  1. Curacao has beautiful beaches, but your looking at $100 or so round trip for a cab ride, and admission to a beach which was included in our cab fair. Need to take a ride to see the nice beaches in Curacao. Basically our cab driver dropped us of, and asked when we wanted to be picked up. He showed up a little early while I was at the beach bar so I had a beer with him.

  2. I doubt that that would occur as the food quality and service in the MDR was still quite good when RCI first introduced the specialty restaurants. Then it was offered as an option that took a while to gain momentum as it seemed that many people didn't see the need or were reluctant to pay the premium as most of them had only a few tables filled - at least in our experience. The quality of the MDR IMO started to decline long after the specialty restaurants were already well established. In our case it was only then that we first tried them, several years after they were introduced.

If it was intentional strategy to cheapen the basic product to then add the alternatives for a fee, it was a rather long term strategy that had the cart before the horse with the alternatives in place long before the quality in the MDR changed.

This is why we started to do the speciality restaurants, but still goto the MDR for lobster, and lamb shank nights.

  3. Not sure how long you have been cruising, but even with the added costs, cruising today is much cheaper than years ago, especially when you figure in inflation. While it sucks to pay more money than you want, in the end, you are still getting a huge value imo.
Been cruising close to 30 years, first cruise was as a kid with my parents. It's the little charges here and there they get annoying. Similar to when flying luggage use to have a weight limit of 75-100 pounds, and was included in the flight fair. Now it went down to 50 pounds, and you have to pay for it. People are going to still fly, and still cruise.

Just wonder what amenities they'll take away, and what that was free will they charge for. I remember you use to have a bowl in your bathroom with toothpaste, mouthwash, motion sickness pills, and other stuff. Those days are long gone for non suite rooms.

  4. Better of with Wi-Fi you know what the cost will be. If you have Wi-Fi calling, than you can call, text, and email just using data.

Made calls before on a Cruise ship was very expensive, and horrible quality. There was such a delay, felt like 7 seconds or so, after I said something before the other person responded. Not sure if they have improved lately. Recently I just do everything over ships wifi, it just works fine for me.

  5. My DH isn't allowed to drink because of medication he takes (blood thinners). I normally would buy the beverage package but NO WAY I'm paying for 2 just so I can have it. I'll just pay as I go. And probably still make out financially.

BTW, try Celebrity. They don't have this stupid rule. Sadly, we're booked on RCCL for a Christmas cruise. It will be our last . . . for a number of reasons including this one.

I called, and got a exception, rep didn't give me any issues. Didn't have to get a soda package either, for other guest. Just got the deluxe beverage, with Wi-Fi package.

  6. Yes, It has been $8.99 onboard and pre-booking. Starting Jan 2018 pre-booking is $19.99. Royal Caribeen agents were not even aware of price increase until they looking into it and compared Dec 2017 and Jan 2018 cruises. The price increases for January 2018 cruises, and possibly other fees increasing like new room service charges I previously mentioned in post. I am going to research what other services and activities they are increasing and may post a price comparison of findings on this and other cruise sites. Their increasing prices after we booked this ship rubs me wrong and as much as I am excited to take our group of friends, who have never sailed before, on Harmony, I would have booked on another cruiselines new ships in hindsight which just makes me feel burned by Royal.

I curious to know, what will be increasing to. I first started sailing on Carnival long time ago being young, and it was the fun / party cruise line. Continued going because of friends, but kept noticing quality just wasn't what it use to be, while prices rising. This year went on the Harmony, Allure, and Harmony again next week. Really enjoyed my time on these ships, and had a great time on them.

I guess this is what happens when accounts move up into management. Hopefully this trend doesn't continue.

  7. I just combine my prescriptions together in one or two bottles, my insurance company wants me to get 3 months of supplies at a time. An I have schedule II prescriptions, and have never had a issue. Only time I ever did was going to six flags and they went through my bag and saw a pill in a container. Basically told them I take if my back starts to hurt going down the water slides. If it doesn't then I don't.

What a friend recommended to me, and I do now for all my trips is take a picture of the latest prescription bottles. With all prescription information visible, and that is usually enough.

  8. I'm always excited to go to Cozumel, just so I can go eat at La Choza Address: Calle 10 Norte # 216 | Between Adolfo Rosado Salas and 3rd Sur, Cozumel 77600, Mexico. Best Mexican food I've ever had in my life. I've been lucky enough to eat here 5 times and food and service is always perfect. We loved jet skiing in St. Thomas. The water was stunning. Shopping and lunch in St. Maarten was fun. Senor Frogs is always a party in Nassau, St. Thomas or Cozumel.
Have to remember La Choza, will be in Cozumel in a couple of weeks.

  9. We have been successful avoided this by always using the bathrooms in our cabin, never touching railings and only eating once we have used a sanitizer before picking up the silverware and eating. This means after you have touched the menu. Also sanitize after using the salt or pepper shaker. I keep it on the table so it is easier to remember.
Just want to point since most people think any hand sanitizer will work. Hand sanitizers need a anti-microbial called benzethonium chloride for it to be effective against Norovirus. This virus is one though son of a bitch.

  10. Oh wow, that's fascinating to know those ways to get around buying for multiple devices. I told my husband, who works for a Telco company, and he's going to look into the Note 8. The Travel Router seems like a good option too.

Wifi sharing will work with your s8+ to. Though I forgot to mention the system won't allow you to enable the wifi hotspot when in airplane mode. I use a app called PDAnet that bypasses the system checks, and enables wifi sharing.

  11. If you have a Samsung Galaxy s7 or newer phone you can use Wi-Fi sharing on your phone. I need internet while one board to do some work everyday. So me, and my wife just get one package since she just uses for occasional social usuage. I just enable Wi-Fi sharing on my Note 8. Which allows my wife's phone, and pc to connect, and share the phones Wi-Fi connection to the ship internet.

Another option is you can get a travel router with battery. Were you can connect the router to the ships internet wifi connection, and share the internet with your other devices just like home.

So if a few members of your group are always together than they can share a internet connection that way.

  12. What's that about when the cabins are open? I can't go to my cabin as soon as I board?

Cabins open up after a certain time, never really paid attention to exactly when. The hallway doors leading to the cabin areas will be closed. I gone in a few times while they were still cleaning my room to just drop of my carry on, and put my bathing suit on. Basicly in and out of the room in 3 minutes.
