  1. DaveOKC,

Thanks for posting this I just check and both my DW's and my account are missing our Feb 2006 cruise on the Maasdam out of Norfolk.

    Krazy Kruizers ,

Thanks for the suggestion, we will print ours out once it get rectified.

    Aren't software upgrades great.

  2. This is hoping you do not need the wheel chair. However last year we needed one for DW on our 23 day cruise to Australia and the rental was over $500 so I contacted a friend of ours who used a wheel chair full time and she said you can buy them from Walmart, target, etc for a little over $100 so that is what we did and it worked out great. We will be using it again in a few weeks when we go to Alaska.

  3. Not Crew News but I've done this cruise a few times and my husband uses a scooter. The shuttle is your regular Grey Line type bus with luggage bays. The lines move quickly and they have several running at a time to start with. Every time we've boarded one to come back in Anchorage there's been one waiting. They don't wait for it to fill but rather run on a schedule. The luggage bay holds his scooter and there are a few reserved seats at the front of the bus for the mobility impaired. My DH can walk up the steps with no problem so it's easy for him to do. The only thing we had last year was that we were told that there were certain times that those in wheelchairs and scooters would have problems boarding and that was because of tide fluctuations. We got back and the promenade deck was below the pier level and we had to duck under the lifeboat getting back on!

Thank you for posting this, as DW is using a wheel chair and we had been wondering about the transportation. Last year in Ketchican I got a tide table (NOAA web site) to ensure we came back during low tide so there wasn't much of ramp angle to get back on.

  4. I had a good brick and mortar TA for years and seeing how many b ookings we gave them, we got great service. Internet TA's killed his business and he shut down. There is no other local TA I want to deal with. My long time, PCC retired...........

    So ---

I am left with no cruise.

Sail, I emailed our PCC's name and ext to you if you would like to check her out. The email will be from garysuzy@******

  5. In trying to book a cruise I couldn't find any place to enter my mariner number. Did I miss a field? I hate HAL's new booking site.

No you did not miss a field, it gets your Mariner number from your log in and there is no field to input a mariner number for any of those traveling with you. The other thing it did was not ask for middle names (if you have one) which are required for travel. These have all been added by our PCC. Once that was done some of the check-in documents were automatically populated with the correct information based on the mariner number.

  6. I'm pretty new here...what is a PCC? I assume it's a travel agent? And what you describe sounds like a travel agent computer problem, not a HAL problem unless I missed something? My TA booked a cruise for me this morning with no issues whatsoever so the HAL website was working fine at that time.

As stated by Jokerstef PCC is personal cruise consultant who are like TA's but work for HAL. The fact that I could see cabins she could not see is a problem. It means if you book through the PCC and ask for a specific cabin they may think it is not available when it really is. Hopefully, the information on this that the PCC forwarded to her management will get the IT folks to fix it.

We have had this PCC for a few years and she has always done a great job for us and has always solved any issues we have had.

  7. Sail,

Sorry to hear you have not found a replacement cruise.

We would not have booked this cruise if not for the PCC, we have really good one and has provided great service.

A good TA or PCC is worth their weight in gold - just for keeping the stress away.

  8. Today we attempted to book a cruise through our PCC and learned the following:

We could see available cabins that she could not see.

PCC manager attempted to fix the problem so the PCC could book the cruise - no luck

After ~30 to 40 minutes I was asked to book the cabin myself

During the booking I relayed all my keystrokes to my PCC and she submitted the process I used to her Manager.

while booking I noticed I could not enter my DW Mariner Number (PCC had to enter it later)

When attempting to check out I had to enter my credit card info 4 times before the system accepted them. I was not able to verify my booking.

PCC is having the booking assigned to her so she can fix any other problems that come up.

The PCC saved this booking for HAL and we thank her for everything she has done for us.

PCC was able to send us a booking verification.

PCC is going to work with her Manager to find a solution for this problem.

If it is going to be this hard to book cruises HAL will be losing customers.

  9. Finally tried this "New" web site, did the following after it was up

    Already Booked

    Manage Booking

comes up this a split page either or sign in or put in booking number, if you sign in the system it takes you to a enter booking number page, entered booking number and it just sits there and does nothing. If you log out and come back in and do not sign in you get the same split page and put in just the booking you get that booking however if you have multiple bookings you have to close the site and re-open it to get to the next booking number.

I think microsoft must be the designer of this site.

  10. Last year HAL was $1,000 cheaper than the airlines, this year they were $500 more than the airlines. I believe it is a matter of when you book your flights and the class of service you request.

  11. Yes IMO there are fewer and fewer individuals participating in Roll Calls. As for M&G's it has always been hit and miss, I set one up and 76 people said they would be there, the Captain, Bar Manager, and Hotel Manager all came ant only 21 people showed up. This is more of an individual integrity thing if you say you are going to be some where then either come or let people know you can't make it.

  12. We will be taking the Quest April 14, 2019 (Circle Japan) and since this is our first time we have some basic questions.

    1. Can you bring your own wine aboard without a corkage fee?

    2. Departure port says Tokyo and Disembarkation port says Tokyo (Yokohama) since there are multiple ports for Tokyo is the departure point also Yokohama?

    3. Is it true that Azamara does not have handicap accessible cabins? DW needs a wheel chair currently but may need a scooter by next year. Told this to the Azamara agent when we booked and he stated there are not accessible cabins on the Quest.

    Thanks for your assistance.

  13. We're embarking in San Francisco and Disembarking in Auckland NZ.

Having just gone through getting set up for our South Pacific Crossing let me share what we did.

    1. Filled in the special needs form that is on HAL's web site.

    2. Called PCC about a wheel chair while on board - HAL will not supply them.

    3. Contacted Special Needs at Sea about renting a chair for 23 days one way to Australia - Special Needs informed us it would be $478 for the 23 days.

    4. Talked to another passenger and her DW actually purchased a wheelchair for WalMart for ~ $110 dollars, and then they will always have it.

    5. Went on line for WalMart and ordered a "Drive sport I" for ~114.00 it was delivered to our home in 4 days. This way we will have the wheelchair if needed and if we have to leave it in Australia it is still cheaper than the $478 quoted by SpecialNeedsAtSea.com

    Hope this helped.

  14. The first captain's message was that we can expect severe weather with 20' seas tomorrow much of the day.

That's to make up for the glass smooth crossing in the Bering Sea in May. Have a great time. We also went back to Alaska in Aug on the Eurodam and the Lido was quite different than the Volendam's.
