  1. the cruise is on there and there is $200 credit listed but subject to terms and conditions which are not possible to find
  2. Just got this email from our travel agent (Not our usual one because this is a specialty golf cruise). It's interestingly worded and I wondered who actually pays for the credit. (At the end of the day this is a minor amount of money in relation to the cost of the cruise, so that is not the issue): " You are booked on a Port to Port discounted cruise fare on your upcoming Silver Muse .....Cruise. ..... ....... we registered your room at the time of your booking with the Virtuoso Voyages cruise programme which entitles each guest to an up to USD 200 pp on board credit. We do this as ......Travel is a Virtuoso agency and this is a benefit our guests receive. We have done this on all Virtuoso Voyages cruises over the past 10 years plus without any problems. However, without any prior warning (and many months after we registered most of you for the Virtuoso on board credit), we have been advised by Virtuoso that it will not provide the on board credit as Silversea will not honour the credit on Port to Port discounted fares. We have objected to this ruling but we could not reverse. Thus, we regret to advise that the up to USD 200 pp on board credit we advised should come with your booking will no longer form part of your booking. "
  3. please remind me when we get told how many formal nights there are. Our time line for Jan cruise has the formal icon at the bottom of the page but none of the days seem to have the icon allocated
  4. do you tip guides differently if it is their private business or they are an employee? I remember once that a private business guide got very upset with me because we did not add a tip for their quite expensive services. I would gladly have paid the extra upfront if he had just quoted me an all-inclusive cost for the day. For the life of me, I can still not understand why he would want a tip for a service he quoted for and was paid for. This was in Israel BTW and the cost was like $500 for the day and I would have gladly paid say $550 if that was what he wanted to be paid for the day
  5. is bridge a general thing on most cruises? Are there different grades?
  6. Hi there, we wanted to use onboard credit for a massage on Muse in Jan 2024 but it seems that there is virtually no availability at all. Do extra slots open up closer to sailing? How easy is it to find a cancellation?
  7. Cuise is Muse: starts Auckland 4 Jan I am in Sydney Restaurant bookings opened exactly midnite East Coast USA time 120 days before 4 Jan, at 14h00 Sydney time. Very convenient time for me
  8. BTW the dining opened at exactly 120 days at 14h00 sydney time = midnite east coast timeUSA for the cruise starting 4 Jan 2024
  9. I do not ever recall going on a cruise where you did not have to surrender your passport
  10. thanks, great review Can you make a comment about what everyone was wearing or not on the different designated nights
  11. one of my major concerns about our upcoming MUSE trip is the reported standard of the hamburgers ...... :-)))). Very concerning to a hamburger addict!!! Anyone ever tried to hack the hamburger to get the kitchen to produce a better version?
  12. Yep: I remain amazed by those who carry on about the SS dress "code" there is no dress code, only suggestions it seems that few passengers know or care about it it seems there is minimal enforcement anyway
  13. seriously, in this day and age, a tie should have no place, in relation to behavior, manners, appropriate dress etc etc. They are a total anachronism...
  14. Are you and Bitbob on the same cruise? If so, it's amazing how your impressions about the dress "code" and its enforcement (only by my interpretation of the words and sentiment you have both used) seem to be different.
  15. my question is, should SS even allow a cheap polyester dinner suit into the main dining room on formal nights?
  16. I am, like you, for a bit of fun and info. But as I said, the vast majority probably do not
  17. and I think this post sums up the entire thread.... Most SS cruisers do not use cruise critic and most have probably never been on the SS website or even read the fine print on their cruise documentation.
  18. just a weird follow-up: when they do cook it for you, do they cook it in a kitchen/galley somewhere and the cooked food appears before you, or do they cook it on a hot-rock in front of you?
  19. and can one specifically reserve an outside table?
  20. thanks - does one need reservations for La Terrazza and can one reserve an outdoor table?
  21. We will be taking our first SS cruise this summer and we really enjoy dining outside in summer if possible. Can anyone explain the different options? Which ones require reservations? We do not want to cook our own food which appears to happen at one venue.
