  1. Hi we are going on Magnificent fjords next July. Day 1 set sail at 1600hrs, Day 2 sea day, Day 3 Flåm at 0800hrs..... Having looked on google earth it looks like Flåm is quite far into the Fjords so my question is for anyone who has been on this cruise- will we enter the fjords during the sea day? Or will it be during the night and therefore wake up to already being in Flåm? Obviously hoping during the sea day as would love to sit out on deck taking in the scenery. Thank you

  2. We booked early on a price we thought was good and were willing to pay. But......i just couldn't help myself by keep going back to website to check prices. It was to convince myself we had a good deal and i was pleased with myself when initially the price went up. However, the cruise was advertised a few days ago with a deluxe cabin being just £50 more than what id paid for an inside plus! Playing all ignorant I phoned the TA and asked how much it would cost to upgrade from inside plus to a deluxe. Naively i was thinking maybe not much considering what id seen on webite- not likely- i was quoted over £600 !!!! So im sticking with my original cabin which im happy with and sure will be absolutely fine - just thought if i could bag a bargin i would go for it.

  3. Thanks for a quick reply much appreciated and useful. Even though we have 188 days to go its our first cruise so i keep thinking of different things to ask. I was originally thinking we will all have a complete brake from the internet for a whole week, but with 2 kids (one an older teenager) and me liking to keep up with the news every day that may be wishful thinking. Thanks again for the info and hope you enjoy your b2b cruises

  4. Hi sorry if asked before but had a look at marella website and have seen that Wi-Fi is available in Wifi zones which is charged to your on-board account. We are not intending to go on the internet a lot- just maybe email home a couple of times. The website doesnt quote any prices so was wondering if anyone has any further info regarding price and wether its worth it. (we will be on the Marella Discovery) Thanks

  5. Hi, we are not going until July on the Marella Discovery (from Port of Tyne) but i like to be well informed/prepared so wanted ask about the embarkation procedure. First cruise for us and have only flown before; so used to airports but not ports. I found airports on the whole ok but stressful at times due to long queues, crowds, waiting and delays etc.

We are arriving the evening before the cruise and staying overnight at the premier inn.

Will the cruise tickets show specific time we should check in/ embark or do we check in then get a specific time to get on the ship? What are peoples experience of the embarkation day ? Has it gone smoothly? Does everyone head to eat lunch and therefore become crowded?

Any information, any advice, or generally what people like to do on that first day will be much appreciated . Thanks

  6. Thanks from me as well Ormy. Im really pleased i made the decision to travel up the night before; especially with this being our first cruise and not knowing the procedure for embarkation first hand. We can now have a leisurely breakfast and maybe wander around the shopping outlet before going to the passenger terminal. Perfect.

  7. Thanks again for all your thoughts on this. We've have decided to drive up the evening before and stay in the North Shields Premier Inn which was a good price. Checked out the route from advice above and Google maps and it looks pretty straight forward. Not used to driving for long periods but im sure i will be fine and will take a break if needed. Also, Thomson say we can book parking through them for the duration of the cruise.

Our first cruise so very excited and I'm keeping my eye on these boards for tips and advice on all aspects of cruising.

  8. Thanks for the input from everyone. The journey will take about 2.5 hours by car for us so not all that long and from what Malch_uk replied earlier seems quite straight forward. Will also weigh up cost of staying in a premier inn (need 2 rooms) to determine wether to go night before or that morning. Still looking at intercruises coach; reviews on other boards seem positive so I'm thinking this is still an option. Decisions decisions........

Thanks for all suggestions and input was all very much appreciated and certainly helped.

It is the magnificent fjords we are going on. Can't wait. My late grandparents went on the fjords when they retired about 30 years ago and I remember them saying how beautiful they were.

  9. Hi we are going on our first cruise next July sailing from Newcastle on Marella Discovery. We live in the Midlands and are considering options to get to the port. We are both at work the day before the cruise and don't like the idea of driving up on the morning. Therefore, we are thinking coach is the best option. Does anyone have any experiences with Intercruises coach company? Do they have toilets on board/ make stops as we are traveling with children.

Any other options/ advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

  10. Hi. I've booked our first ever cruise for the Norwegian Fjords on Marella Discovery next July. I'm considering buying husband binoculars for a gift this Christmas; thinking they would be great for our cruise. However, with the scenery being so large scale do we really need them? What do others think - are they worth buying/ taking?

    Thanks
