I believe the sales tax fiasco only applies at 3 US ports.  New York area, New Orleans and Texas (Specifically Galveston, probably applies to line that sail from Houston also).

Carnival at least does not allow use of cheers the first night of cruise from Galveston.

Other lines ie RCCL you pay just the tax portion, but the selection of beer and liquor are limited to what they paid state tax on until past the 12 mile limit.

I have no actual experience sailing from NEW York but it has been reported similar I believe.

You pay taxes while in port at Jacksonville.  We sailed on the elation past fall, I think I racked up like $3ish dollars in taxes for beverages I drank before we left port.

"These situations were tragic, but they are an inevitable consequence of millions of Americans traveling abroad each year. While the media is breathlessly raising the alarm over the Dominican Republic, in 2018, 14 Americans died in Canada, six in the United Kingdom, and eight in France of unnatural causes and, collectively, probably hundreds died of natural causes. Yet, there is no endless news coverage or reporters sniffing the vodka in pubs in England, nor calls for boycotts or change travel plans for those countries."

  4. Your stateroom will be ready the moment you walk on the ship.  We carry on most of our luggage, go straight to the room, then head to the food/bar/pool to let the fun begin.  If we didn't have access to our room, we would have cart our luggage around until our room is ready sometime hours later.

  5. Anybody have any tips for booking FTTF?  We got it on our last cruise that we booked about 9 months ahead of time. I believe it was available to us right after booking.  We booked a cruise for October a couple of weeks ago, and I don't see it anywhere on the excursions list.  I've checked every morning thus far.  So I'm unsure if its sold out, or just not available yet.

  6. We booked a cruise for October this past weekend.  Its not currently available on the excursions list. I'm hoping they just having opened it up yet instead of it being sold out.  FTTF is definitely worth it.  You'll get on the boat and have access to your room hours before the majority of other passengers, also I believe it improves your experience with waiting less for dining and guest services. I keep checking everyday in the hopes it will be available soon!

  7. I sailed out of Jacksonville in September.  I didn't find any hotel with available parking for the duration of the cruise.  But I did find a private and secure lot directly across the street from the terminal.  Its was $40 for a 4-day cruise.  They shuttled us and our luggage to the drop off area at the terminal, and shuttled us back when we returned.
