  1. We have been to Tropicante several times in the past few years and will be there again in December. We have never had to pre book anything. It will be arranged when you get there. As far as food, everything is delicious. If you go fishing and catch something, Tropicante will clean and cook it for you. Going to Tropicante is truly one of our favorite places to be when we are cruising. Very casual and low key. Enjoy!

  2. We have hired Peat Taylor for our trip to the Blue Hole and White River Tubing. Our cost is $60.00 per person inclusive of admission fees. There are 5 adults in our group. They are also taking us to a restaurant (somewhere where one of us can also get a vegetarian meal). Restaurant not included in the cost.

  3. Friends wanted to try Palancar-for some reason they didn't want to go to Mr. Sancho's. I'm not dissing as Palancar was very nice, however, imho, I think Mr. Sancho's is much nicer-at least the AI side. I have not done the pay as you go side. Food, drinks, waiters, bathrooms, pool...everything I felt was better at Mr. Sancho's. My opinion.

  4. We have gone to Mr. Sancho's at least once a year over the past several years. It is fabulous. We have always done the AI. Last week we were with friends who don't drink and didn't want to do an AI. Big mistake. We are not big drinkers, but do love food, diet coke and water...plus a few margarita's and beers. We ended up spending more than the AI would have been (they also spent more), there was no pool, very little service and the taxi was more as the place we went was past Mr. Sancho's...From now on it is a no brainer. Mr. Sancho's it is.

  5. We've been there twice. Both times during the week between Christmas and New Year's. Have made reservations both times. My teenagers used the water toys the first time (paid when we were there for those) and second time didn't feel the need. We did all inclusive both times. I wasn't keeping track if it was a better deal or not-it was just nice ordering and having someone bring be anything I wanted. Food on the AI was fabulous. Being able to eat from the buffet or order off of the menu was nice. Drinks were great. All we had to do was tip our incredible waiter at the end. I don't know how many ships were in port the last time-I think possibly 5-however, Mr. Sancho's was not at all crowded. We will go again next time we are in Cozumel. Bathrooms are very clean. No worries there. I can't remember the cost, we booked thru the 3rd party site. Enjoy!

  6. Spot on Mitsugirly! We have followed your lead for the past couple of years. We went to Tropicante which was incredible, then to Maya Chan-again incredible and in a couple of weeks we are going to try Blue Cay (Key?). We are beach people and we go to the Caribbean to go to beaches. Thanks for all of your intel!

  7. We were in Belize last week and did "Sharks, Rays & Island Getaway." We were on the Vision and did it thru their excursions. It was one of the best ship excursions we have ever done - I usually prefer to make arrangements on my own, however after waiting forever for tenders last year in Belize I decided to just book something off of the ship this year.

Assembled in the theatre, they called our group and off we went to the tender, which took us to the port. We then found our group. About 25 of us got on a really nice boat. It was new-not one of those that if you sat in the back you were gagging. And it went pretty fast - 25/30 knots or so. Then we came to the area that has been described above where you look for manatees and dolphins. Saw dolphins, no manatees, then proceeded thru the mangrove area. Slowly. Menu's passed around. We decided we would find something on our own, so didn't order. Then arrived at Caye Caulker for a bathroom break. Total time from Belize port to Caye Caulker was probably 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours. Then boat took us maybe 3 minutes out. We were split up in 4 groups-just random, not according to skills. There were in 6 in our group and we had an incredible guide. After spending time with the lots of Rays and a few sharks that showed up he took us out to the reef. Spent a lot of time there. Nothing was rushed. We then headed back to the boat and back to Caye Caulker. We had and hour and a half. My family found a vegetarian restaurant-daughter doesn't eat meat or fish-so that's where we went. It was really, really good. Great variety and they did have meat/fish options as well. Don't know the name but as you walked down the dock, go thru the restaurant that everyone else ordered from, go left down the dirt road and it's just a little ways down on your left-it is just past their version of the SPCA. Then, back on the boat for an hour long ride to the Belize port and we had about 45 minutes until the last tender. It was all perfect and a great day.

  8. From what I remember, no charge for the chairs-just use his bar/restaurant for eating and drinking. You will also be provided with tables and an umbrella if needed. As for the taxi...Steve will send you all of the information you need.

This is a cut and paste of what I received from him last year:

As for how to find us, there are inside shuttles and outside taxis, both will drop you at the same location. Inside shuttles are operated by the port and are the easiest, but they take longer and cost more. They charge $3 per person but you often have to wait a few minutes for the bus to leave, and they have 2 stops before us, so it takes maybe 10-15 minutes longer if you use the shuttles. The outside taxis are much faster, no wait and they will of course drive you straight to our place, and they are only $2 per person. You have to leave the port area and walk about 100 yards to the outside taxi stand though if want to take a taxi. The port staff will try every trick in the book to keep you inside in their shuttles so get ready. If anyone ask, just say you are looking for the exit, and not a taxi, or they will start the show! Here is the easy way to get to the taxis quickly and miss most of the “hard sell” area. When you walk into the commercial area from the pier, look up and to the right and you'll see a tower with a set of stairs going up to it and an opening on the side. Go through that opening and you will emerge outside in the bus area, missing all the aggressive vendors. Turn left and follow the chain link fence to the exit. You'll see the taxi stand 100 yards away across from the Diamonds International store that is outside the port’s gate.

If by chance you want to go through the commercial area and do get herded onto one of their shuttles, take stop number 3, which is right behind our place. This also the same place a taxi will drop you. Just walk toward the ocean, about 50 feet, and turn left and we are the second place. My sign is large and we are right in the middle of it, so you will find us pretty quick when you walk along the malecon. In 50 feet, you might hear we have moved, shut down, Steve was kicked out of the country for beating up Santa or is even dead. Just laugh it off and keep going. Some of the locals are a little tricky, but seldom unfriendly, so no worry, you have no safety concerns in Mahahual either. We are a very small and friendly town where we all know one another. That name, Mahahual, means "Mayberry" in Mayan!

As long as you have a reservation you will be all set. Enjoy!

  9. Getting back to the ship was no problem.

Take a taxi to Tropicante. We were there a few days after Christmas. There was not sign from the road at that time-I don't know if that has changed. The sign faces the beach. At the time, many people from several different bars/restaurants told us they were Tropicante. Make sure you find Steve and the real Tropicante. Very easy to do, but just be aware. Steve or 1 of his employees will set you up in chairs and bring you a menu. They will wait on you all day long. And they have a very nice bathroom! I'm going to say at most it is 10 or so minutes in a taxi. Steve will make sure you are back to the ship in plenty of time. Have fun!

  10. We were at the Atlantis last week. I went through Majestic. It was cheaper for us to do this vs going through Comfort Suites. The cost was 139 per adult and 80 for children 4-12. It was incredibly simple to do. I booked online, paid online with my credit card, printed my receipt, took at taxi (4 p/p) from cruise terminal to the Atlantis, gave the Majestic girl my receipt, headed downstairs and got our wristbands. Could not have been easier. Had read reviews that the cost of food was expensive, however, I found it cheaper than food at a Padre's game. Have fun!:)

  11. airport/westshore area has hyatt place, where we stayed in December. it was wonderful and has both shuttles you are looking for. another is Homewood suites where friends stayed, which is a bit closer to the airport and also very nice. I'm sure there are others, but I need hotels that we can put a family of 5 in 1 room, so I am rather limited. both hotels have free breakfasts as well:)
