Thanks for posting.  These cabins are certainly a departure from traditional cruise ships.  Whether that's good or bad is very much an individual thing.  I suspect that they will be well received by VV's target demographic, and less so by older, experienced cruisers.  I am very much looking forward to reading reviews once she sets sail.

Definitely, looking forward to seeing how the final ship is received when it's launched.

  2. Hi All,

We had the opportunity to visit Virgin Voyages design studio near London to see the cabin mockups and suites. We toured a brilliance rock star suite and Sea Terrace Balcony cabin.

If you have any questions about the cabin, please let us know.

    Thanks

    David.

  3. We will be on the first sailing out of dry dock. We didn't realise this but looking forward to sailing on a refreshed ship. I also hunted around to see what the changes are going to be and all I have been told is they are replacing the beds, repainting the livery, refreshing some of the furnishings and changing the kid's clubs.

  4. Currently on Meraviglia. Great ship, staff good, spotless, no sense of crowding. Lots of Chinese on board and lots of children!! We had snow yesterday in Rome which led to them cancelling the shore excursions

What is the Aurea area like on the top deck?

The area is called Top 19. It was always empty when we visited. You can see it on the Ship Tour we did here:

  5. Hi All,

We recently sailed on the MSC Meriviglia and put together this review about our experience. We were really worried about this sailing after we read lots of very negative reviews so wanted to share our option.

We sailed in a Fantastica Balcony Cabin departing from Genoa and disembarking in Rome. The sailing was full, but we found there to be more adult couples than families.

You can see our review below and if you have any questions let me know.

    Thanks :-)

  6. We recently put together a tour of the MSC Yacht Club and a tour of the Meraviglia.

Hope this gives you an idea of what to expect on MSC. :-)

  7. So with Masterchef there is a quiz on the pool deck one day to qualify - the top 6 players are chosen. All the questions are food related, like how does this grow, where does this come from etc. They then team you up with someone else to make 3 pairs of contestants.

The next day, you go to the theatre ahead of time, get given an apron etc, and they tell you what will happen.

You then go on the stage with your partner - the cruise director introduces you and where you're from. Don't expect big cheers if you're not Italian!

Masterchef is then a mystery box challenge, of cold ingredients - there is no actual cooking in the theatre. You have to make something tasty using some of all of the ingredients, with presentation and technique being a key factor. This wasn't easy with three types of melon, strawberries, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper whilst being watched by a full theatre!!

3 chefs from the galley act as the judges. The guests cheer for their favourite dish but the chef has the final say. Myself and the lady from Portugal I was paired with had barely any cheers lol we were so surprised to win!! My trick was to try and make it look like something that might be served onboard as it would tick the presentation box if not the taste!

Congratulations on winning MasterChef. We were in the theatre watching and were cheering for you guys.

We too had a Fantastica balcony and where given MyChoice dining when we should not have. The dining team where confused as us but still honoured the MyChoice benefits.

We had a great time and will be uploading blogs and videos from the sailing to our YouTube channel in the coming weeks.

  8. As we explored the Promenade, there were crew at almost every location to explain the venues.

I had some minor concerns about dining times and reservations that needed to get resolved.

    1. We had booked the Chef's Table online, but no way to specify the day and time; we wanted it for a specific date.
    2. Our friends were Fantastica and we were Aurea... we needed to get us both in the same dining room at the same table.
    3. We purchased the Tryptic (3 specialty meals) but could not link both couples and could not book the same time slots.

Amazingly, we had all this resolved within 5-10 minutes.

A rep in Eataly sat with us and resolved the Chef's Table booking, as well as edited all the specialty bookings to have all of us at the same time.

Right across the way, there was an "open-air" office for Main Dining...and the gentleman fixed our dining so that we had a table for 4 in Panorama at the desired time.

<boom> ..just like that, all issues were solved,.

    Nice way to start...

We went back to our cabin to rest and change for dinner... We always start a cruise in the MDR.

We had a forward facing Aurea Suite, cabin 10008.

Details on our cabin are in this separate thread:

The hallways to the cabins are a bit clinical and could use some art or color..

    Tomorrow, we dock in Naples...

    Hi computerworks

    ,

I wonder if you can help. I have booked the 3+1 dining package but confused about how I actually make reservations?

  9. We have just booked this ship after finding a good price for it. I am excited about a new ship and looking forward to trying MSC. While i have heard mixed things about MSC, particularly about the food, them the ship looks awesome and the ports of call sound great.
