  1. So confused' date=' I've heard from several places, including Captain Johnny that he was captain of Harmony, at least he said he would be bringing her over for her first TA....[/quote']

He and Capt Gus may have planned for Capt Johnny to be the Master for the crossing, but it has nothing to do with who brings the ship out. Remember, HM is in service for approx 5 months before she has her crossing.

  2. Did anyone tell Captain Johnny this?:D

I'm surprised since he's currently in rotation with Captain Claus on Anthem.

Gus left AN for the last time this past Saturday. He will do the early sailings, including "some" from BCN:):) and then he and Johnny will follow the regular rotation pattern.

That's the most recent update, as of this morning, but it hasn't changed for quite a while. I actually had this info confirmed by Johnny while I was on AL in BCN in June.

  3. Capt Toni is newly promoted Capt. He was Staff Capt on EN and is staying on EN as Capt.

Tomas Busto has moved with his family to Puerto Rico and is now assigned to AD.

    Yet another update!

I decided to stay on the ship and do b2b instead of facing Erika today.

Saw Capt Shawn. He's Master again. He probably was busy during the week since there was scrubber work scheduled. (The ship was in Nassau for 50 hours rather than the usual Nassau and CocoCay.) From what he told me, Capt Toni was able to have a "dress rehearsal" (my words, not his) at the helm. Capt Toni has definitely been promoted to Capt and will take over EN at the next rotation.

    That's my final story!

  4.

Master is Capt Toni Tomlk-something - from Croatia - only joined Royal in 2014. That's all I know so far. Don't even know if he is a staff captain filling in or if this is now his ship.

Will try to get more info.

  5. Have not had much luck w/internet on EN. Thought I'd at least send this, but I'll still try to get more info.

  6. We thought she was totally ineffective as a CD on the Jewel. That was the most boring cruise we've ever been on, and the activities/entertainment were very lacking. Even a dynamic Activities Manager (Elvis Pinto) didn't help her.

Interesting. I thought she was very creative and open to suggestions.

I first met her on the RH Circumnavigation of OZ/NZ. There were several problems at some of the ports because the ship was calling there for the first time. Carly managed to get us the information we needed.

There was one time when a woman said her husband had complained that too many of the activities were for women. Carly asked her what he would like to do and the next day it was on the program.

I've sailed with her at least twice since then and I have found her as responsive as before.

  7. We are coming back on the Allure on Jan 24th 2016 and are considering a 5:40 flight out of WPB Airport. Instead of taking a taxi and sitting in the airport for 5 hours we were thinking of renting a car for the 17 mile drive. How much of a hassle is it to get from Port Everglades to a car rental agency? from Google map it doesn't look like they're within walking distance from the port. Take a taxi?

Thanks in advance for your help

I live south of WPB and north of Port Everglades. I am approx 40 miles (45 minutes) from the port. I don't know where you got the number of miles to the airport as 17, but it's probably more like 57!

With a valid reservation for a rental, there are shuttle buses that stop at the various terminals and bring you to the rental location.

  8. I was on SP July 4-11. Both Concierges were female. I remember that there was a post (maybe early in June) with both names and nobody knew either or them and they were the ones who were on my cruise. Neither of them mentioned leaving soon and I believe both had recently returned from vacation.

Right now I don't remember where I put my papers from the trip, but if you don't have the correct names tomorrow, I promise to look for the info.

  9. There's another thing to consider. I don't think they allow infants under 6 months on the ship. If that's still the case, if your baby is born today and you could adopt tomorrow (I know that's impossible) you still could not sail in September!

At this point, since you're already in the penalty period, I think you should keep the reservation. If nothing happens in the meantime, you'll take another cruise as a couple as you mentioned. When something does happen, based on when the baby is born (not based on the adoption date) you would then know when to cruise.

    Good luck!!!

  10. I love to see threads like this one. They make the people who have Carnival-level expectations remain with Carnival.

Royal does not claim to have 24-hour food venues. Royal does not claim that the dining room is formal every night, only the nights that are designated as formal. If you are happy having your "formal" dinner in the Windjammer, then I suspect that the Specialty Restaurants are not for you and it's a good thing you have decided not to waste your money.

The service in the Main Dining Room is wonderful. Sometimes they can be busy when people don't show up when they should and then expect instantaneous service.

Do your homework in advance. Find out what's available on various ships. Read the Cruise Compass to know what to expect daily.

I know what I'm talking about. Right now I'm sitting on Deck 9, near the pool, but I think it's time to go to the WJ for lunch.

  11. Just recently sailed on the Radiance. The Concierge in the Concierge Lounge was beyond poor. She wasn't there most of the time during her posted hrs. Even made an appt to see her, and she never showed up even though we confirmed the appointment time. After waiting 40 min beyond appt time, we called Guest Relations who contacted her. She appeared 15 min later not at all happy. In fact she was quite rude telling us Guest Relations could handle the matter although it was her job. Other folks were also having problems with her & going to the point of reporting her.

I wasn't going to chime in, but now I see the same pattern. Don't expect anything to improve. She gave notice about a month ago that she would fulfill her contract and not come back.

Katya, in the Diamond Lounge will move to CL. She was wonderful!

  12. We had Keith on Explorer as well. He is genuinely personable, approachable, and visible throughout the ship. It seemed that once he recognized a guest, he would always stop to talk and ensure that all was going well. While not a physical comedian like Richard Spacey, he does a good job responding to guests' entertainment needs (e. g., deciding to add a second 50's and 60's night due to overwhelming positive response on the first one). His staff appeared to have a lot of respect for him, too.

Great explanation of why Keith is my all-time favorite.:D
