  1. I'll have to check my bill, but I would definitely argue over $12.

RCI has no control over the pending charges. The length of time depends on your credit card provider.

Many pending charges drop off within a week as long as when your card company calls out to the originator of the charge and they are not responded to as valid. I have seen Casino room charge holds for a comp room as much as $100 stay on my card as pending for longer only because the casino never sent a release. The casino hotel I stay at now releases quickly so after a few days it goes away. These you talk of if they appeared after your summary don't sound like they should have shown up later though. Pending charges show up in a few hours after applied.

    Hi all,

Last week I sailed on the Jewel of the Seas (cruise ended this past Sunday). I was reviewing my credit card transactions today and there are a bunch of charges from the cruise that I don't recognize and the "final" amount charged to my account is greater than what was on the final cruise invoice that I received on the last day from the ship. Who should I contact about this? I booked through a travel agent (if that affects the answer at all).

PS I'm from SW Ontario Canada - again if that affects the answer at all.

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

  2. Specialty restaurants solo can it be done?

Some ships like the Norwegian Epic have Solo lounges where many solo cruisers gather and at some meetings there some solo cruisers join with others to not eat alone if they desire. I have specialty dinning reservations and never really thought about having to eat alone, but others might not want to eat alone and if so I would have no problem joining them.

  3. I suffer terribly from motion sickness. I am the one who always get sick (very sick). I have tried Bonine and Dramamine and wrist bands and nothing worked for me. Then I tried the patch http://transdermscop.com/transderm-scop-patient-information.htm, which is a prescription and it was a miracle for me! I have heard that some people have side effects but I have had none and have used them on every cruise. When we go on cruises we often do excursions on small boats, planes, helicopters, trains, and these would have made me violently ill without the patch. Now I use the patch and I can do everything and never have to worry, thereby enjoying every activity. One patch lasts 3 days so I get the prescription before my cruise for the correct number of patches I need from my doctor.

That's why the US Navy uses the patch. Can't have military fighting a war with seasickness or the sideaffects of the meds themselves. The patch worked great for me too in the beginning when I was new to the shipboard life. I no longer get sick at sea.

  4. We will be sailing on the Breakaway from NY to Bermuda. Our flight home from Newark, is quite tight for time so a quick disembarkation would be preferred. Is this possible on the Breakaway and how would I organize it ?. thanks

I cruised on the Breakaway last year in Nov and left the ship with my own bags as soon as they allowed us to leave about an hour after arriving but I got in line as soon as possible after I had breakfast and heard what debarkation times would be as the lines can be long, but once they got going I was off within 30 minutes!

  5. I can't respond about the gift cards, but you have two choices if you want your reward to be monetary rather than an upgrade. You can either get an onboard credit or have it as cash. Most argue that it is better to have it as cash and then use your card to pay for onboard expenses so you earn additional points.

Of course as you can see from reading above, most of us regulars believe the best use of the points is for upgrades....but it takes a while to accumulate them.

Yeah I just talked with both NCL and BOA and the points at BOA can be issued as a statement credit for half of the OBC value or a cash value in a giftcard. So 5000 points would be worth a $25 giftcard or card credit. But NCL said if the points were used as OBC the minimum had to be 5000 points redeemed for a $50 OBC. So my 4100 points are of no value for OBC till I reach 5000!

  6. Call Enterprise, they pick you up! Bring you to the rental office and you get your car for the time you need it, but remember, if they are closed when you bring the car back you can drop it off and put the keys in a drop box, but will have to find your own way back to the ship. Most areas are open till 6 pm mon-fri. Sat Sun are different hours. Airports don't pick up or drop off but have longer hours and more cars available. Yes, if you get a vehicle from a rental office near the pier and drop it off at MCO they may charge a one way drop charge but it does extend the hours you can use the vehicle due to Airport hours and make it easier for you as you will be there for your flight.

  7. The Free at Sea dining Plan is the same terms as the 3day Specialty Dining Plan that you can purchase. The $84 to $99 is the addition of the 18% service charge.

The cabana price changes form cruise to cruise. It probably will not come down as they do sell out even at that price. The $299 you saw before you booked was the starting price - probably said "Adults from $299." Once you booked and logged in you would see the specific price for your cruise. If you log out and look at excursions you will again see the $299 price.

I bought the 4 day specialty dinning pkg and it was $99 including service charge on the Epic. I reserved Moderno, Le Bistro, and Cagney's twice! Some restaurants, even if they are ala carte allow the use of the specialty, but any add entrees are at added cost.

  8. I just got off the BA and the Sabrett's carts are still there! There were actually two carts we found set up during the second sea day outside O'Sheehan's and directly below on Deck 6.

No relish, but lots of mustard and sauerkraut!

Excellent! Thanks for the update! Sabrett make a great sautéed onion for their dogs that's very tasty too, but the mustard and kraut will work anytime.

  9. I'll be on a cruise that ends on February 18 in San Francisco. Our return flight doesn't leave until 8:30 PM. We are wanting to rent a car for the day and return it at the airport before we leave. Does anyone know if there are any rental car companies at or very near pier 27? If not, are there any that have shuttles from the port to the car rental office?

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!

  10. We have never cruised before. I am completing the online check-in process and it asks me what time we would like to embark. Is earlier better? Later? Any advantages or disadvantages to getting on early or late?

It may depend on the ship and the terminal. If debarkation of the previous cruisers on that ship takes longer as did the Breakaway when my brother and I arrived at about 9:30am we watched as the people left before we were allowed to start boarding after 12pm. Once onboard we went to the Garden Cafe for buffet while awaiting our rooms top be ready and luggage to arrive. But we were on the boat and ready to get the cruise started! Loved it!

  11. What experience have you all had with ship stability? Is the new technology really that good at preventing feeling the ship motion or should I make sure to have a midship cabin?

When I was on the Breakaway last November I was overlooking the bow on deck 11 and never felt any discernable motion. Though I was in the US Navy on ships for 12 of 16 years and been through some 55° rolls turning into the straits of Magellan. I did watch for motion when getting underway, but didn't sense any on the Breakaway. Bigger longer ships rock very little and they have stabilizer fins to keep rocking to a minimum.

  12. Is it technically possible for cruiseships to replace parts of the hull with large windows that can cope with the forces at sea level?

I'd love a venue ("Deck Zero", "The Aquarium"?) with 15ft windows of which 10 are below and 5 above sea level. You'd be able to see the sun reflected on the surface of the sea, violent splashing waves, and the more quiet water below, filled with sealife, all at the same time. Wouldn't that be awesome?

    Take a cruise on/in a submersible!

  13. I like the RCI ports the best. Lots more to see and do in them.

I do agree about sailing out of NY and/or NJ during the winter months -- you will have some rough weather until you get the Caribbean and then on the way back.

Yes, I went on the Breakaway last year in the first week of November and though the morning was cold as we sailed passed the Statue of Liberty when we hit Port Canaveral it was nice and warm and though the hurricane season doesn't end till the end of November it was smooth sailing. The only port we had an issue was the port where they use a tender to get ashore GSC. Those ports you would visit on the Breakaway are some that would provide many lasting memories. Some ports you might even be able to get resort day passes for great experiences.

  14. You are correct. For you, just keep it simple and, take the $300.

I hate for you to be befuddled.

...and I really don't care that you sent your message from your SM-G935P using Forums mobile app

Now there's your real character coming out. No one "befuddled" here. You used my question and did not answer what I said. If you don't have an answer to what is asked, don't answer. If you weren't answering me then say so. That's all.

  15. The hotdog cart on the Breakaway was the long established name brand of hotdogs in the New York/New Jersey area. Sabrett I believe. Though when I was on the Breakaway last November the cart was rarely open for business. Every time I went to the deck where it was supposed to be it was stowed against the bulkhead like it was never serving any hotdogs during that cruise. I was hoping to get a few as they don't have this brand in florida unless you buy the no casing type. Probably just on the Breakaway because it is out of NY.

  16. I was surprised and disgusted to learn that my bank (Chase) will not allow a travel notification for use of its debit card in ATMs in many South America nations. I could not get a straight answer on whether transactions would still be possible in places such as Uruguay, Venezuela or Chile. I can understand the likelihood of a blocked withdrawal if there was no advance notice, but that's what I thought such notices were meant to avoid. Anyone have advice and experience to share?

On NCL the Breakaway I set up a check cashing line of credit before my last cruise and all I needed was one blank check and got cash anytime I needed it for the casino onboard but can be used ashore also.
