I've just finished reading Rick Steves Mediterranean Cruise Ports too and his instructions for DIY Lucca/Pisa are VERY detailed :) Its worth a read to give you a balanced bite of all the options. Depending on the day you're cruising there's also a shuttle bus from the directly port to Pisa that's quite reasonably priced but a bit limited on times

As an Aussie who visits Sydney fairly regularly I'd also recommend the Rocks or Darling Harbour areas as the best for general interest wandering around. Also provides easy access to the ferries at Circular Quay to get to other scenic areas in. Syndey

Oh when are you going Taylor? We're not there until September so I'd love to hear how it goes if you're there earlier. Also curious to know if they adjust their times at all if tenders are running slowly

Trying to decide whether to have a bit of time off city walls and churches in Kotor and just wondering if anyone has done a half day kayak and snorkeling tour Viator are doing thru the Blue Cave. We're only there from 0800 to 1700 so I don't expect to have a huge amount of time to do other things if we do that trip

Thanks scm1848 - I'd figured out that getting to Pompeii was fine from both ports. It was more missing out on the related stuff in Naples that bothered me. Good to hear that you rate Salerno as the nicer city though. I'm jealous of your 24 day cruise! :)

I booked the September 2016 Mediterranean Romance in January this year and at that point the itinerary included a stop in Naples (to access Pompeii in particular). Just looked on HALs site and the dock for that day has changed to Salerno.
Is this kind of change common (if so how do people go with booking non HAL excursions)? I'm a first time cruiser so I'd assumed changes would only be made at cruise time to do with weather etc.
I'm not too happy with it as my understanding are that the main artifacts from Pompeii are in the museum in Naples. If I have a whinge to HAL are they likely to hand out any perks as a sweetener?
I'm not sure when the change occurred between Feb and now but I'm pretty sure i didn't receive any kind of notification either.

Does anyone know if the Eurodam has USB power points like the ones shown in these pics? Coming from Australia that would reduce the need for travel adapters for us

Bringing wine into the MDR
in First Time Cruisers
Posted
Hi
We're taking a HAL Mediterranean cruise in September and I expect that we'll buy some wines in port, pay the corkage and want to bring a bottle into the MDR for dinner. Just wondering what the 'ettiquete' is so to speak about bringing in the bottle. Do you hand it over to the maitre d' when getting your table assignment (open seating), give it to the first serving person who attends your table or just put it on the table and ask for an ice bucket and glasses?
Thanks
