  1. Well there you go, someone who loves the Long Islands

Phew. I was getting seriously worried over hear. ;) You know, because a little more than 24 hours away from sail away there is nothing else to worry about at all (getting to the airport, plane being on time, getting our luggage all in one piece, kids being left behind with grandpa... LOL) I gotta focus on the little things or the big ones will overwhelm me!

  2. I'm not 100% sure, I've tried them a few times but always at dinner, so I never watched them make it, and it never got better. I don't think it tastes like a normal LI tho so I wouldn't doubt it's a mix.

 I'll give it a shot, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Not like there won't be anything else to drink.

  3. Lol, well that's just my opinion, don't let that discourage you from getting one and trying it, you may like it. And like anything else, some ships and or bartenders may be better. I do like Long Islands

They don't do anything dumb like use a mix or anything, right? Generally, as long as they don't use a mix, I think they are good enough to drink a few. But if they use a mix it's a no go for sure.

  4. As someone else pointed out, the price you see is the average price per person. AVERAGE being the key word. It is NOT the price for the first two passengers. That is not deceptive, it says it right there in plain English. If you don't understand the basic mathematics of averages, I'm sure there are plenty of websites you can go to in order to brush up.

This practice is not deceptive or illegal. It is not bait and switch. It is just run of the mill marketing. They tell you the AVERAGE price per person in the cabin. You have to pull from that information what your rate will be.

  5. Explain further please.

I can't speak for the OP of that comment, but I thought the same thing. There has to be space and crew available to accommodate creating several different types of food. The reason there are two traditional dining times with Carnival is so that they can spread the workload out for the serving staff and kitchen staff. If there are 6 different restaurants seating people who are ordering vastly different types of dishes you need a bigger kitchen and prep area, as well as more staff trained in the different styles of food you're offering.

  6. I think its also ironic considering how carnival is considered the party cruise line and RCI is more classy but RCI has the truly unlimited booze package. I personally don't think I would drink over 15drinks a day, but not havig soft drinks or red bull included is a bummer

It DOES include soft drinks and non-alcoholic frozen drinks in unlimited quantities. Red bull, is not included from what I understand, though. You can have it with one of your 15 drinks, but not separate as part of Cheers. Read it on the Carnival site, it really tells you what's included.

That is a man made port/cruise center. Look at the above link and see. You do NOT have to sign up for anything. Chairs are free. Other things might have a charge. If you do not want to see any of the real Roatan, then sure just hang out and make it a "beach day" as many do. Choice is yours.

This feels like a really sarcastic post and I don't understand it. I see the same attitude in just about every post about Mo'Bay I read. As if a person who would not want to see the "real" Roatan is somehow inferior to those cultured cruisers who choose to spend the money on taxis and go to some other beach to sit around and swim. Or because we don't want to give Victor Bodden our money to drive us around and see some monkeys. I think it's pretty undeserved criticism.

  8. Gee I wish Platinum/Diamond cruisers could cash in on this! Our miracle cabin was ready but the baggage didn't arrive til 4!

I would imagine that if you went to Guest Services and told them you did not receive the perks you're supposed to receive as a platinum/diamond cruiser, they would be more than happy to find some way to help you or compensate you. It isn't about "cashing in" so much as not being provided a service that was paid for. You didn't pay for the platinum status (not directly), it is just a loyalty perk, so you wouldn't be "refunded" anything. However, you might get some kind of OBC to compensate you for the inconvenience. I think Guest Services generally is going to err on the side of the passenger and to give them a little something to make the problem "go away."

  9. Just off Legend and went looking for the little, pretty chapel. It appears to be now " Crew Only" space, with a sign on the door. Wonder what they do when having a wedding on board? :(

Weddings are held in any of the other "rooms." On the Victory our wedding was in the Imagination Cigar Bar, actually. I was a little bit worried it would stink, but it was wonderful. It certainly wasn't a traditional wedding, and there were little problems, but a chapel is not necessary for a wedding.

  10. I, personally, think it's a good idea to keep the only the basic cruise amenities (food, room, shows) included in the fare for some cruise lines. I think there should be all inclusive lines that charge you for everything, whether you make use of it or not, upfront. It will be the type of service and experience that an upscale cruiser would appreciate. Then there should be "pay to play" style cruising for people who don't want, need, expect the same experience. They can have some good, but not 5 star food. Good but not 5 star accommodations. The option to participate in some free, but lower quality experiences or to pay a little more for some upgraded experiences.

  11. I have a (dumb?) question. The Cheers! program says it includes "spirits and non-alcoholic frozen drinks". I assume it includes alcoholic frozen drinks too? To me, a frozen drink is not a spirit, so I just want to make sure it includes those before I spend $385 on the program. :)

I can answer this! YES! It includes ALL alcoholic beverages 10 and under. You get up to 15 of those per day. You can ALSO get an unlimited number of non-alcoholic frozen drinks. So if you really love a Miami-Vice, but you don't want the booze, you can get as many as you can drink.

  12. I haven't seen a thread compiling on upsells, so I wanted to start one to have one place to get the information. Information that I am thinking is pertinent is as follows:

    1) Ship and length of cruise Glory 7 day

    2) How many days before the cruise were you called? 17

    3) number of people sailing 2

    4) Cabin type you were booked in and deck Balcony Verandah

    5) upsell offer cabin type and price Ocean Suite on Empress for $430 for both of us.

We did not take the upsell, because it wasn't of value to us to get a suite.

  13. Sassy0930- We had the 5 night itinerary, went to Key West and Nassau. In Nassau we were docked from 12-8pm. We are not heavy drinkers by no means but on a cruise we tend to have our cocktails. If you think, being up since 9:30 am (having a bloody mary or a mimosa with breakfast) and going to sleep on average 1:30-2am, that is 14 hours awake...so even if I had 12 drinks thats only one drink an hour and certainly not enough to get to the head. The first day we had 9 drinks each, the sea days we had 11-13, Key West we were docked 7am-3pm we had 11, in Nassau we were docked 12-8pm and had 11 and the last evening was sea day we had 13. We hired our own personal tour guide for Nassau and were off the ship for 4 1/2 hours, in Key West we took the Trolley Tour which was 90 minutes then walked around for another hour. If you drink 6 drinks in the course of a day being that the average cost for a drink is $8.00 for cocktail...and 5.75 for a beer and 7.50 for a glass of wine (frozen drinks, drink of the day and many other drinks are $8.75 and martini's $9.50) and the fact it includes the tip (we always gave an additional $1 per drink but the 15% tip is included in the price of the cheers package and most don't tip extra) you will get your monies worth. It also includes soda too.

Thank you for the detailed answer! That is really helpful. I keep wavering back and forth, so I think I'll bring some cash to cover it (our credit card is a low-limit to limit risk of fraud, so I don't want to tie the whole thing up with just the Cheers!) and if we want it, I'll put the cash on the account, and if we don't, the cash will stay in the safe.

  14. There really isn't any "benefit" other than convenience or budgeting to pre-paying. We have pre-paid and have had it billed to S&S, hasn't made any difference in our service. For us for this cruise, the card we are going to use for our S&S has a low limit, and if we waited until we were on board we would not have as much available for the fun stuff!
