I might have been on the same cruise as you OP -- cancelled on Friday.

It was such a good deal and it hard to let go, especially now since they reduced the perks and increased the costs.

Now to find another 2 NCL cruises before 2022 to use up my CN certificates.

I booked a Hawaiian cruise for June of 2022 with my CN certificates. Hopefully that one will work out!!

OP--I know it was a hard decision...but you did the right thing.  Sadly, I will probably be canceling our November cruise. I have a few months before final payment..but it is not looking good.  Even if things settle down, I worry about the possible of virus resurgence in the fall.

Just really annoyed, as  I have a good price with lots of extra perks which I worked hard on to get!

I know...we had some awesome perks as well as a great price!

  3. Hi All,

I'm so sad. I canceled my August cruise on the Breakaway today.😥 Final payment was due and I just couldn't take the chance that the cruise wouldn't sail; additionally I didn't want to wait to buy airline tickets if it did go...so I decided in our case, it was best to just cancel until this whole coronavirus is over. My PCC tried to talk me into making final payment because they would give me an additional 20-50% toward another cruise if NCL canceled the sailing, but I just couldn't do it, not with unknown airfare prices.

I guess I'll just look forward to our Hawaiian cruise in June of 2022 unless I see something inbetween!

    I hope I did the right thing...but it's done...

  4. Has anyone done the Occidental Resort for the day? I was looking at that one. and it looked pretty good for $84/person for the day.

  5. Hi folks!

I just booked a last minute cruise to Cuba on the Sun. I booked yesterday, and it leaves on June 10th. Needless to say I could only get a GTY cabin. Can anyone give me any guidance as to when I might receive a cabin assignment? Will we know before we leave? I'm very excited, but nervous as I've never done a GTY before...I always know exactly where we'll be on the ship!

    Thanks for your help.

  6. Your math is completely wrong. Yes, they will charge you a service charge of $249.20. If you divide that by 2 people and 7 days, it equates to $17.80 a day. If you drink 2 alcoholic drinks a day, you come out ahead versus paying for drinks individually. Throw in a few sodas and you really start to make this a good deal. If you don't want to pay this, chose a different perk and stop whining!

I was going to say the exact same thing...we're taking the Dawn in November for 11 days and chose the beverage and dining packages. The gratuities came out to $19.32/day for both packages combined. I know that we'll have at least two drinks each per day and go to the specialty restaurants so the packages, even with the added gratuities, were a no-brainer for us! It's all in how you look at it, I guess...

  7. Well, I think we can all agree that the OP would NOT have gotten their camera back without the help of the NCL Lost & Found Dept.

Whoever found it found a camera with NO identification. Whether it was an honest passenger or an honest crew member they contributed along with L & F.

    The result: happy ending.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

When I spoke with NCL lost and found they told me that it was found in the Garden Cafe (apparently by a crew member) where we had eaten breakfast. It was sent to the lost and found department at NCL headquarters, and finally made its way back to us. Definitely an honest crew member!!!:)

  8. :D:DI just wanted to let you all know what a good experience I had with the Lost and Found Department on NCL. We discovered that we lost our brand new Canon camera on our Epic sailing 2/17-24/2018. I filed a claim right away when I realized that it was left behind somewhere on the ship (maybe in our cabin or the Garden Cafe). The bad thing was that it had no identification on it, so when I filed the claim, I was only able to tell them that it was a Canon camera in a black case with an SD card inside. Needless to say, I expected to hear nothing back.

I was told that I would hear something within 10 days...I heard nothing! A week ago I called guest services, and a very nice lady explained the lost and found process and told me not to give up hope...she said that I should be hearing from them soon. Well, yesterday I received a phone call that the camera was found! I had to identify it for them by some of the pictures on it, and it is on its way back to us. Happy ending to the lost camera. Kudos to NCL for finding it for us!

  9. Thank you for your review! It sounds like you had a great time. We leave a week from tomorrow!!

A quick question about the clamshell at GSC... do we need to reserve ahead of time or can we just get one when we get to GSC?

    Thank you

We booked ours at the shore excursion desk on the ship. There were plenty available, but I wouldn't wait till you get to the island. I would definitely book it on the ship.

  10. We sailed on the Epic 2/17/2018. Here is my review:

We were a group of 14 friends on this cruise. I planned the trip for our group, seven of them who had never cruised before. I chose the ship because we had never sailed one of the mega-ships before and wanted to try something new. The itinerary was one my husband and I had done a couple of times in the past.

We all chose to fly in the day before and used Go Port Canaveral for shuttle service and hotel accommodations. We stayed at the Best Western in Titusville, were picked up about 9:30 am, had a 45-minute shuttle ride, and were on the ship before 11:30. Although there were a lot of people at the port, embarkation was pretty smooth.

We got a cocktail and ate lunch at Taste instead of going to the buffet; it was relaxing and not crowded at all. After exploring a bit, our cabins were ready before 2:00 pm. Luggage showed up shortly afterwards. We Stayed in cabin 12096, which was a large balcony. The location was great, not too far from the elevator, so it was easy to get places. I did find the cabin to be very narrow. The sofa is near the balcony in this cabin and the bed is near the sink, so if one of us was brushing our teeth, we had to move out of the way so the other could pass by to get to or from the toilet or shower. The Large balcony was nice, having two chairs, a table, and a lounger. Our roomsteward was attentive, and the room was always in great shape.

Our group split up on the ship, so we didn’t all eat together. Usually four of us stayed together, and since we all had the dining package we ate at Cagney’s, Moderno, Teppanyaki, and La Cucina, along with Taste and Manhattan for dinners. They were all very good, but we liked Cagney’s The least; it just wasn’t as good as what we’d had on other ships. In fact, we had it booked for two nights, but we changed the second one to La Cucina. Ithink Moderno was our favorite; everything was delicious! The food in the main dining rooms was really just as good as the specialty dining rooms. We had all of our breakfasts at the Garden Café. The food was good there as well. For Lunch, we usually just grabbed a burger or sandwich at the Spice H2O grill.

Speaking of Spice, it was our favorite place on the ship! It’s the adults-only space with a small pool, two hot tubs, quite a few loungers (but they fill up fast!), tables and chairs, and a bar and grill.Interestingly, even though it’s a deck above the main pool area, it was not as windy up there as main pool area. There are waiters that come around to take drink orders and service is very speedy. We had the unlimited drink package, and they allow you to get two drinks at once, nice if you’re somewhere where service is not as speedy!

We really just had a laid, back, relaxing cruise this time.We only saw a couple of shows; Priscilla, Queen of the Desert was hysterical. We really enjoyed that one! As far as Burn the Floor, I read such good reviews about it that I was really looking forward to it. As it turned out, we really didn't care for it; in fact, my friend said, “If I had paid for those tickets,I would ask for my money back!” The comedian-magician was very good. The music around the ship was good; we stopped and listened as we passed through.

We had a good turn-out at our Cruise Critic Meet &Greet, about 50 of the 65 who signed up, came to it. We met many of the officers, one of which was Manoel, the restaurant manager. He was especially friendly and accommodating to our group throughout the week. A group of about 15 of us went to the casino for a slot pull after our M&G. We didn’t win any money but had a lot of fun!

Our ports were Great Stirrip Cay, where I definitely recommend spending the $39.00 for the clamshell with two loungers if the sun bothers you at all. The weather was great, the food was good, the lines for the bars were very long…this is where the two drinks/card comes in handy! In Ochos Rios, we took a private tour with Courtney Taylor…highly recommend him as he'll tailor your tour to your wants. In Grand Cayman we shared a pool cabana with cruise critic friends at Royal Palms, which was a short taxi ride from the port. They have a nice, heated pool with a swim-up bar and of course, the beach which was beautiful with warm water. At our final stop in Cozumel, we just got off the ship for a while and did some shopping.

All in all, we had a great cruise! The staff and food on the Epic were fantastic! I did find it to feel crowded at times, especially when trying to get an elevator. I’m not sure I’d sail a mega-ship again as we prefer the smaller, jewel-class ships. We do continue to love NCL and believe them to provide a great cruise…in fact, I’ve booked two more, one on the Dawn, and one on the Gem!

If I can answer any questions, let me know!

  11. We have sailed on the Epic 7 times. Staterooms are generally available shortly after 1:00 pm. The ship kindly requests that you do not go to your stateroom until the cruise director announces that they are ready.

General boarding will start around 11:30.

The Garden Cafe Buffet opens at 11:30

    O’Shehans Pub opens at 11:30

    Taste MDR opens at 12:00

On GSC, go early to get a good clam shell with a meshed vent in the back.

    Bird...

Thanks for this info! We're sailing in 5 days...can't wait!

    ~Joanne

  12. Thank you for your review. I was wondering about the boarding process with so many people there and was hoping that with people choosing different times, it wouldn't be quite so congested.

I'm sorry the cruise wasn't to your liking. We're looking forward to our first "big ship" cruise with NCL in a week. We've always sailed on the smaller, jewel class ships and really enjoyed them. Hoping to enjoy the Epic, too!

    ~Joanne

  13. We stayed in an inside on the Spirit. I think it was on deck 5, right near the stairs or elevator. It was a sideways cabin and it was HUGE...like 200 sq. ft.! We loved it! We left the TV set to the bridge cam, and then we could tell if it was daylight outside.:) The Spirit was one of our favorite ships!
