I don't have Platinum or Gold, but I do have 4 other Amex cards, I recently got a Cunard, Royal Caribbean, and Regent offer.

Best advice I can give on any of these offers, being for cruise or anything else, if you see something you think you might remotely use, add it to your card. You never know how long the offer will be there, although the expiration date for the offer may be a couple of months.

Agreed! I was pretty excited to be getting ready to make my final payment and get an extra 50,000 points out of it.

Anyone who has mentioned "busy port days" is uninformed.

Bruges is a popular tourist city, it matters little whether there are one or two (are there ever more than two?) cruise ships in port.

So just like any other tourist city it's busier at weekends and during school holidays.

I used to regularly drive day-trippers to Bruges - busy days & quiet days, fine days and wet days (the weather in Bruges is quite fickle).

As @mskaufman has mentioned, there are half-a-dozen or more boarding points around the canal route.

The boats all take the same route - you alight at the same place that you boarded, so wherever you board is immaterial - the only difference is the order in which you see places.

Yes, I've seen lines for the boats - the answer is to keep the boats in mind as you explore the city, and join a line if (more likely when) you see a short one.

But if the weather is threatening, the sooner the better - these are all small (25? pax) open boats, they have to be because of the very low bridges. And even on a glorious day, take a lightweight waterproof jacket or cape or thin throwaway poncho to avoid getting too wet.

Of course, the reverse is just as likely - a day which starts with miserable early rain can quickly turn into a fine day

Other than the business of following a guide with a paddle on a set itinerary and at the group's pace, there's nothing wrong with a walking tour - it's useful if you want to learn about Bruges. But certainly don't commit yourselves to a tour just to avoid any potential lines for a boat.

(tours in buses are pointless - they're not permitted in the historic cobbled part of the city)

    Extremely, extremely helpful! Thank you!!

  3. Hi,

The one thing we really want to do in Bruges is the canal ride. I'm not seeing where we can purchase in advance online (unless a group of 20+ people which we are not) as some have recommended unless we do it as part of a walking tour. Is that what you all would recommend? Or, do you think we'll have luck just walking up that day and waiting in line? Some have said that if it's a busy port day, it's almost impossible to walk up and get a ticket the day of.

    Thanks!

  4. If I’m more than 30 days out from booking (but a year out from the cruise), does it make any sense to cancel and rebook? I guess there’s a possibility of losing my room and the Oceania rep has been great to me but hard to pass up if I can find rebates through a TA. I’m in a suite so it’s an expensive cruise to begin with. I’m also on O Life so would have to weigh that against SM.

  5. Total amateur question… when you all refer to TAs, are you talking about a 3rd party agent or an Oceania rep? I have an Oceania rep assigned to me that we ask questions of frequently. Is using a 3rd party better? This will be my 3rd cruise with them but the first two times were through an agent for an alumni trip. Was just reading the thread about incentives back from the TA but guessing those are through 3rd parties. Thanks!

  6. Bruge

    Le Havre

    Saint Malo

    Lorient

    Bordeaux

    La Rochelle

    Biarritz

    Bilboa

    La Coruna

Which of these ports, in general, are easiest for self exploration? For example, port close to city center or shops, restaurants, points of interest. These ports are all new to us. Wanting to maximize our included excursions wisely.

Thanks! My mother is my travel companion and mobility is slightly an issue.

I read the question differently.  I think they are in a named suite and get 6 bottles of wine or liquor in their  cabin. If they do it is my impression they can bring that bottle or a glass to a meal.  Please let us know if it is one of the free bottles and if someone can then confirm they can bring it.

Yes, exactly. Not trying to skirt any rules, repeating what my Oceania rep stated.

  8. We are on OLife and chose the excursion credit. We received 3 excursions. Our fare under SM is $1500 more to switch. Our rep said he thinks the 3 excursions is more valuable than the $800 excursion credit we would get under SM. We have a suite and get 6 bottles I think which he said we can carry a glass into dinner (just not the bottle)? I think 2 Wi-Fi are included now for all. Not using their airfare. He said to stay where I’m at. Agree?
