  1. I didn’t read all questions or posts on this thread but are the beach chair free of charge or do they charge for using them? If so, how much?

And are there any umbrellas too? Thx.

  2. We're in room 8602, directly for 4 floors from you. This room only has a pull out sofa. And not like the regular pull out sofa type. The seat slides out and the back folds down, so there is no mattress, u are sleeping on the cushions basically

Ummm... that doesn’t sound too comfortable. My poor hubby...:-|

  3. But your original post said you had two twins and a sofa bed. That’s what you booked. You did not book a cabin with two pullmans and I think you know it. In any event, you need to reserve a pack and play for the baby and put the toddler on the sofa bed. Problem solved. As Bob said, even if you had a Pullman, your children would be too young to use it.

I didn’t book it that way. It’s a “Guarantee” category balcony room. That’s what we ended up with right now.

Why would my toddler be too young to use a Pullman? My toddler is used to sleep on a bunk bed on the top level when we go on vacation.

If we had at least one Pullman, hubby could sleep on it and toddler on sofabed but I guess that would be a 5-passenger cabin.

Anyway, it is what it is and we will deal with what we have.

  4. But you ARE getting two twins (that can be put together to make one full). Were you expecting four twins? How old are your children? Would two adjoining cabins work? Or maybe an inside across the hall? I see you are only about two weeks out so not sure what might still be available or at what price.

Yeah, was expecting 4 twins. We cruised on Princess a few years ago and got two twins and 2 Pullman’s. Didn’t expect a sofa bed and sofa beds are usually super uncomfortable.

Most likely I’ll be with the baby on the twins pushed together and hubby and toddler were supposed to get each a twin. My toddler doesn’t sleep well if sharing a bed... nor does hubby sleep well if he’s with our toddler as he kicks and moves A LOT during the sleep...

  5. We've only had the one sea day and it was very windy, raining, and cool. But since then it's been very nice. Actually, cooler than I'm used too, but very nice. And by cooler I mean mid 70's. Balconies are usually fine, we didn't experience any wind on our balcony, just a lil rain.

Ooh... that is indeed very cool (literally).

    Thanks. :)

  6. It's a twenty minute walk to the center of Philipsburg from the cruise pier - which is on Great Bay - there are a number of open restaurants and chair and umbrella rentals. The problem is the water is known to be polluted by run-off from the built up area around town. If you just want to sit on the beach: fine; if you want to swim, I would suggest taking a taxi to Mullet Bay.

Ok. Thx. That’s probably the beach you can see from the ship when it docks on in Philipsburg.

  7. We are in our 60s and have walked to both forts during cruise stops.

Are the forts worth visiting with small children? We won’t have much time in SJU as we have to be back on the ship by 2 pm. Thinking of rather walking around the old town I.e. shopping and lunch instead? Thanks.

  8. Take a water taxi down town and grab a few beach chairs. All come with umbrellas and usually a bucket of beers or waters. The water is great and lots of restaurants. Sometimes you’ll get a lot of people selling things just keep saying no. And there is a public bathroom that charges $0.50 to use. Overall I find this better than taking the 30-40 min ride to the other beaches.

    Sounds good.

What is considered downtown? Is there a name for it?

  9. Based on my most recent visit, I would recommend Mullet Bay. It is very nice to visit with children and has plenty of umbrellas and chairs. There is no restaurant there, but there are some people selling bar-b-que right off the grill and drinks from a ice filled cooler. The beaches themselves are fine post hurricane, it is the shops and restaurants that are not back yet.

A taxi for 10 should not be an issue. Most taxis and busses can easily fit ten people. And you can arrange for your driver to come back and pick you up at a set time as well. Maho Beach is another option with existing restaurants and of course the planes, but the beach not big and I would not want to take little children there to have a beach day.

Kim Sha Beach is used by the cruise lines for their excursions, but it looked crowded when we drove past and there were only 2 ships in port that day. Simpson Bay Beach is also one that gets good reviews post hurricane, but I have not personally been there so I can't give a recommendation.

Thank you. Mullet Bay sounds like a good option. I looked at the pictures before the hurricane. Have yet to find any post Irma.

Are there any change room facilities by any chance? If not, it’s not a big deal but thought I throw it out there. :)
