  1. Can I book direct with Celebrity into a group #, then transfer to a TA (3rd down on the list) to get the better pricing and "all in" promo deal? The group# would include us in a private reception with the 24+ people in our group (10th anniversary of our last group cruise), plus they have a block of cabins reserved. Or do I book direct with TA and give them the group #? None of the rest of the group is gung ho on using a TA, and the organizer of the group gets interline rates. The all in deal would be $40 cheaper, have premium package, and free internet. We upgraded the drink package on our last cruise for the last 2 days and enjoyed it....

  2. Celebrity Summit, December 13, 2014

    CABIN #9133

    DECK #9

    CLASS: Aqua

    AREA: Mid

    BED NEAR: Bathroom

    QUIET?: Very

BALCONY VIEW: Great, liked the overhang out of the sun.

BALCONY SIZE: 50 Square feet, 2 chairs that recline and a round table. Had breakfasst there most mornings :)

    WIND A PROBLEM?: No

    SOOT A PROBLEM?: No

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: No problems at all with cabin. Very convenient location to elevators and stairs to 10 for pool, bar, or buffet. Bathroom had a funny smell, but not annoying, and no mold or dirt anywhere. Hint, to have the fridge get cold, try to leave the cupboard door open to circulate the air around the fridge.

  3. Glass is rimmed with salt & celery salt, ingrediants are Clamato juice, 1 Oz vodka, 10 drops Worchestershire, 2 drops Tobasco, celery stalk as a stir stick. Latest thing is to suspend over the glass on a toothpick a slice of salami folded around a pickle and piece of cheddar cheese. Proof that winters are long and boring in Canada and we need to find ways to amuse ourselves in the curling rink bar...

  4. Booked a Pacific Mexican cruise on the NCL Star. Had a great time, but there was some big flaws. Inside cabins were only 140 SF, and the bed sucked. Bathroom and shower were awesome though! The most annoying was the change in itinerary from Hualtulco-Aculpuco-Zihuatanao-Puerto Vallarta-Cabo to Manzanillo (a true dump of a port)-Mazatlan (excellent stop)-Puerto Vallarta-Cabo with an extra sea day. Change was supposedly due to broken azipod reducing the ships speed. I'm OK with that, but it had been broken for 6 months and you could have actually told me about it when I booked 3 months earlier, and given me the opportunity to book the cruise I really wanted elsewhere...

MDR was just OK, specialty restaurants were very good. Carnival MDR was way better. Looking forward to trying our first X cruise to exceed both these lines....

  5. alcpa1 - that is a very helpfull observation. We have an AQ cabin booked for Dec 13 on the Summit and are arriving in SJU a week early. With todays airline weight restrictions, it is a challenge to haul all our clothing, snorkel equipment, and photography equipment and meet the restrictive baggage allowances on most US airlines, and have enough stuff for 2 weeks. Being CDN we are not used to having to pay for a first bag (let alone a second), and I completely lose it on over weight charges! Not having to pack extra shoes, suits, ties, and dress shirts would help. What do the 2 of you usually wear to dinner at Blu on formal nights, I was thinking collared golf shirt, casual dress pants, black deck shoes. My wife is also fretting about this. I was actually thinking of the Tux rental option to save hassle, but that seems like such a waste.

  6. I'm more concerned about comfort and warmth rather than fashion and style. Tough time of year to pack for with the many different cities we will be visiting. Sort of like travelling between New Orleans and Chicago in late November, might be hot, might be really cold. Do I bring the the Mnaitoba resident winter coat or not?

  7. Hi to those on the Nov. 17th trip. We have not received our package yet so we may be calling G&L in Winnipeg for info. We are from London On. and we will also be arriving in Shanghai on the 15th, (after five days in Hong-Kong) staying at the Central Hotel until the tour starts for us at the Shangri-La. Information package now looks like it won't arrive until just before we leave so would appreciate a "heads-up" if there is anything we should particularly know prior to departure.

    Hi Lene1,

Did you book direct with Viking or through a TA? We booked direct and thus they send the docs to us via Fedex. We received the email from Fedex regarding the shipment and tracking info. If you booked through a TA, the docs are fedexed to them (if they are in Canada). Not sure what happens if you use a US TA and you are from CDA? I would start making calls....

The package does not have anything you can't live without, plastic name tags and lanyards, leather luggage tags (nice!), sorta customized itinery books that confirm hotels, book on where we stop, paper tags for luggage, neoprene half size portfolio to store everything in, stickers for bags. There was no "you have to have this to board the ship" type of stuff.

Still, it was nice to get it when it was expected, so I sympathise....

  8. We booked and paid at least 15 months in advance, as I too was sucked in by the "soon to end" 2 for 1 deal. However, by doing this we saved a lot of dough as the C$ was really strong then, and has fallen by quite a bit. I cancelled my Viking air in June, to do my own thing, and made money on the deal as the refund was in US dollars.

  9. I made a reservation through the website for Thursday November 28th for 2 people and received no confirmation from them. I emailed them a couple of weeks later to confirm, and they emailed back and apologized that they only take large groups on Thursday's, and could I rebook for Wednesday or Friday. I decided we could live without seeing the Chinese Opera, and booked for the Wednesday (we will be flying home on the Friday). After the initial "lack of contact", Michelle at BSK was very helpful. We confirmed the reservation with the phone number of our hotel in Beijing, and she said we would receive a confirmation email 2 weeks before the reservation date. Very excited to try them!

  10. Got our reservation for the Black Sesame Kitchen on November 27th! This is the night we were scheduled for either dinner at the hotel (Westin Chaoyang) or optionally attending the dinner and Chinese Opera performance. I assume we made the right choice? Could not book dinner on the 28th as they only take large parties on Thursdays, 29th did not work as we are flying home that day. Any hints on getting to/from the restaurant from the Westin? Any idea what the total cost is?
