We are going on the cruise June 18. I would be interested in hearing about your neighbors cruise too. We have gotten our own air and are flying first to Vienna and then onto Amsterdam. On the return we are Going to Zurich and the home.

Also we will be posting during our trip.

We went with Viking. They stopped at Kinderdijk. We just got off the boat and walked across the road and the Windmills were all there. At the last windmill you could go into it to see the inside. There it was not really a guided tour but something you did on your own.

We are traveling on Uniworld. Since we have booked, we have seen a price drop.

We booked with AA but called Uniworld direct and they gave us a discount on our booking We just had to call AA and have Uniworld issue it.

Thank you for the information. It sounds like you had a nice time in Switzerland. We are thinking it would be best to get to Zurich. We do not want to take a car. Therefore we would take tours out of Zurich. Thinking Zurich would be a better city to tour from instead of Basel

We are doing this itinerary in June with Uniworld. We are flying Chicago to Vienna for 3 nights , on to Amsterdam on the 15th. Riverboat on the 18th. We want to extend the Switzerland part. We get off the boat in Basel but thinking about thinking about staying in Zurich. How did you spend your 4 days in Switzerland?

What is the difference between the Danube and Main deck? On the picture it looks almost like the same level. Cabins would be category 2 and 3 . What kind of windows do they have?

Happy to hear you enjoyed the cruise. Have you been on other lines besides Uniworld? We have been on AMA twice and Viking once. How long were the excursions? Half a day or all day?

Also we are not the most active and do the gentle walkers. Did you raft? Did you spend extra time in Switzerland? We spent extra time in Amsterdam when we did the Tulips and Windmills.

So this time we would want to see more of Switzerland.

We were on the AMA this summer. When we got on the boat a member of the crew was walking around talking about Chefs table and we made a reservation. Also you should tell your travel about your anniversary.

We did Paris and Normandy, June 15th on AMA.

On the day you go to Omaha Beach, you will be given a box lunch on bus. Eat it on the bus to save time.

Wreath ceremony at the cemetery was very nice.

If you are a Gentle Walker, AMA does do a nice job. At certain stops they provided us with taxis. In Rouen, we paid for our own taxi to meet up with the group at the Synagogue for the Jewish tour.

It's always exciting when the day arrives for an long-anticipated adventure, and since this is our first river cruise it's very exciting!

 

 

 

En route to Atlanta for our flight to Prague. Four days in Prague as we added on 2 (independently) to those included in the Europe's Rivers and Castles itinerary. We'll board the AmaWaterways AmaDante next Thursday, June 15.

 

 

 

I'll try to check in periodically as we travel if anyone has questions.

Last year, when we did Tulips and Windmills with Viking and took their air. We did get good direct flights from Chicago. Flights could depend upon where you live. Also taking their air gives you the transfers from airport to the boat. That is worth something.

Travel agents and the cruise lines themselves may be offering good deals. Every other day we get mailings from Viking. They are trying to fill the ships.
