  1. We have taken the children twice the first cruise for them they were 3 and 18 months.

Ventura had glass balconies and were safe, we just didn't leave the kids out there alone and watch the table for climbing. I think when we were on ocean someone mentioned nets but we didn't get them

We took two buggies and stored them under the beds.

You can't book the night nursery before hand it is first come first serve, but children have to be asleep or settled to go in.

We have never been given priority boarding and my eldest daughter is disabled

  2. On our private tour we had absolute control over destinations and length of stops.

We did have to cut short our Maho stay, though, as there were reports of traffic problems heading back to the port.

Made it back in plenty of time.

We are really considering a private tour over tour 2 now, not so keen on Orient Bay, I like the look of mullet bay and La Galion as well as Maho beach. Also a visit to marigot too. Hoping this is all do-able

Did you tell them where you wanted to go on the day for the private tour or did you email across what you wanted to do?

  3. I've contacted P&O about another matter this morning and happen to mention formal nights when I speaking to them.

This is what they said. as Azura is arriving in Barbados on December 25th and not officially leaving until December 26th, we term this as a New Year cruise and not a Christmas one, therefore all formal nights are over the next 2 weeks aNd not Christmas might.

Dressing up is optional but there will no special menu that night, with the first official formal night being Decemer 27th. Hope that helps. Xx

Kinda glad in a way it isn't formal, not as much stress to get ready ha ha!!!

We had a formal night on embarkation from Southampton on the Royal wedding it was a night mare we had to carry on our formal wear just incase our cases didn't arrive in time, having said that it was still a good night

  4. We arrive in Saint Maarten on Tuesday 29th December. It looks like our ship leaves at 6pm.

We didn't go to Maho beach in 2006 and so we want to go this time. I also love the look of Mullet Bay to was thinking of combining the two together since they are next to each other. Is it a walkable distance from Mullet to Maho?

We also would love to go to the market in Marigot so was thinking of going there first then to the beaches.

Is this all doable? We really like the look of Bernard's tours but not so fussed on Orient beach and prefer mullets. I did look at the private tour option but seems it would be quite expensive to just do these 3 places.

Can anyone advise on taxi prices that are recent? Saw images that said $7 each to Marigot, but can't work out cost to Mullet from there

    Many thanks

  5. Dutch side, St. Maarten or Sint Maarten.

French side, St. Martin or Saint Martin.

    Lucky You!!

You appear to be there on September 15, a Tuesday, and KLM has a 747-400 scheduled to arrive at 10:55, but head to the beach immediately, as I have missed it when it arrived like 40 minutes early.

You have one other ship in port with you, the Disney Fantasy, so I wouldn't expect traffic to be too much of a problem, and would allow about 40 minutes over to Maho by taxi directly from the Cruise Facility. I believe that these prices are still fairly accurate, but may have increased by a dollar or two.

It is possible to get there more cheaply by public bus, and I would encourage you to visit this thread in the St. Maarten discussion board.

I would leave 'early' as traffic really picks up in the afternoon, and has taken as long as two hours to get back to Philipsburg.

There is a bridge opening scheduled for 3:00, so I would head out before 2:30 or after 3:15, as there shouldn't be too many boats transiting your time of visit.

Personally, I would leave early and allow some time for shopping, etc. back in Philipsburg or at the Cruise Facility.

All beaches on the island are Public, but they all charge for chairs and umbrellas.

There are two beach bars at Maho. The well known Sunset Bar and Grill and Guy's Driftwood Boat Bar. We prefer Guy's as it has much lower booze prices. Only a Porta-Potty, though. Sunset has full facilities.

Regarding the Jet Blast, please see my very recent post here.

p.s. We were really considering this exact voyage, but the Grand Turk visit kind of set us off. There was very little there of interest when we've visited previously.

Can you point me in the direction to look for flights arriving? We are in St Maarten Tue 29th Dec. Thanks

  6. So Darkwood is suitable for children?

I originally had down Vallley Church, Jolly Beach and Ffryers beach and now come across Darkwood. Looks like we can catch the #22 bus for all of them?

My mum has mobility problems so I am wondering if she will manage the walk to the bus station, that saying my daughter still needs a buggy/wheel chair so she can push that, can we collapse that for the bus?

  7. In my cruise personaliser. Its has the dates, Although maybe they havnt contacted everyone yet but I had already kinda worked out the dates anyhow and guessed correctly. As thats the only sea days we have, it would most definitely have been these dates.

    Roll on December...:D

It is bugging me now searched the whole of the cruise personaliser and I can't see this information...which section did you find it please?

You'd think it would just update everyone's wouldn't you?

I'm happy with that decision :)

  9. Buffets annoy me so much yet I still end up going there!!!!!

This year we are going to make more use of the MDR for breakfast etc, just to relieve my stress levels!

We have problems finding seating. I have two young children, one is disabled so have no option but to find a table first, then I have to go up and get mine and one child's plate or both of the children's, then repeat to get mine, then hubby can get his.

  10. Also I wonder if the sittings will sit the same and how will it work for those on freedom?

We are on the 8.30 sitting, but I have just realised we will probably get on the ship by 5.30pm, there is a flight 45 minutes later than us flying out from Manchester so they are likely to get on board by 6.15pm, that would be some rush for 6.30pm!!!

  11. saying that we boarded ventura 29th April in 2011 which was the Royal wedding and that was a formal night, some people's cases hadn't arrived at their cabin before their dinner! Again we were second sitting so better for us but still a rush and a faff! Fortunately it was from Southampton and we carried our formal wear on

  12. We also join this cruise on Christmas day. We won't be on board until about 5.30.

We have second sitting at 8.30. I assumed it was formal but hope it isn't in a way. I don't mind eating Christmas dinner late, we don't eat early at home!

  13. Prefer a Friday as it gives you chance to get comfy and adjusted before sailing, also means you land early hours in the UK on a Saturday returning home so gives you two days before back to work/kids to school etc.

Problem for us is we fly Friday 25th December and it is a formal night that night too

  14. I certainly don't agree with people " reserving" sun loungers. It is a selfish attitude that is becoming more apparent in other ways on the ships too ( like reserving seats in theatres, buffet etc)

But what I also struggle with is the apparent obsession to be right by the pool! There are places to sunbathe /lounge all over the ship and in my opinion give a far far more pleasant experience than being packed like sardines (over cooked ones at that!) in a noisy environment.

We have to go close to the pool, I have two young children and one of those is disabled, however I am not willing to reserve a sunbed to get close to the pool - we will just sit on the edge of the pool etc and I watch how long sunbeds are 'reserved' for before deciding to move the items. We also share two sunbeds between 4 of us too.

We always have a balcony which is great when the kids go to kids club, but they get bored sitting there and so want to be by the pool, as we do too at times.
