuities is included but you have to pay 10% VAT on drinks if you sail from Barcelona or Rome.

If anyone has recently sailed and has info it would be good :)

How far out can you book the Spa pass on the Epic ( 10nt in Jan )

Its 90 days before, I got up at 6am UK to secure mine though as I was warned that they sell out quickly! They were all gone by 11am when I looked again.

I also only paid £103 instead of the £159 advertised for 10 nights in December.

Yay got our Spa Passes, got up at 6am this morning - although they were showing all week at £159 + 18% when I went to checkout I only paid £103pp so I'm very happy!! :D

Also booked for the circus show, 2 other shows and the Brazilian Restaurant :) Can't wait now, only 90 days to go. :)

Hi, just wondering how the $129 price came about for one week thermal spa pass? The best price I see for the Breakaway is $179 for one week if booked ahead of time. Is this a special only on the Epic?

Sorry it's £159pp for 10 nights! So a little better but still a lot. I just hope it's not crowded! Being that it's winter I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and book them when it's released.

Its approx. $274 (£179pp) on Epic for 10 nights (4 sea days) when I go in December. Do you think spending $548 on the Spa is worth it?:confused:

They seem to be following CST so you most likely would need to log in at 6 am :)

You have to book them as soon as possible though because they sell out quick. I'm in Europe and bought the pass at 8.30 am which is 12.30 CST. A couple of hours later they were sold out.

If I log in at midnight (uk) on the 90day and see what happens :)

Since the Epic has sea days on both Christmas and New Years we are hoping that the slides will be open. We want to get in our Holiday Polar Plunges! :eek:

It will let you book it at 90 days out.

Use cash instead of a DEBIT card.....same money from your account, but no "holds" on cash!

 

If you have a credit card, give that to them, then later in the week, switch over to cash, if you don't want to put anything on your card....nothing is actually CHARGED to your credit card until the cruise is over...so you can pay off the account in cash.

Thanks, I've decided to take 950$ traveller cheque as I don't own a credit card and don't want to carry so much cash on me :)

We were on the Jade last December doing the Eastern Med - we had perfect weather the entire time (bright but jackets required for warmth). Absolutely no rain at all.

 

We only noticed the movement of the sea on one day - the rest of the time we could have been sailing across a lake. But this was because we'd managed to luck out and avoid any bad weather.

 

The Christmas stuff hard started going up before we go onboard and while we were there they started putting out these huge (fake) gingerbread houses.

I've managed to persuade the hubby to get us Spa Passes so we can lounge on the heated loungers and read our books instead as I want expecting to be anywhere near the outside pools in December, BBBbrrrrrr :)
