We just spent three nights in Cartagena. It was very enjoyable and safe. In the old city where you will want to spend most of your time, there are guards everywhere. Taxis are very inexpensive. We paid just over $2 US to go between our hotel in Bocagrande to the old city. We also had the best meal of our 10 day Colombia trip at Caffe Lunatica. Highly recommended.

Uber is so cheap in Budapest! It was 1/3 of what a taxi cost. We used in Prague too. The driver there said he does it full time so it's getting popular.

That's really helpful. I'm fine with the pebbles. I don't expect the Caribbean. I'm just concerned about keeping our items secure while we swim. I've only found one beach so far (Neptune) that has locker facilities. Perhaps it's not as much as a problem on the private beaches?

Does anyone have recommendations for a private beach in Nice? We will tender in Cannes, and then take the train to Nice. We'd like to explore Nice a little and then relax and eat at one of the beaches.

We just got back from a 3 night trip to Cartagena. $10USD is way too expensive for a cab to el centro (aka torre del reloj/clock tower). We always paid $7000 colombian pesos which is ~$2.25. Uber is also in Cartagena, and it's almost the same as a taxi. That's a good option if you don't want to carry pesos.
Sweetp- it's very safe for women to walk around especially during the day. Your time at the port is so short, however, that I would suggest a private tour. The fort was a big highlight for me, and I loved walking around the old city and its neighbor, Getsemani.
