  1. My wife and I live in a small community. So "Formal Nights" are our opportunity to dress up. I wish they would get rid of the word Formal. I prefer the word dapper, hence my user name. For instance on the formal night I might wear black shoes, gray dress slacks, a black belt, black dress shirt, a gray bow tie, and a cream jacket. Not exactly black tie, but I really feel quite dapper.

To those who continue insist that black tie is the only way to go, I say, stuff it.

The only person that matters when deciding what to wear on Formal Nght is you. Wear what makes you feel dapper, dare I say.

  2. I'll be sailing the Baltic in June. Just happened to be going to NYC in February, so we were looking at Broadway and purchased tickets for Anastasia. That got me wondering if anyone has read any good books lately that may peak my setting for the cities I will visit in June. I'm not looking for historical or travel books. More of a fiction (thriller/spy/romance) that just takes place in/around the Baltic.

I know its a long shot, but I thought I'd put it out there.

    Thanks

    Hi Linda

When were the formal nights on your 14 night Baltic cruise?

  3. Thank you to cb at sea for your response. I do have a confirmation email from WMPH, which is the name of my TA, showing itinerary, payment, names of travelers, etc, and, at the bottom of the email a statement saying

    Offer Details:

This cruise includes the following bonus offer:

Exclusive Offer: Free Gratuities on Balconies & Suites

I was concerned because Royal Caribbean apparently doesn't know anything about WMPH's offer when I provided them (Royal Caribbean) with my reservation code and asked about the free gratuities. I chose WMPH over other TA's because of this offer!

    Thanks again.

PS. BTW, WMPH is supposed to stand for We Make People "Happy" (emphasis added). They definitely are not making me happy. Next time, I'll ask all questions before paying (to a different TA).

Dare I say, do it yourself next time.

You book your cruise first then figure out how many days you want to spend pre-cruise and post-cruise, then book your flights. Then get any medical coverage you require. You will be sent all confirmations via e-mail. No third party involved and you what has been done and what has not been done. And, everything can be budgeted accordingly.

  4.

Could anyone be so kind as to the expected/actual dress code on formal night. Our cruise is out of Rome for 21 days. We are traveling from Toronto nada and want to limit any unnecessary baggage if possible. Do not want to be the only business casual guy on formal nights either.

Rather than dressing down my wife and I prefer to dress up. Now this does not mean a tux for me. I take a cream dinner jacket, light brown slacks, dark blue slacks, and medium gray slacks. 4 dress shirts for each pair of slacks. and three bow ties. So we could dress up dapper for as many nights as we like. I prefer the word dapper (hence my user name) to the word formal. And, of course, as others have noted, you do not have to go formally at all. My wife and are from a small community and do not get the chance to dress up many times. So our preference is to treat ourselves and go "dapper". Ron L.

  5. I see that you are cruising around South America in February of 2018. Make sure you take a really warm jacket for the south half of SA. My wife and I were on this cruise for xmas and new year of 2016. My wife took a warm Canadian jacket, with a hood, good for -40 degrees Celsius. She could have sold it many times over for a neat profit. The average temperature is 10 degrees Celsius. And, the winds are extremely ferocious. The jacket was a cumbersome extra load, but worth all the effort.

  6. The important signage is also in English' date=' but learn the basic Danish words as well. It makes navigation easier. Also figure out how they are pronounced, so you know when your stop is announced. (Learned that the hard way in Germany!)

In the kiosks you need a chip and pin card. If your card is chip and signature, you will have to go to a ticket clerk. If the ticket is cheap, I just use cash.

I can't answer the other specific questions. Hopefully somebody else can.[/quote']

Thank you for the insight. I do have a chip and pin card so I should be alright there. And, I will learn some Danish.

  7. Welcome to Cruise Critic!

There is an portion of Cruise Critic devoted to Copenhagen, located here:

    https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=192

I would ask your questions there, as there are locals active on the board who will be very knowldgable.

Yes, a lot of the signage is in English. You will need a PIN and chip credit card for the ticket.

Thank you. I was not quite sure where to ask the question. I have found the Danish Viking.
