we sail out of San Pedro on Princess several times a year...as stated by previous posters, your experience will depend on a few factors...the primary factors are whether you are boarding at berth 93 or 91/2 & when you decide to arrive other less likely factors are if there is an unexpected delay (ship arrives late, Coast Guard inspection, or some other unusual circumstance)

    • I have never seen them check boarding times or groups at the port of LA (San Pedro)
    • berth 93 (the one perpendicular to the harbor) has a much bigger building & waiting areas & is IMHO much nice for embarkation, the other (which is parallel to the harbor) is smaller & gets quite crowded so if there is any delay, you may have to stand to wait...if by some chance you are leaving from the outer harbor they will put up tents there & boarding should be very easy as well (but Princess will not give you any instructions on how to arrive or park or anything so come back to CC for help)
    • once you are inside (93) or in line (91/2) they will have plenty of people to direct you to the appropriate line (I travel with one person with a walker & another who needs wheelchair assistance for boarding, so we are directed that way & never get to the elite line)
    • I always aim to arrive between 10:30 & 10:45 & find it very easy to board with my people, their mobility devices & stuff...except for the times with the above mentioned delays (so bring a little patience in your carry on, just in case)
    • Princess is very, very bad about giving out information before you get to the port, but once you are there, they do know what they are doing & get you in pretty smoothly & quickly (I guess they think we don't need the info, but we sure wish they would share more)

    have a wonderful cruise

    Very helpful!  Thank you!

  2. Thank you!  This was what I was looking for!  Seems like Princess would give that info to us.  We are in a Penthouse and haven't heard anything about boarding except to choose a group and a time.  I kept thinking suites would have a boarding area.  We are Platinum now and can't remember how many more points till we move up.  I should check it out.

Not so for us. We called Celebrity to see if we could move our 1/24/22 cruise on the Constellation to the 12/12/22 on the Constellation. The total cost for the January cruise was about $400 over the December cruise. We were able to upgrade to Aqua class and still have the $400 above what we paid for the January cruise. Everything came out to $0 owed. The $400 was 'lost money' according to the agent, but we were in a higher class cabin which made my wife happy. I was willing to go along with that.

Now for the problem we are having. Even though I got an invoice for $0 owed, the online showed $352 owed for gratuities. I called and got that straightened out back to an invoice of $0 owed. Next a minus $330 charge showed up on the online screen. I thought that was a bit odd, but it was a minus charge. I checked a couple of days later and the minus charge had been changed to $330 owed. I have called twice to get this removed to no avail as the agents stated that another department would handle this and they would pass along the request. Nothing yet has happened, so I sent Celebrity customer service an email about the charge....still waiting. It appears the charge has something to do with a surcharge of some sort which no one can explain at Celebrity.

Others have complained about a glitch happening. When we moved the reservation, she sai it would be about 10 days to get the final receipt. How long ago did you change?  So sorry!  Hopefully you have time to straighten it all out. I think they have gremlins in the system.

  4. We recently had mild cases of Omicron.  We tested positive.  We can continue to test positive for the next 3-6 months.  Please keep this in mind if you have had Covid and plan to cruise soon.  They do have a provision for this with your Dr’s letter, but no idea if that is difficult to have it accepted when boarding.  I’m too nervous to try it.

  5. I just moved our March sailing to next year. Our final payment was due next week, 60 days!  I booked directly with Celebrity. Not sure if Other agents are following that timing. I didn’t want to stress over it.  Didn’t want FCC.  We were able to keep the deposit and our on board credit.

Some choice!   If we cancel our March cruise and are issued an FCC, it has to be used for a cruise during the 2022 hurricane season!  Some choice!

I called Celebrity. The person was wonderful. I just rebooked something for next year and all was transferred over to the new booking. Even kept on board credits. If you cancel then you will get FCC. Easier to rebook and deal with this all later.

My TA confirmed it via email but I don't remember where this info was posted.  Here is what my TA wrote in case that is of any help to you:

I just spoke with Celebrity and they have extended their final payment deadlines to 60 day prior to sailing but only for sailings through March 31, 2022.   That apparently came out in September of 2021.  Unfortunately I was advised that they are unable to extend your final payment due date.

Our payment is due next week for our March sailing. It is due 60 days prior. .  Probably will cancel it but holding off till the very last minute. I’m hoping they will extend the time again!  I don’t want to tie money up in cruise credits. And, prices in the future are very pricey.

  8. If you book and the price drops, but no cabins in your class of cabin, they won't adjust anything.  We usually receive OBC for one reason or another.  I think now, since the cruise lines are struggling, it's probably impossible to get it on a new booking unless you snag it right when you first book.  We use one of the Celebrity agents and he has been able to offer us OBC that we weren't aware of while looking at the web.  But, those could be a thing of the past!  Hope you have some success.

I received it. I have cruised on Edge but don't currently have a cruise booked on her.

Same here.  We sailed in Aqua Class and enjoyed Blu.  As for the cabin, thought it was small and not a fan of the Infinite Balcony.  I just love walking out on a real balcony in the middle of the night and watching the stars on a clear night.  Heck, I just love a real balcony!

  10. I just read an article posted by NBC News, about the Covid19 vaccines.  Who will get the vaccine and in what sequence?  I had hoped that my number would come up in the 2nd or 3rd group.  However, after reading, I worry how states will set the standards for sequencing.  Also, logistics to accomplish any of this are sketchy at best.  And, having to get 2 shots each, this is a nightmare!  I don't see how any cruise can depend totally on a vaccine till all the details in scheduling can be worked out.  I'd love to get the shots, but no idea how any of us will do this unless we are deemed "essential"!

  11. I guess we were lucky it all worked for us. I did read the rules and knew it would. Same ship class. Within 4 weeks of original date+a year. Same # of days. Same itinerary. But if all that isn’t possible they should be willing to do something. Just not fair. Not your fault. I would appeal it to a higher source if you can.

  12. We had that trip for Jan, 2021.  Yesterday I rescheduled it for next year.  The stress was getting to me over it all.  Even if it does go the fact that the Covid 19 test would need to be obtained 5 days prior to sailing wasn't going to work.  It's hard to schedule and we had planned to spend some days in Fla prior to sailing.  For us, it was just too much.  We have an Alaska trip planned near the end of the season.  I'm hoping they have the details all working by then.  Lift & Shift ends the end of Sept.  If you plan to do this better check to see what is still available.   Best of luck to you!

  13. We once had a party and our butler helped us deliver invitations.  We enjoy the daily visits and insight on things going on, what to do, where, when.  You can make special requests for your cabin.  If you encounter anything you either don't understand or need help with, the butler is a great resource.  I know they will pack/unpack for you but never done this.  I'm sure there are a lot of other benefits but have to say that just the chatting and insights have been our favorites.  The insider info can be priceless.

  14. I did a L/S yesterday.  I called in to do it and was really easy.  The thing that bothered me on line was no place to request a specific cabin#.  When I was chatting with the Celeb person, they said my same cabin was available (which I'd already looked at on line) and that is the one I have received.  I'm happy!  Our original cruise was for Jan!  I don't want to be stressing over any of it, so the L/S was a good option.  If you plan to do this program, it appears that it has to be done by 9/30/2020.  We could still book a cruise for 2021 if we choose and things look better but now we are set for 2022.  The stress was too much for us trying to travel this Jan.

By the way, the criteria to do this....Same ship class.  Within 4 weeks of current date.  Same class cabin.  Same length cruise.  Same itinerary.
