Here is a spreadsheet I offer often. Someone out here put it together and it is helpful for deciding if it's worth it to you. I like getting Cheers. I can pre-pay and not worry about that bill at the end. I can get a different drink if I'd like and not feel guilty. No melting frozen drinks for me!

My thoughts exactly ricew001! I also like to try  different drinks while cruising. I don't feel like I have to finish the drink if I find it too sweet or otherwise not to my liking. And only the better wine for me :classic_biggrin:

  2. Like it or not I have brought booze on board numerous times on various cruise lines, including Carnival. Using Rum Runners or similar I have never had a problem. There is a specific way I stack them in my luggage but I don't want that secret to get out.

FYI....I always buy the drink package so I'm not "stealing" from the cruise line. I just like to enjoy cocktails in my cabin without having to run up to the bar. Admittedly I am violating my ticket contract but otherwise I am a pretty good passenger and I treat the crew well.

  3. Just booked the 10 day package May 2019 with Celebrity Xploration through Global Travel Destinations/Direct Travel. Celebrity's package includes 7 days Galapagos plus 2 nights Quito hotel pre cruise and 1 night post cruise with meals, tour of Quito, RT airfare Quito to Baltra, all ground transfers, park fees, gratuities, on board beverages including alcoholic, and wet suits. Plus a Celebrity host meets you at airport to help you with ground transfers.

  4. If only two people, just get early check in for one if money is an issue. Then they can save a seat for other person.

I personally have not done this, but known others who have.

And since seat saving is frowned on, i would only save one

I would be one of those frowning. Pay the extra $24 for the additional Early Bird. And as long as I am being grumpy.....what is the big deal about having to sit together on a plane unless the other person is a small child?

  5. The quiet ambiance of a library and the possibility that you will discover a n delightful author or book previously unknown to you. I learned long ago the joy of reading a few paragraphs of a new book and discovering that I wanted to read more by this writer. That is not possible on ebooks because most people don't buy/borrow books with which they are unfamiliar.

Are you not familiar with sample downloads? You can download a sample of almost any book with no commitment to purchase. Allows you to read several pages to an entire chapter of a book to determine if it appeals to you. And then there are the searches and recommendations you will find in the online Kindle store. You can discover a vastly greater number of books than working your way through the library stacks.

  6. That is simply not true. Actually it is much easier to find any mention of a character in a ebook. On the Kindle if you touch the characters name it will bring up a list of all texts involving that specific character.

I think some people who are opposed to electronic reading devices have not explored using them. I am on my fifth reading device. Each one I get is an improvement upon the prior generation. They are wonderful in low light situations or when my eyes are too tired to read tiny print. I just switch to a larger font.

The cruise director I spoke to on the Eurodam at a book club gathering mentioned HAL is investigating having electronic devices available to borrow from their library. He indicated the library would be stocked with travel reference hard books and have the edevices available for other types of literature.

I also like the feature of finding every mention of a character in an ebook as well as these fearures: ability to look up words with built-in dictionary, time left in chapter, percentage completed, electronic highlighting and bookmarking, backlighting for dark environments, adjustable font size, having access to my all my books and last page read across my kindle, tablet and phone.

However, I do prefer hard backs for reference books.

-We enjoyed exploring the cemetery Mansión de Paz in San Miguel, about a mile from the International Pier. It reminds you of New Orleans cemeteries except the crypts are painted in pastels and iguanas are hanging out.

-Visit the MEGA grocery store. Two stories with ramp escalators for shopping carts. Fun seeing all the Mexican products and different versions/flavors of US Products. And the different fruits and vegetables are so colorful.

    - JohninDC's above recommendation to visit the East side beaches is a good one. Several bars/restaurant over there with Chen Rio being the most popular. The sea, surf, and rock formations are beautiful over there. I advise against venturing into the surf, rip tides and jagged rocks.

El Cid la Ceiba next to the International Pier offers day passes. Small, quaint, resort with a pool and spa next to the bar. There is no beach and the activities are limited but it is on the water and snorkeling there is good . You can rent paddle boards and snorkel gear at the dive shop next door. Because of the wifi and proximity to the pier, cruise ship crew members like to go there to relax and blow off some steam.

    PDC

-There is a nice restaurant and lounge in a cave that is a unique experience. ALUX. But it might only be open evenings.

-Stroll down Calle Quinitana in PDC for shopping and dining. You'll hear many other languages as there a good number of European and Slavic tourists who visit PDC (it is not uncommon to see topless sunbathing on the beach). A section of Calle Quintana is closed to traffic so it makes for a nice walk and to venture off on the side streets.
