  1. It's soft serve. Either ice cream or yogurt.

    Haven't had any soft serve ice cream that tastes like scooped. Not Carvel. Not Fosters. Not Dairy Queen.

    It is a premade mix. Every once in a while I'll see them pour from the cartons into the machines.

    In some allergy threads there are pix of the ingredients.

    I agree that soft ice cream and scooped ice cream are not the same, but soft ice cream that I am used to getting here at home is creamier and not so icy. I just don't care for it.

  2. Does anyone know what the soft serve "ice cream" really is? Is it ice milk, frozen yogurt, or something else? It doesn't taste creamy like real ice cream.

    Many people love it. I'm always disappointed in it when I try it. It's been 3 years since we cruised, has it changed at all? Thanks, just curious. :o

  3. The Maitre 'D assigns dining times. Diamond gets their choice. Platinum, then FTTF gets priority then everyone else.

    Last cruise we booked 3 weeks ahead , waitlisted for ATD and received late. Went to the MDR when we boarded and was changed to ATD. I think it helped that we were all Platinum.

    Sometimes they cannot change your assignment until the second evening.

    Hmmmm...since this is only our 3rd Carnival cruise, I guess we don't have much clout

  4. When I was on in February it was in the hallway between the casino and the Taj Mahal, not far from the coffee shop. But it was mobile so they could potentially move it.

    Thank you...do you remember if they put it in the Funtimes, or did you have to try to find it?

  5. I'm not sure that you need cancel for any reason coverage for your situation, if the concern is your husband's mother's health.

    Below are a couple sections from a trip we took last year. This was a policy that did have CFAR coverage (75%) as well, and the price for 18 days with an insured value of $2500 per adult was $125 each (5%). The kids (who had lower insured values as 3rd/4th people) were $42 each. A lower-end policy without CFAR was surely cheaper but I don't have any comparison quotes anymore.

    Also note that if you both have coverage his policy would cover his cancellation and yours would cover the single supplement if you did decide to sail alone (or refund yours if you wanted to cancel as well).

    From the policy of the last insured trip I took:

    <under the valid trip cancellation reasons>

    A covered Sickness or Injury involving You, Your

    Traveling Companion or Business Partner, or Your

    Family Member which necessitates Medical Treatment at

    the time of cancellation and results in medically imposed

    restrictions, as certified by a Legally Qualified Physician,

    which prevents Your participation in the Covered Trip;

    <under definitions>

    “Family Member” means Your or a Traveling Companion’s:

    legal spouse or common-law spouse where legal; legal

    guardian; son or daughter (adopted, foster or step); sonin-

    law; daughter-in-law; grandmother; grandmother-in-law;

    grandfather; grandfather-in-law; grandchild; aunt; uncle;

    niece; or nephew; brother, step-brother; sister; step-sister;

    brother-in-law; sister-in-law; mother; father; step-parent.

    Thank you so much John1928. Perhaps that's all we would need the way that policy is worded. Do you mind my asking which company you used? Thanks again for all your help

  6. There is a secret to going to breakfast/brunch too, yes the menu on the sea days is the same regardless of when you show up, but prior to eleven you get a basket of breads (yum) and after 11 you get popovers. I love popovers, haven't had them is over 50 years, am looking forward to a late brunch one day!

    Pardon my ignorance...but what is a popover?:confused:

    Thanks, everyone for the info.

  7. I have just been reading some posts after not being on these boards for some time. We just booked Pride on Aug 3. We have always enjoyed going to the MDR for breakfast and lunch and being served instead of the buffet (after all we're on vacation). Is it now a fleet-wide practice that they just do brunch on sea days? On port days, what meals are served in the MDR?

  8. Cancel for any reason insurance isn't that confusing. The policy I buy costs 50% more than their regular policy. We get 75% cash back if we cancel at least 2 days before our trip start date for any reason not covered by the regular terms. You must buy this insurance within a set number of days after your first trip expenditure and you have to insure all non refundable prepaid expenses.

    It sounds like that would be good for you because of his work situation.

    However, if he cancels for "any" reason, you will not have the single supplement reimbursed if you still go. (Most policies cover that if one person cancels for a reason covered under their standard terms.)

    As far as what are acceptable reasons --- that's the easiest part! You don't even have to give a reason when you file a claim. Your reason can be anything --- from my dog is sick, to it might rain all week, to I just don't feel like going anymore. Of course, since you'll be out money too (25% with the policy I buy), so most people won't cancel for frivolous reasons.

    I hope you can both go!

    Thanks for the info. What brand insurance you you get? The only problem I can see though, is that something could happen the day before, and then you wouldn't be covered, right?

  9. We have just booked a cruise that leaves in 2 weeks. We were wondering if something happens between now and then that prevents my DH from going, can I just go by myself or invite someone else at no extra charge? He has an elderly frail mother who could easily become ill and he runs a business with his brother. If something would happen that his brother cannot work, my DH would have to stay home. I know there is travel insurance, but the price for "cancelling for any reason" is costly and hard to understand what acceptable reasons would be. Thanks for advise.

  10. Thanks for this review. I was wondering how rough the seas were on your way over and back. We have never sailed to Bermuda before and had heard that sailing in that direction can be rough. I get seasick, so I don't know whether or not to consider this cruise.

    Also, what did you do while the ship was docked for a few days in Bermuda?

    Thanks so much!

  11. I have always put them on after I claim my luggage in San Juan. That way by the time I get to the port I am ready to hand my bags over to the porters :)

    Linda,

    How do you attach them? Mine are ones that have been printed on my printer and do not have any sticky side. I covered them with clear packing tape.

    Thanks

  12. This is a dumb question but...for anyone who has flown into San Juan for their cruise...did you put your Carnival luggage tags on before your flight or after? If I do it after then I guess I have to bring a stapler!

    Someone on another thread said that the airport people rip them off if they are on there. I leave today, any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  13. Hi

    I just read a review on Carnival Connections of the Victory cruise in June of this year. The poster said that all the entertainment is in Spanish. Is this true? Are all the live shows spanish? If so we will not understand a thing they are saying:eek:. We look forward to going to the shows in the main theater each night and will miss a lot of what's going on if it's all Spanish.

    Perhaps the poster was meaning that the music was spanish in the bars and clubs.:confused: That we don't care about so much.

    Thanks!

    Laurie
