  1. On the Grand, they were fine with me eating Crab Shack and my wife just eating from the Horizon Buffet. They only charged for 1 and it was great! At $20, it is a bargain!

After seeing the food, my wife was tempted to try the crab on our Golden cruise and she became a believer!

Hopefully the "Crab Shack" will be in an upcoming upgrade to the ships!

    Happy Cruising:D:D

  2. The Crab Shack has been a semi-trial run on the ships. They partition off a side of the Horizon Court.

The publicity could definitely be better. On our April cruise on the Grand, they had it two nights. On the Golden, it was 4 nights and a lunch. Both times, we literally bumped into it when walking up to the buffet.

The service is off the charts because they are really trying to get this off the ground and the Maitre who is running it is pushing for a promotion for running the place.

It is a real nice addition. It is a little less formal than the steak house and Sabbitini's.

  3. We had the crab shack on both our recent Alaska and Cal Coastal cruises. In Alaska, we went twice.

Portions were huge and the quality was excellent. The Mud Boil with crayfish was almost too much to eat. Crab was incredible and the portion was huge. The appetizers were six huge fried shrimp and hush puppies.

I know a lot of people think they "just want to eat crab" but the entire meal is delicious. I am sure they will provide seconds, but you will also need to order a wheelchair to role yourself out of the dining room.

All three times, we skipped desert because we were simply stuffed.

The best $20 you can spend on the ship!

  4. Any suggestions on an easy day in Loreto.

We enjoy just going to the beach, snorkeling and eating/drinking. Looking for something other than going to a resort or shopping and walking around.

  5. We were on in April and the bed was fine!

The ship was also in good shape. A feature we really liked on this ship which was different than the other Grand Class ships was a lounging area outside the Club 15. They took out what is typically the kids play area and installed outside couches which made for a very relaxing area to read, share a bottle of wine and just relax.

Overall, for one of the older ships, we had a really great cruise and thought the ship was wonderful.

Sleep well! If the bed is to firm, just order an egg crate and you will sleep like a baby!

  6. Cruising through the fjord is the best in cruising. Glacier Bay is a huge long bay which is very similar to much of the cruising through the inside passage.

The Margerie Glacier is an amazing experience, but we really love going through Tracy Arm with huge icebergs and ice floating around the ship. You do not get the icebergs in Glacier Bay.

    Go for Tracy Arm.

  7. When in Cabo, just take the waer taxi to Medano Beach. It is very easy and a better place to swim and enjoy a relaxing day at the beach, I do not recommend Lover's Beach as the tide and waves can be an issue for swimming. There are no services or restaurants on Lovers Beach and quite frankly, it is not a place I would ever recommend for someone to go to.

Tender in early and go to one of the restaurants on Medano. The cost for the water taxi will be about $7 per person.

    Happy Cruising

  8. We also cruised with the Santa's a few years ago and thought it was a lot of fun! I would recommend although not all the Mrs Claus's looked like the picture.:D

We also went with what looked like an amish group which must have numbered in the 150 range.

Never a problem and both times it was pretty cool. It added a different dimension to the cruise and broke up the norm.

Everyone seemed to be there for the same reason, fun and relaxation!

  9. They typcally decorate the door of your cabin with balloons and a sign for the occasion. You will also get a card which you take to the dining room and they serve you a special Princess cake after the meal.

We have been on cruises for practically every occassion and have all the signs which we use at home to remind us of the cruise.

    They do a nice job!

  10. I hate to point at two of the big ones, but nothing beats the steak nachos at Cabo Wabo and the fresh made guacamole at the Giggling Marlin.

We have eaten at most of those mentioned in this thread, but for a day where you are either at the beach or hanging out in town, nothing beats finishing the day with a cold beer and mexican bar food standards like these before you get back on the ship.

    Enjoy your day in Cabo.

  11. When I think of the rocking and movement on the Angelina Lauro versus todays ships, it is night and day. I often laugh at the threads about concerns about motion sickness on today's ships.

I pulled a photo from our cruise on the Angelina Laura and you are absolutely right about the little railings on all of the tables. I have a picture of us at a cocktail party and all of the tables and the bar have them to keep the glasses from rolling off the tables.

    Oh the good old days!!!

  12. As a youth, the Angelina Lauro was our first cruise. We went to Cap Hatian in Haiti, San Juan, St. Thomas and the Bahamas.

The aspects I remember most were the Italian Crew and the swimming pool. The pride the Italians showed in the dining room was the best you could ever imagine.

The swimming pool was absolutely wild. The rocking motion of the pool would slosh you from one end to the other. My brother and I had more fun getting washed out of the end of the pool and on to the deck.

I also remember the skeet shooting off the back of the ship and hitting golf balls off the side.

Those pictures of the fire are amazing.

    Really fun memories!

  13. Getting to Stone Island was a breeze following the directions posted above!!!!!

We followed those and eventually ended up at Lety's which is right next to Victors. You will see posts about Victors, Lety's and Molokay. All are right in the same area. The place you choose will probably be contingent on the availability of beach chairs.

We stayed there for about 4 hours eating shrimp (both Garlic and Coconut), quesadillas, home made tortillas, drinking buckets of beers and sodas. The Margaritas are made from squeezed limes and mineral water (really good!!). Literally, the four of us ate too much, drank too much and sunned for about $40.:D:D:D:D

    An absolutely great day!!!!!!!
