  1. We got there super early! We got to port around 9:45. Only our second cruise on NCL. Their suites and uber high tiers go first then those needing assistance then Group numbers start. We were on by 11:15.

  2. Just got off Getaway. You should board deck 7 casino area. People flow to left and you should see curved glass stairway leading to lower deck 6. Land right at headliners to your left. Beware there are only 60 passes. We were in group 1 and got 34 & 35

Awesome, thanks! If you don’t mind me asking, did you have priority boarding status or did you just get Group 1 by getting there early? This is our first NCL so we won’t have status. Haha.

  3. This sounds like such fun.

But... what is it REALLY like on the roads with "real cars"?

    Thanks!

Hey! We did this last October and there wasn’t a lot of traffic in the roads, some, but not a bunch. The other cars are real courteous and we would just pull over and let people pass when needed.

Just don’t take the roundabouts too fast! Felt like we were going to tip over the first time, haha, but we just needed to slow down. [emoji23]

  4. Hey guys, having just disembarked, I will gather my thoughts and post more details in the next few days, but I figured I would post this while I was thinking about it. Do not miss the Martini Tastings at the Atrium Bar (Deck 1) with Fritz (bartender). He is an absolute pleasure, has a passion for his job and sprits (history of, etc), and also Journey! Ha! I’m not a “martini person”, but he introduced me to several martini cocktails I will definitely order in the future. It was normally at 6pm, each night, and you sample 3 different cocktails. He will tell you what drinks are offered the following night if you want to decide which nights to attend. It’s either $12 to “sample” all three or $5 each, if they offer one you know you don’t want to try. So much fun! Fritz is quite entertaining and you get a chance to chat with some fellow passengers in a quiet, more intimate environment. [emoji483]

  5. Hi! I have a few questions for our first family cruise! We board on June 24th' date=' a southbound Seward to Vancouver itinerary. I booked before finding out that the dry dock was postponed, but as long as things are clean, we aren't picky about worn fixtures! I'm looking forward to a cozy, classic cruise ship feel, looking forward to the unchanged Crow's Nest, library, and Explorations areas. And the unobstructed, walkable Promenade deck!

If you are easily able to find out, without interrupting your fun!:

    1. What is the depth of the pool with the retractable cover, and whether it is heated enough to swim during an Alaska cruise, that would be very helpful to me!

    2. I'm also curious to know what shows will run this summer--BBC Earth? Orchestra? Magician? I wonder what will be offered on your cruise and maybe that will help figure out the offerings for my trip.

    3. How many Gala nights are there on a 7-day Alaska, and which night is it?

    4. Have they at least put flat panel TVs in the rooms and updated to on-demand or is it still dvd checkout?

Thank you and have a safe and wonderful trip![/quote']

Hey! Just disembarked today! FABULOUS trip! Yes, the decor is dated but SUPER clean and comfy! A couple of answers I got to your questions:

    1. The pool under the retractable roof is 4 ft 5 in on one end and 5 ft 4 in on the other. I could not find anyone that knew the temp but I felt it and it was very comfortable. There were both children and adults (even older adults) swimming in both that pool and the sea view pool. I only mention older adults as we all know children seem to suffer the coldest water if a pool is available. Haha. We had AMAZING weather the entire cruise. While I know our sunny days are not the norm, I would think that if you have a nice day(s) on yours, late June would mean even more comfy pool time than early May.

    2. I’ve got a list together for you, I just need to get it sorted now that we are back. Stay tuned! [emoji4]

    3. There will be two on a 7 day (ours was an odd 6 day before an odd 8 day. Haha so we only had one). The nights will differ based on the itinerary, I think if you call or email HAL cust service they will be able to tell you which nights yours are on.

    4. Our tv was a flat screen but it did still have a dvd, no on demand. The dvd selection was quite extensive though. We were surprised. Our tv was also on a raised shelf above the vanity so we did get full use of the space. We liked that. I’m attaching a picture, although you can’t see the full vanity, but at least the corner with the tv/shelf. Excuse the mess!! 053430e8e0c68ba5db174f93fcd9654e.jpg

The other pic is of the sea view pool. You will see a lady in it, and this was the day we were cruising Endicott Arm and were almost to the Glacier! a6b93521bad385619842287fda779b0a.jpg

Here are some pics of our cabin as well.

  6. No on demand, but did have DVD player.

Our tv (flat screen)/dvd combo was on a raised shelf at the vanity so we had full use of the space. Not sure if every Verandah cabin is set up like this but we were happy! Pardon my mess. Lol 89d968e42107b97d0c88207b391315ab.jpg

  7. Do you have any copies of the daily programs that you can post? We are on Noordam Sept 30 from Vancouver to Honolulu which is like your cruise in reverse so some of the daily patterns just might be the same. Thx for sharing your observations on the condition of the ship!

Here are the dailies from the first couple of days. We just disembarked today so I will upload more later. 7c78ba8061897b0401d70856493f8c9d.jpg25c1dd25dc41aee12968bb3d21cfd881.jpg061a6a00317dd48275ff9b763a80b5a3.jpg724eadf2a96b6e4907d524a30e171b80.jpgb6667ebb8b13fdf75e754ccd4ef8ca35.jpg

  8. For those on Noordam at the moment, is it possible to obtain a wine list please? We are cruising on her from Sydney next year, looking forward to it, haven't been on HAL for a few years.

Hey! Here is a wine list from the Crow’s Nest. I will grab shots of others as well.

  9. I am awaiting my first cruise on HAL in June, but I did see on the Check in page the option to choose cash for your onboard account. Don't recall what the wording below it was, but the option is there.

Thanks! I went in and it was indeed there! They ask you to bring $60 USD/person/day to Guest Services after boarding. Quite different than RCCL, but not a problem.

  10. One quick question about onboard accounts. We normally put down cash for our onboard account, but have never sailed HAL before so I’m not sure what their policy is. We always pre-purchase our drink packages so we don’t normally have a lot of expenses other than gratuities and the occasional specialty dining. Has anyone used a cash account before on HAL?

  11. It is a lot to ask as it requires uploading, but it would be wonderful to see one or two daily programs to get an updated feel for life onboard. Hope you have an awesome time Croozengal!

Thanks! It’s our first HAL & our first Alaskan, so we are super excited! I will be sure to upload some dailies for you!

If you don’t get a response sooner, I will be on her in 6 days and will be happy to grab a shot of the wine list(s) for you! [emoji8]

  16. When I am too full by dinner time ( like always), I always order the dinner salad on the menu in the main dining room. They usually contain some sort of meat, have dressing on the side and are very tasty. So while these are composed salads instead of the wonderful self-created ones at the Lido salad bars, it is a nice option to have to still enjoy the main dining room for dinner.

Keep in mind the salad bar is on both sides of the Lido so keep walking if you think the line at one is too long- they do move quickly but there is such an array to choose from it can slow it down a bit. I also like the ready-fixed Kale Caesar salad at the pizza station. And they also have a very good Mediterranean salad there too with olives, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese.

You can also make a salad of sorts at the nacho bar since they have shredded lettuce, tomatoes, chopped onions and various chopped fruit or corn salsas. Not quite the same, as they are not as cold and crisp as they are in the salad bar. But do make good nacho toppings to pretend one is getting their vegetables ...along with the chips and sour cream. (See why I am always full by the time dinner comes around?)

Sounds like we have a nice variety of options! Thanks so much!

  17. Croozengal, if you like salads, there's a fantastic salad station in the Lido, where a server will make a salad, as large as you'd like, with all your favorite things. It's my go-to lunch area on HAL's ships.

For delicious burgers, try the Dive-In, which is located near the covered Lido pool, just outside the doors to the Lido. Close to the Dive-In is where you'll find the nacho station.

    Okay, I've made myself hungry!

LOVE salads!! Especially for lunch, this is all getting me even more excited (and yes, hungry!) haha

  18. You are going to Alaska, so maybe don't count on this. Plus moving ships are windy outdoors. If you have a late departure and are in port, that might be a time for dining al fresco. Inside your snug cabin with the floor to ceiling balcony window door may be a next best thing.

Bring some battery operated "candles" and you could make it special anyway. (!!!!Do not under any circumstances bring any other candle!!!!)

Thanks for the info! Great points!! This my first cool-weather cruise. Haha
