I don't mind either way but one issue I see with that suggestion is the casino. It's a heavily trafficked middle inside area. Only way to avoid is to go outside on some cruises (might be issue for some people due to weather and such). Maybe if they made the smoking area further away from the main walkway deeper into the casino? But I know a lot use the bar to smoke that everyone has to walk by there.

Never actually thought of smokers spreading further with them exhaling smoke out tho. Maybe if they exhale downward or into a napkin? Dunno what would be proper edicate or manners for that step lol

I frequent the casinos around where I live and while the restriction has been lifted now. While COVID restrictions were in full swing you were only allowed to smoke while seated at a slot machine. (Still not able to smoke at table games).

I think it would be reasonable for them to have a rule that you needed to be seated at a slot to smoke in the casino. There are still the outside smoking areas for everyone else that doesn’t want to sit at a slot.

  2. Updated from the CDC. This is good news!

    Fully Vaccinated Travelers

    • Cruise ship operators, at their discretion, may advise passengers and crew that—if they are fully vaccinated—they may gather or conduct activities outdoors, including engaging in extended meal service or beverage consumption, without wearing a mask except in crowded settings.

    Fully Vaccinated Travelers

    • Cruise ship operators, at their discretion, may advise passengers and crew that—if they are fully vaccinated—they may engage in self-guided or independent exploration during port stops, if they wear a mask while indoors. The cruise ship operator is additionally advised that foreign jurisdictions may have their own requirements.

Vista is also gone from july. Just checked. ..I'm sure even though it goes from Galveston it also must be desantis fault. Seems everyone blames him for everything.

Only 2 sailings of breeze still showing on carnival site at the moment for july.

Vista gone from carnival site for july must be related to desantis. Every problem with cruises not resuming someone blames on desantis. Must be more powerful than I knew.

Vista is still on the website for July...

The Horizon is no longer showing as available to book in July or August.

Probably because the Gov. of that state made it to where businesses can't ask if you have been vaccinated. The cruise lines have to be able to know your vaccine status  in order to comply with the CDC.

Two identical ships - one paid for, the other financed. The paid for ship has lower costs because there are no financing costs that have to be included in fixed costs.

Besides fixed costs there are variable costs, etc. Cost is only part of the equation for calculating profit.

You also need revenue figures. Economics 101.

The argument wasn’t ever over two identical ships. Nice try on re framing.

It was about smaller, less efficient, older “paid for ships” being more profitable than a newer, much bigger and efficient “financed” ship.

The newer bigger ships are more profitable. Period.

Newer tend to be bigger, are financed, and need more people to break even.

Newer on one line does not mean bigger or more efficient than a newer ship on a different line. Reread as necessary.

Ships that are already paid for have a lower costs than new ships bought with financing. It takes a while to really break even. It is one of the reasons for refurbishing and transforming ships, instead of starting with a new hull.

Mardi Gras and Victory/Radiance are different ship building companies, difference shipyards, different countries. I think Carnival would plan on completing both. What if a second covid wave strikes one country first? You might at least stand a chance of completing the other ship. Mardi Gras is larger but also has some limitations due to size and also the LNG requirements.

IF the CFO is correct (no bets on that one). Is Grandeur paid for and/or are financing costs included in his numbers? But for this exercise, assume he is approximately correct.

    Using basic math skills:

    Symphony of the Seas - 5518 capacity x 30% = 1655.4 passengers break even

    Grandeur of the Seas - 2446 capacity x 50% = 1223 passengers break even

    1655.4 is > 1223

I will keep my correct opinion, thank you.

All still wrong. Don’t see any older “more profitable paid for ships” in the most recent restart plan.

Why aren’t the remaining Fantasy class ships the first to start?! They have been paid for the longest and should generate the most profit according to you.

In other news, Carnival is issuing another 1.5 billion of stock and I think still has 0.5 billion authorized from the last time, or about $2 billion, if they want.

Carnival continues to reduce cash burn, whereas NCL keeps increasing cash burn.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why they aren’t wanting to start off with ships that are “paid for” thereby more profitable.

Must have something to do with the efficiency of the that makes the newer ones more profitable.

When you say both ships, do you mean Fantasy and Inspiration, or Fantasy and Pride?

From the looks of the AIS the Pride and Glory were not docked at the same container terminal that the Inspiration and Fantasy were/are docked at. I could be wrong though.

  9. I have also received all of my refund requests. A canceled March 2020 and May 2020. Have gotten everything I requested from Carnival.

People just need to be patient and allow time for them to process everything in this very difficult time. If you can't afford to wait up to 90 days to get back money you spent on a cruise then maybe you shouldn't be spending that kind of money on cruising.

Carnival wasn't the only cruise line to utilize their ships in the process of transporting crew home. In fact, most of the cruise lines did the same and still submitted a response plan to the no sail order as instructed.

There isn’t a single CCL Corp line on that list. You were only required if you wanted to use US commercial travel to get crew home. By that point Carnival Corp had all crew on ships heading home.

That wasn’t the OP’s question though. OP was trying to find out if Carnival “made peace” (his words) with the CDC.

Then the answer is no they haven’t. Because they used their ships the get crew home. So no need to submit plans to the CDC to operate during the no sail order.

  12. For anyone that has been paying attention since the start of this we know what is coming next.

This isn’t the first time they have done this. Yes I believe that when cruises come back they will be controlled by capacity. However once Carnival starts pulling whole chunks of bookings they aren’t doing it for capacity sake. They are doing it because they don’t want to have to refund anyone else that books a cruise they now know they are going to cancel.

We will get info from Carnival by the end of the week more than likely about the cancellations of the cruises they pulled.

The CDC will be extended. The demands in the Order will not just disappear in August. Hospital ships, Resident ships, every cruise ship clinic renovated into mini hospital etc etc will last until a vaccine is found.

Parts of the country opening up has nothing to do with the No Sail Order.

What are you even talking about?

One demand of the order is 100 days which as stated as July 27. Carnival isn't planning on sailing until Aug. 1. (one demand met)

Another is The CDC Director rescinds or modifies the order based on specific public health or other considerations. (which they could do at any time)

It's only in effect until one of it's terms is met.

We all don't know. But you acting like you do is funny.

    Hi All.

I‘ve been going back & forth on booking our next Carnival Cruise and am now considering Valor out of NOLA.  Since the pricing out of season on this ship is normally reasonable, I want to choose a balcony.  But I’ve heard so many good things about booking an aft wrap balcony I was really wanting to go for one of those.  Unfortunately there are only about 6 such rooms on the Valor and even selecting cruises well into 2021 finds nothing available.  So my questions are:

•What is the typical upcharge from per day from balcony to aft wrap?

•Is “aft extended balcony” really any better than balcony if aft wrap is not available?

•How far out did you have to book to get the aft wrap or did you have to use a PVP/TA to actually locate one?

    Thanks

There is still one Aft Wrap available on the Valor Nov. 16th 2020.

Almost two pages spent arguing about an article that doesn't have anything to do with whether or not the Radiance refurbishment will happen. To include a cheap shot at someone's post count, bringing people's voting habits into play, and two Italian automobiles. 🤔 Look at the bright side...at least it's not about COVID-19. Here's the CC we all know & love.

As it stands right now, Carnival still has bookings available for the Radiance, starting as early as Nov. of this year. Would they continue to take bookings for it if they plan to scrap the refurbishment, even if only temporarily?

IMHO. Yes they will continue to take bookings until they know for sure. They won’t be able to deliver the ship.

That is what they have done so far.

I have a Valor cruise out of NOLA in Nov. Is it scheduled yes. Do I know it will happen? No. I have had 5 cruises that were on the schedule canceled so far.

A Fiat 500 is certainly more efficient than a Ferrari. And an LNG fueled Fiat would run circles around a Ferrari filled with bunker c oil.

So in this analogy is the Fiat 500 the newer ships and the Ferrari the older ships?

If so I think we finally agree.
