We did the Memphis to New Orleans cruise last June. While the reviews do seem to be at best, mixed, my wife and I have no regrets about taking this cruise. The biggest issue is with service, for a variety of reasons, this is a big issue for this ship. But for us, the quality of the itinerary, the excursions , the cuisine, and entertainment /enrichment outwayed the downside.

Despite the issues, we are actually considering doing the upper Mississippi on Viking.

Thanks for your review - we are booked on the Memphis to New Orleans itinerary  - where did you stay pre-cruise - and how did you get from Memphis to the launch ramp in Roseburg ?

We took the Mississippi River cruise last May.  The cruise wasn't the best:  Loads of busing, to include a 3 hour bus ride to Memphis from the launching ramp (Really, a large launching ramp!) in Mississippi.  Some of the local tour guides were terrible.  Our guide in Vicksburg was unable to identify local landmarks.  In Memphis we were placed in a Hilton that was in poor condition and under renovation.  The floor for our room had scaffolding and paint with plastic everywhere and a very strong paint odor.

The on-board service was good, and the dining options were tasty.  The view from the water was excellent, and the stateroom was very comfortable. We rented a car in Memphis to drive to Shiloh on our own after the cruise.  I am glad that I made our own reservations and accommodations in New Orleans, along with all of our activities and dining there.

We have cruised with Viking on the Danube in 2017 and again in 2019.  We plan to travel on a different cruise line for our next river cruise in Europe.

Oh dear - so sorry to read your review of the VIking Mississippi !  We are booked on the Memphis - New Orleans itinerary next February.  (The Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce says that the best month to visit Vicksburg is February)  Anyway - looking for a pre-cruise hotel - I guess not in Memphis - but closer to the actual cruise "launching ramp"  - any suggestions ??

  3. We are assigned a 1:30 check in time

However, If I remember correctly, if you are in a Suite (we are in a Sky Suite again) - we can check in when they first start the check-in process (about 11:00 or 11:30 ?  - Correct ????

Our flight arrives at SEA-TAC at 10:00 - and we have Celebrity (bus) transfer service - so - hopefully, can check in "early"

    Thanks

We are seniors and when we took our grandkids to the lumberjack show both they and us enjoyed the show.  It is totally hokey and I am sure that the competition is also fake but it was still fun to watch.

    DON

How did you book the show ? - Directly from their web-site, or via a ship's shore excursion ? or via a "private" company ?  Thanks

  5. Starting to look at shore excursions for our June 2024 trip - Celebrity Edge - Have enjoyed the Crab Feast several times before, and want to go again this time,

Also , have always wanted to see the Lumberjack show

Has anyone booked the combination of these two things through a non-ship excursion provider ?  Would you recommend ? Seems like there are several operators offering various versions

Has anyone gone to the Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan - would you recommend for four Seniors ?

    THANKS

  6. Thank you all - for the comments, and recommendations

Do not planning on doing any sightseeing - just wanted a one-night hotel with ease from airport when we arrive - and then somewhat of a plan to get to the (Viking) cruise-ship the next morning.

Currently looking at staying at the DoubleTree at the Airport for the night (seems like they have a decent restaurant on-site)

  7. Would appreciate any recommendation for one night  hotel in Toronto - easy to get to from airport - and (fairly) close to cruise port

Going on our first Viking cruise (Great Lakes)Two seniors - not totally unlimited budget - but don't need to skimp too much !!

    Thank  You

you will have no problem what so ever!!

Just returned from our cruise on the Solstice. Disembarked at 7:15, ( yes we got lucky), we were actually at the end of the line for walk off. There  were 5 of us, one in a stroller.  Immigration was a breeze, and there were an overabundance of transfer choices. Many drivers practically begging for customers. We had a car pick us up, paid $20 per person. The airport was no problem as well. We had Pre check and were at our gate at 8:45am for an 11:18 flight .

THANK YOU !! Totally appreciate this report

Galveston Shuttle and Limo provides private car service.

I've booked a private car with  them for my next cruise.

I've found that calling them is better than email.

Their private car service for two is a Cadillac CT5 or CT6.

It will cost you approximately $450 round trip IAH/Galveston.

    Thank You !

Would appreciate recommend transport - it looks like the Galveston Express has 15 stops (!) from pick-up from HOU to our Hotel in Galveston (14 stops at different cruise ships)

    HELP

    Thank You

As a follow up - I did call Galveston Express - and yes - they will make all of the stops shown on their web-site - they only have bigger shuttle buses - no private direct transport - so still looking for some kind of service.  Anybody ??

Where did  you find the information about the number of stops?

When I went on-line to Galveston Shuttle's web-site, and choose a time for pick-up at the airport - it clearly listed all of the cruise ships that the shuttle would stop before delivering us to our hotel
