  1. I'm not a formal gown type of person. Probably a combination of not feeling I look that good, not wanting to spend so much money, and also knowing that I'll never wear it again. Add it all up, and I want to wear pants. I've got black rayon/silk-type palazzo pants and a somewhat fancy top.

How many of you prefer pants? Any pictures?

We will be on a Princess cruise of the Baltic with 2 formal nights. On past Princess cruises, I've seen it all on formal nights, from casual pants to Princess Grace dresses.

I'll try to get a picture of me.

I like your site....you sound like a good group....

  2. Danish Viking,

We'll be in Copenhagen for 4 days , Aug. 31 - September 3. On one of those days, we want to spend an entire day at the Open Air Museum, Frilandsmuseet. We aren't planning on renting a car, but we are willing to, if that would be a better way to be able to see and wander around the entire place.

If we don't rent a car, how do we get there? We're staying at the Bethel.

Once there, is it walkable, or should we have a car? Do you recommend a specific car rental agency?

    Thanks very much,

    Sue

  3. I know about the free tours in Tallinn, but the reviews were quite contradictory and I thought the tours depended on the guide very much and the guide was always different. The guide we hired was recommended to us by a company, which we already knew could be trusted, so we were sure the guide would be nice. Also we did not want to join a group. It was our second cruise and on the first cruise we just walked in Tallinn on our own. We found the Old Town absolutely charming and on the second trip we wanted a tour to learn more about it. But we thought a group tour would not be in harmony with the character of the city. And that was true. With a private guide we were able to walk around at a comfortable paste, avoid places that were too much crowded and then return there when the big groups would leave. We liked the tour very much (especially all the stories about the ghosts in the old houses :)).

Actually I should say that after St. Petersburg Tallinn was the city we liked most.

Could you share with us the name of your private guide in Tallinn and what the cost was?

    Manyhanks,

  4. Danish Viking,

I've been trying to figure out our transportation myself, but I've only gotten more and more frustrated. Can you help us?

    1. From airport, we're going to Wakeup Borgergade for one night, prior to starting the cruise the next day. Should we take the metro - M2 to Kongens Nytorv, then either walk (if it's a short walk) or get a taxi?

    2. From Wakeup Borgergade, what is the best way to get to Norreport, to catch Bus 25 to Oceankaj?

    3. After the cruise, we plan to spend 4 days in Copenhagen. We're staying at the Bethel. From reading the other posts, I'm not sure what to do. Should we take Bus 25 to Norreport, then a taxi to the hotel? Or, what?

Sorry I'm so bad with this. Along with everyone else I really appreciate all the help you've given.

Forgot to say that we travel from hotel to cruise terminal on August 20 and we return to port on August 31.

  6. We want to take the train in Nynashamn to either the Vasa Museum or The Royal Palace first thing when we arrive. One thread I read talked about 3,000-plus people rushing off the ship and getting on the train.

does anyone have any experience as to how crowded or possibly full the train will be? We arrive on Saturday, August 29. Any suggestions?

Also, is the Stockholm Central stop on the island where Gamla Stan, City Hall and the Royal Palace are?

    thank you!

  7. We will arrive via the Regal Princess on Saturday, 29 August 2015. When the tender brings us to the coast, will your cottage with information be nearby? Is the train station still a 10-20 minute walk? And, do they have a different schedule on Saturdays?

Back in your original post in 2011, you mentioned a shuttle bus. Is that still in operation? If so, how does that work?

    Thank you

  8. We had booked dogsledding with Temsco in Juneau. They picked us up at the designated location and time (9:30 am), drove us out for 10 minutes to their offices...and then told us the flight was cancelled due to weather. It was very rainy that day. And yet, there were lots of people there getting ready to go on helicopters for a glacier fly-over and walk. Temsco said we could do the glacier walk instead, which made us think that we were cancelled because nobody else had booked the combo helicopter fly-over and dogsledding. We declined their offer and got our money refunded.

The next day in Skagway, we went to a tour concession at the end of the pier and were able to sign up for dogsledding on the Denver glacier. Interestingly, it was with the same company...Temsco. It was fabulous and the highlight of our cruise.
