Can some balcony cabins take 3 on PD?
Balcony cabins only sleep 2.
many thanks for the update karmac!
  2. Hi all....it's been a while but I'm back checking the boards once again. Am I right in thinking that Baja deck on Pacific Dawn has balcony cabins that can take 3 pax in Cat BB, BC & BD? If so, has anyone experienced this configuration & how comfortable was it? We are 2 plus a teenager, so in reality, 3 adults. Cheers!

    Dawn Princess 18th April

Hello all, I will be in Sydney on 18th April, staying at Circular Quay, & would love to see The Dawn Princess coming into port in the wee small hours before her departure later that afternoon for Honolulu...(unfortunately I fly home not long after she docks.) Can anyone give me an idea as to when she might be expected to dock? Thanks! Cheers

Sunday evening 4th of May at Circular Quay

Hi Bob! I haven't been on here for ages...takes me hours to catch up on all the 'happenings'! I notice you're doing the Qld. coast...I'm in Cairns & unfortunately work Tuesdays otherwise I'd always be down at the dock seeing/welcoming the ship(s) in! If you need info on Cairns I'd be glad to pass whatever I can on to you. You have picked a good time to be up our way...nice temps peaking around 28 Celcius & calm waters. P.S Sydney is tops & I'm sure you'll love the place no matter what you end up doing! Catch a ferry to somewhere! Have fun! Cheers

    Giving to Charity

Hi there! I visited the Government school in Vila last Sept.,and gave the preschool reading books, pencils, crayons, paper (plain & coloured), etc. but the one item that made the childrens faces really light up (their teacher had to quieten them down :) ),were the puzzles...the ones in the frames, very cheap here & I wished I had brought more. Anything will be appreciated by these beautiful people, no matter who you donate to. Enjoy your trip! Cheers

    First cruise with kids

Hi again Linda, What sort of prices were the DVDs? Also do they sell game discs like Nintendo? What prices are the clothing in Vila?

Hi Tianika! We re-visited Vila in Sept.'07. My teenage sons bought a DVD with 10 movies on it for 10,000vt ($15??) which worked perfectly. A real bargain! Can't remember the shop name (It was Chinese), but it was inside a 'walk through arcade', filled with little shops, land-side on main street. However, they also bought what they thought was a PS2 game from a Duty free shop, and were given assurances to the same from staff, even though it said PSX on the front....they all did!!but it failed to do anything when we got it home. The PSX consoles never made it onto the Aussie market as they were a marketing failure! Guess where the games ended up! As for clothes, we found the markets were more expensive than the shops, but perhaps not on the days the ship is in. Your kids would love Le Petite train in Noumea. The Cascades in Vila are also lovely and the children won't have to walk the whole track to enjoy any one of the many gorgeous pools. Hideaway Is. would also be a good choice if your children enjoy swimming with the fish amongst coral. (The cocktails aren't bad either:D ) By the way, the playground next to the Iririki Wharf was a gift to the Vanuatu people from our very own govt...worth a swing/slide perhaps??? My kids just wouldn't be in it!! You will love your trip! Cheers

    Pacific Dawn...Live from Sydney

Hello all you happy CC'ers! I was wondering how many of you rocked up to see P&O's latest addition for Oz, after seeing the celebrations on the news! Obviously a few! Half your luck:) The lightshow looked very impressive...not to mention the boat! The bath area (a suite perhaps???) shown on the news footage, looked big enough to swing 2 cats in!! I was in Sydney 2 weeks ago when 'Rhapsody of the Seas' was in and I was mightily impressed with her...& SOOO envious of all those lucky passengers! It was fantastic to watch her turning around and heading out of the harbour. Just gotta keep saving......... Cheers!
  10. Hi all! We had a great land based holiday in Efate...can't wait to go back! I have a great photo of the Star coming into Port Vila on Sept.26 (with handsome son in foreground!) taken from the verandah of our unit at Fatumaru...can't praise that place enough & I'm SO happy we decided to stay there. It was hard to believe it had been a whole year since we had been on the Star! We had planned to do the Sunset cruise to wave the ship farewell but they don't operate when the ship is in anymore....don't know why, maybe it's a hazzard thing..... We didn't get to do half the things I'd hoped, which is why we have to go back! We entered a competition at the supermarket to win "a block of land & a tonne of concrete":D, so we may just get back earlier than hoped! Time just flew. We did manage to 'eat' our way through a good sampling of restaurants though:eek: Hubby & no.2 son got some fishing time in (& caught fish too...just as well as I could have dined at even more restaurants for the money!). In all honesty I think we saw more of Efate just by hopping on the buses & going anywhere,'via' everyone elses (locals) drop offs! We waited until ship day to buy our duty free as we were told by the locals that the prices are cheaper when they dock due to competition not only among themselves, but with P&O...& so it was! One of my highlights was visiting the Govt. kindy & handing over a few supplies as I'd planned... a near riot occured when the children saw the jigsaw puzzles! They survive on so little & I wished I'd been able to fit more in our bags. Next time! The Principal of the whole Central School is a Melbournite who made a point of coming down to the Kindy to meet me as well. It was a real delight. Now it's back to the grind & waiting for the call to say the land (& concrete:D ) is ours! You must be counting down the days Chez!:D :D :D Happy future sailings to everyone! Cheers!

P&o Short Tours - The Best Port Vila Tours...

Hi, I have found a descriptive list of all the P&O Tours available on offer for Port Vila. I am wanting to book my tours with P&O before the cruise, so I don’t miss out. I’m not really sure what would be the best way to spend our day in Port Vila. We are two women, so I don’t really want to do the fishing or golfing tour! Are there are tours that you guys thought were excellent and would recommend we do? I’m not too fussed about cost of tour. Thanks heaps for all your help!!

Hello there! The Ekasup Village Cultural tour is good & can be done in the morning, leaving you free to shop or enjoy one of the numerous fabulous eating spots, in the afternoon. Also the Mele Cascades are beautiful, especially on a warm day. You could do a morning tour to there as well. It is cheaper to catch a local bus & a lot more fun! (300 vt...probably $6 one way & 1000vt or around $12 entry) & to ask the driver to return at a designated time for your return. You'd only need about 1 &1/2 to 2 hrs there & it's only about 1/2hr to get there from town. Have fun!

will we get our passports stamped

Just a query, so excuse my naivety......considering passports are seldom stamped now days, why are we 'offered' different types of passport when we apply for one.....the only thing I can remember detecting that's different about each option, is the number of pages that come with it! PS. I'm heading to the Vila P.O for a stamp on our next visit in 17 days time! PPS. See all of you cruisers when you arrive there on the 26th!! Cheers

    Qld coast cruise questions

Hi Fiona! My computer went haywire so I couldn't post a reply! Yes Sunbus does go all the way out. You need to catch the buses that go to Smithfield/Northern Beaches, being 1X, 2 or 2A. They leave from the opposite side to Woolies. The bus 1X goes straight into the Skyrail area (which includes the Tjapukai Cultural Centre which is next door) so it would be your best bet. Otherwise the other buses would drop you somewhere on the highway & you would have to walk a short way to reach the entrance. The 1X bus departs the city mall (weekdays) at 8.57am,9.27,9.57,10.27,10.57 etc. right up until 6.27pm when the times start to differ slightly. The cost is about $4 one way....somewhat cheaper than a cab! PS.Skyrail is fabulous:) Cheers

    Qld coast cruise questions

Hi Fiona, It doesn't take long to get off the ship although those with organized tours will get priority. You are literally only one /two blocks from the city centre from Trinity wharf where you are docked, and the main taxi rank is at the northern end of the Lake Street mall. There may be taxis waiting at Trinity wharf....there is possibly a taxi phone there anyway. Taxis will be expensive. If you know what you would like to do, it may be possible to catch a Sunbus (local public buses) ... eg. go out to the beaches/ visit the Royal Flying doctor headquarters & our Bot. Gardens etc.... Sunbus operates from the Lake St. mall as well, & most of the drivers are more than willing to offer assistance...otherwise just ask a local! Hope you enjoy our neighbourhood! Cheers
