They were denied being able to go ashore this morning in Akureyri. Haven’t seen a post lately to know if they worked it out.
We are still on board Jupiter and no updates since the captain said the locals were inspecting protocols on the ship. Today is shot. No updates for tomorrow but would love to plan ahead…like sleep late if we can’t get off ship.

I can’t tell if my under armour post went through. Hope it’s not repetitive. Another tip…we waterproofed a lot of stuff with this stuff. I think it helped. We bought two cans. Sprayed shoes jackets for example. https://amzn.to/2VThzsp

Those who have been…is it worth waking at 530 am to see scenic fjord?

BTW all is still good on Jupiter! Colder today isafjord- feels like temp of 46. I thought felt colder than that. This rain cover would work for my backpack https://amzn.to/3rf1GIo
Oh and I wore tee shirt, fleece and light puffy coat under rain jacket. Took puffy coat off as I could.

for the waterproof pants...how did you figure out which size to get? Do you wear them over your pants/jeans and put them on as you see you'll need them throughout the day--in this case order a bigger size-- or do you just wear the waterproof pants alone and order a smaller size?
I got a bigger size and wear fleece leggings under. I wore them all day. Too much of a hassle to take on and off over my hiking shoes. They helped with wind too!

Sound fabulous! Did you drive or book a transport/tour to Sky Lagoon?
We’re staying in Reykjavik. We took a taxi each way ($30 ish each way!) There were people who walked from the Perl museum. They said it took 45 minutes from there. Some people scootered from Reykjavik. We bought our tickets ahead online. We did the sky pass for private changing rooms but not necessary really. Not super crowded. About 50% locals and 50% tourists.

Someone asked about the sky lagoon. We went today! Incredible views of the North Atlantic. Clean and purified water with the signature 7 step ritual. It is definitely worth your time and money! 6 miles from central Reykjavik. Any questions about specifics email us luxurytraveldocs@gmail.com.

Seeing that amber colored beer got an “Oooh” out of my husband. Do you recommend any brewery in particular?
No but we had two Borg beers ( we love Star Trek.)

A note about airport check-in: checking in today at EWR for United, they told me that the Iceland barcode document was insufficient because it doesn't specify your name or any other identifying details. So I had to dig up the email containing the barcode so that they could validate it.
So print out the entire email and not just the barcode like I did.

Just went through kef customs today. They scanned barcode and cross checked computer information with your covid card and passport. Just the barcode was needed - we flew in on delta. Weather lovely. Light fleece yoga pants, tee shirt and llbean fleece for me with trail sneakers. Glenn a fleece over tee shirt and hiking pants with trail shoes. No rain and light breeze. In the wind my arms were cold. Tried the local beers - walked the old town. We’re on July 13 Jupiter Baleaf fleece yoga pants with leg pocket for phone is one of the best investments I made 👇🏻https://amzn.to/2oGqugs

Sounds like ours. Standard CDC-card
8 hours ago, IWantToLiveOverTheSea said:My Covid Vax Record Card appears to be complete, but could you (or someone) please tell me exactly what information Iceland requires? The card has my name and DOB, plus 2 stickers (for 1st & 2nd doses) showing Mfg (Pfizer), lot #, date, and site. My state also has a databank but I don't know if it has anything more than what's on the card. Thanks.
Like our cards and there were no problems at all at KEF. Ours were mostly hand written and no stickers and abbreviations for sites of administration. They didn’t take them out of our covid card holders.

I see a number of happy reports from the Blue Lagoon. Congratulations.
We've been to Blue Lagoon a few times. Has anyone tried the new one near Reykjavik, the Sky Lagoon? We'll be in Reykjavik for a few days before our 14 August sailing and was planning to give it a try.
We’re going on Monday. Will try to let you know.

In Heimaey today. Did the Wildlife boat trip today -- not the RIB boat. If it is raining or going to rain, raingear is a must, including waterproof pants. The best view is outside on the deck. The seats are metal and hold the cold and the wet. Keeping cameras dry is also an issue. Don't forget wind chill factor on deck.
Guide Telma was very good. Lots of stories and good information.
We're bringing a couple of dry bags for electronics. We're doing kayaking and zodiac tours.

Just arrived at KEF about two hours ago. I can no longer recommend Airport Direct. We prepaid for Airport Direct Premium which was to provide direct service to our hotel. We also paid for an option that said Airport Direct would monitor our fly and be here if our flight is delayed. Well our flight was delayed and we are waiting for an hour for an Airport Direct Premium driver who will be picking us up as well as several other folks to make stops at several places along the way. Not as advertised! Also it was the agent at KEF second day and he said he didn’t know how the option that we paid for worked - neither did our Premium driver who said it was his forth day. Based on our experience I would definitely not book Airport Direct in the future. I’ll post later how they deal with our claim for a refund of services not delivered as promised!
Sorry you had that happen and we know how frustrating that is. We're using Hreyfill this weekend. Hopefully they are better. Their communication has been excellent so far.

The insect net head/face overing is a must do and easy to pack and use. I wouldn't leave without rain gear of any type. Too many warnings of quickly changing weather here.
We bought these head nets - easy, comfortable
**** Is bug spray necessary and/or does it help?
FYI for others since it’s hard to search forums. Bought these rain pants. Comfy and plenty of room for clothes underneath https://amzn.to/3hKCIfy and matching jacket. https://amzn.to/3wlwrw8 Both good quality.

To those on board or returned...Did you need or wish you had your hiking poles on hikes? Does Viking provide them?

All the Icelandair flights out of KEF today are delayed this afternoon except the one to Seattle (even flights to Europe). Anyone have an idea why? Weather looks good.
There was some big water leak happening at JFK yesterday. LOTS of delays. Might be a snowball effect from that. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9754483/JFK-delays-hundreds-flights-control-tower-water-leak-overcrowded-July-4-weekend.html

We booked the kayaking tour for the first day. Is anyone else considering that tour (we are on July 13). I bought a new rain suit for that and bad rain if it occurs. Hopefully won't need it other than for kayaking. The first one I tried was too big and I don't like a lot of velcro on them because it snags everything if it's not closed correctly. I really liked this one a lot for the fit. Bought both the ladies pants and the jacket. Hubby kept the original one we bought. Pants: https://amzn.to/3AmiRM9 and jacket: https://amzn.to/3AooUja

Does anyone have restaurant suggestions for Reykjavik? We have two nights and I want to make reservations if needed…

We have had midges on The Golden Circle, a few on Vigor Island, some on National Treasures (but rest assured if it hadn't been windy, we would have been covered) and a few at Vok Baths (again had a breeze).
I agree hate them also!
We ordered these. Two pack and not very expensive. https://amzn.to/2SH43Xw
