  1. This email I received today from Celebrity clearly states 3 days.

    Dear Guest,

We look forward to welcoming you aboard Celebrity Millennium® for your 7-Night Alaska Dawes Glacier cruise departing August 13, 2021, from Seattle, Washington. Before we set sail, we would like to provide an additional reminder that Celebrity Cruises has established enhanced COVID-19 testing requirements for both vaccinated and unvaccinated guests.

All guests over the age of two, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test result at the time of embarkation. This test may be taken as either a PCR test or an Antigen test, conducted within three days of embarkation. Each guest is responsible for making their own arrangements with an accredited testing provider as well as covering all associated costs. Guests arriving at the terminal without a negative COVID-19 test result may be denied boarding.

Unvaccinated children between the ages of 6 months and 11 years of age will be required to take an additional PCR test at the terminal prior to embarkation, and on the day before disembarkation. A registration link for required testing will be sent separately. Should a guest be unable to complete the testing requirements, a 100% refund or Future Cruise Credit will be offered.

We apologize for any inconvenience. The health and safety of everyone onboard is our number one priority. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Celebrity Cruises at 1-844-418-6824 in North America or (316) 554-5961 worldwide.

    Sincerely,

    Celebrity Cruises

  2. This is an email I received from Celebrity in response to an email I sent last week:

    Hello,

Thank you for your response to my email I have updated your information.

At this time testing is required prior to arrival for all guests over the age of two. Unfortunately we don’t have a testing facility at the pier you will have to make arrangements pre sailing. We are allowing PCR OR Antigen testing. While most PCR tests do require 24-48 hours, antigen tests are usually given results same day often within 15 minutes.

The information they have given us states the test must be taken within 72 hours of embarkation. We have been advised that as long as it was done the 3 days before it will be accepted at the pier. I would suggest maybe doing your test as late in the day as possible if it would make you more comfortable.

If you don’t have your test results prior to boarding unfortunately you may be denied boarding.

    Thank you,

  3. I received this email today which would indicate the vaccination requirement is still in place for sailing to Alaska:

    Dear Guest,

Thank you for booking your vacation with Celebrity Cruises. We look forward to welcoming you onto Celebrity Millennium on 08/13/21. We are following CDC guidelines of sailing with 95% of our guests being fully vaccinated. As such we will required all guests 12 years of age and older to be fully vaccinated. Can you please respond to this email and tell me if all guests on this booking will be fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to your sail date? If guests are vaccinated are there any mix of manufacturers in the doses?

    Thank you,

  4. When we stopped in Flam we did take the train and enjoyed it. Afterwards we still had a half day left to find something to do. In the area of the train station there is a tourist office. We went in and purchased tickets for a boat ride that took us up the river, for some incredible scenery. Plus it was fun to visit with other travelers from all over the world. At the end you get off and can poke around the little village. We then got on a bus and it took us back to where the ship was docked. For us it was the highlight of Flam, it was unplanned, inexpensive and as I said previously, the scenery was amazing.

  5. And for future cruise travels, I would suggest not to book with a s ship that berths at Nynäshamn instead of Stockholm.

You will miss the archipelago sail through and travelling will be a hassle.

Sailing through the archipelago is incredible and was one of the highlights of our Baltic cruise.

  6. biggerrbearmom, you should be back from your trip, we go in October, any help you can give me?

Yes, we got off the Baldur two weeks ago. Due to issues with a barge hitting a sandbar and low water levels we ended up docked in Passau from Friday to Sunday in an industrial dock. On Sunday we were bussed to Nuremberg where we boarded the Baldur for the continuation of our trip. I must say, Viking handles things quite well and kept us informed.

Salzburg: it was a full and long rainy day. Even with the rain we really enjoyed our day and are glad we made the decision to go. The included lunch with singers serenading us with music from the Sound of Music was lovely. I only wish that we had more time to explore on our own.

This was our first Viking Cruise and we are totally sold on the Viking product and already planning our next voyage.

  7. I live in Northern California and there is no difference in my service from AT&T to T-Mobile. My monthly bill for two phones with ATT was $120 a month which did not include an international plan. T-Mobile is $50 for one line and $70 for two lines and those prices are out the door, taxes included. I had tried on numerous occasions to get a lower plan with AT&T and to no avail. We have a son who lives in Sweden, we travel a lot and it’s important to us to have an affordable international plan while traveling.

  8. For those with AT&T, which we use because it has pretty extensive support through most of Europe, we get a program that cost $10/day of use. I turn off my iPhone and use emails and other Apps via WiFi, but when I want to call and talk, I’ll call and it costs me $10 to use the phone for 24hrs, including texts. So I select which day(s) i’m going to use it, and then make numerous calls and texts. I then turn it off and don’t use it until I’m ready to make calls again.

I was told Verizon has that plan, and other carriers probably do also. I leave the plan on my system since it’s only activated when I make international calls.

    Just another option.

The AT&T plan is good if you are on a short trip and don’t need to use your phone daily. The current trip we are on is five weeks in duration. When traveling for longer trips such as ours it becomes cost prohibitive. Even for the portion of our vacation on the river cruise I used my phone a lot for directions while we were in port.

For me, it just made sense to make the switch to T-Mobile.

  9. We just got off the Viking Grand European itinerary on Sunday and we are now in Sweden for three weeks. Prior to leaving for our trip last month, I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile. We had been with AT&T since our first cell phone. We travel a lot and I was tired of paying their exorbitant rates for international coverage. My T-Mobile plan is $50 a month which includes unlimited data and text while traveling international. It served us well while traveling in Hungary, Budapest and Germany. There were only a few places along the river where service was spotty. Check it out, you can’t beat the plans that T-Mobile offers.

  10. I just got off of the Viking Baldur today. We were on the Grand European itinerary. I struggled with spending the money for the veranda cabin. I believe it was $900 more per person than the French Balcony. We loved having the view and fresh air, that being said we did not actually sit on our balcony more than a few times. We will do another Viking river cruise but we will likely save the money and book a French Balcony. The open window and view, for me, is the most important thing. It is true that many days in port your view is blocked by another boat but one is not generally in their room when in port.

  11. We are on our last day of a Viking 14 day cruise. We began in Budapest two days before our cruise began and stayed at Hotel Moments. Our hotel was wonderful, in a great location and came with a fantastic breakfast. We used points to pay for it but it would have been $175 a night as we were in a junior suite. The concierge pre-arranged our airport pick up. It was around $50 for a sedan but they had access to larger vehicles for larger groups. We saved a lot by not going through Viking.

  12. A few years ago we used Connexxion Shuttle from AMS to The Renaissance. It’s a shuttle that runs to all the hotels, you pre-book it online and I believe we paid about 15 euros per person. It runs on the half hour, loads up and leaves. No waiting or driving around until it’s full. They load your luggage for you and drop you off at the door of your hotel.

  13. I just want to a good word for ALLA tours. We booked a private tour for three days in SP and it was amazing. We found three other couples from our roll call and went in together and had three days of really wonderful tours. As someone else mentioned, you will be exhausted at the end of each day!
