  1. Very interesting thread, thank you for the tips and information. I'm going on a Norse Legends tour with HAL msRotterdam in 8 days!! πŸ˜„ We will be visiting: Eidfjord, Alesund, Geiranger and Bergen. It also says: scenic cruising Hardangerfjord and cruising Geirangerfjord. Since it's october and it's still dark before we arrive, I assume we can only see/experience scenic cruising once we leave a port of call? I'm in a starboard aft balcony; will I be able to see things well? And is there any chance at seeing the Northern Lights from any of these destinations when it's dark? I'm planning on doing the HΓ¦reid round walk (yellow route) in Eidfjord if the weather is decent. Has anyone done this before? Or does someone have another suggestion for Eidfjord? Any other suggestions, tips, or whatever are always very welcome πŸ™‚
  2. I've read that self-disembarkation time is usually early, but can you also self-disembark and leave the ship at a later time? Like say 9am? I'm asking because I will be disembarking in my home country with someone picking me up at the pier and I would like to take it easy and leave when the biggest crowd has left!
  3. First of all, thank you all for your response; great help! And wow really? Even sustainable water bottles? I totally get why people don't want plastic bottles and don't want cruisers to bring their own food and drinks, but I think water is essential!
  4. I love this idea!! Thank you πŸ™‚
  5. Thank you so much for your reply and help πŸ™‚
  6. Ah thank you so much!! That makes it much easier πŸ˜‰ I just booked my tour to Mount Dalsnibba & Eagle Road! Can't wait πŸ™‚
  7. Hello, I just booked my first HAL cruise on the Rotterdam to Norway! Usually I only drink water and tea which is why I didn't buy a drink package. But I have a few questions about drinking water on the ms Rotterdam. First of all, I have to take medications each day, so I need to have water for that. Am I allowed to bring water (carton bottles) with me on the cruise? Do I need to pay for that? Or can I order large bottles of water for a specific price? I couldn't find it on the Navigator app. I want to take my reusable water bottle on board, is that okay? Is it safe to drink the water in your cabin? Are there places on the ship where you can fill your bottle with (tap) water? And can you bring it back to your cabin? I believe they serve water at the MDR, if I'm correct. But I assume they won't like it if I would ONLY drink the water? I realize these are quite a few questions about water haha, but it's important for me because I drink a lot of it! Thank you in advance for those answering! I really appreciate this forum and the information πŸ™‚
  8. Ah yes, I forgot to mention that, but thank you so much for your lovely and informative response! I am thinking of booking this tour in Geiranger: https://www.geirangerfjord.no/panorama-exclusive-bus The tour start at 9:00 (or 13:00 but I don't like to risk not being back on time for departure), but this port is a tender port, right? The HAL will prioritize guests who booked an excursion through the cruise line, so is there a realistic chance of me not being able to make this tour?
  9. You mean late as in booked late or because it's near the end of the 'tourist season'? Thank you for your information and tips πŸ™‚ I will definitely try Norway Excursions, thank you!
  10. Thank you for your tips, great to here they dock right there! I love the idea of overlooking the city from the top of the mountain. And yes, I'm doing research right now and probably will decide on the day itself depending on the weatherπŸ™‚
  11. Hello everyone πŸ™‚ I just booked a last minute cruise to Norway (leaving on the 25th of September!). The four ports we will visit are: Eidfjord, Alesund, Geiranger and Bergen. Since I booked this last minute, there are very limited choices of excursions to book. And I personally prefer to just walk around to see a place and more so to walk and view nature! Does someone know how easy it is per port to just walk around? How close are the ports from the 'cities'/places? Thank you in advance πŸ™‚ And if someone has any recommendation for a great tour excursion or something to do at those destinations, I'm very interested to know because I've never been to Norway!
  12. Hi everyone, Just booked my first cruise on the Hal Rotterdam to NorwayπŸ™‚ I already have a few questions I hope someone could answer. First of all, can you keep your luggage/suitcase with you as you embark? Or don't they allow this bc of the crowds? Since this is a American cruise line, will it have the US socket/outlets? Or also the 'European'? Since I'm from the EU, I have an internet 'subscription' with my mobile provider which allows for the same costs all through European countries. If you arrive at a port in Norway, how do you know you are using internet/4G from the country or you are still connected to sea internet? I hope this question makes sense... I didn't buy a drink package because I only drink water and tea, but I was wondering what drinks are included on the cruise and more specifically in which areas? Can you drink water at the main dining room? Or, if that's the only thing you drink, do you need to pay for bottled water? And a follow-up question; I believe roomservice is free, but if you don't have a drink package and you would like to order a cup of tea, do you need to pay for it? *I believe tea is included at the buffet Sorry for all my questions and thank you in advance for those kind enough to respond πŸ™‚
