  1. as of a month ago they took cash, visa, mc. they don't tack the extra 3% or 5% extra charges onto the visa/mc. however, you may want to check on foreign transaction fees that your card may tack on. we just paid cash to keep it simple. you are going to have a great time!

  2. we were there 2 weeks ago. meat/shellfish are grilled. you can ask them to keep something off of your plate. they made us a vegetarian plate. all of the meats/shellfish are cooked on the same grill and same utensils are used. also gave us extra meat and no shellfish on 1 plate-no allergy just general dislike of shellfish.

they have beer there for purchase. buy the bucket. I just wouldn't bring in my own. I'm not saying you can't do it, but it would be awkward-at least for me. also, assuming they are providing transportation the others on your shuttle may not want to make any stops.

  3. We stayed at the Hyatt Place Airport/West Shore 28 December. Free airport shuttle. Free shuttle to and from port. Great free breakfast. Shuttle will take you anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel. Surrounded by wonderful restaurants and shopping. Nice, clean rooms. We had 5 and a double room, so I can't give you the price comparison. Have fun!:)

  4. I made a reservation with Steve from Tropicante in late August.

We followed his directions to get out of the port area and hired a cab to take us to the Tropicante

Once we were out of the cab we were approached by a guy and he asked where we were going. I told him we were going to the Tropicante, and yes I did have a reservation. He told he was from the Tropicate and he would take us there. However, he lied. He actually took us to Tapas...a few doors down from Tropicante. This is despite the fact that I told the guy repeatedly that we had reservations at Tropicante.

Something wasn't quite right-just had that feeling. We suspected we were at the wrong place but they insisted...we were at Tropicante. I asked several times to speak with Steve. He told me Steve was there and would be right out. I asked to see Steve and again they assured me he would be right out.

From my vantage point I could not see the Tropicante sign and despite their reassurances we remained suspicious. So I took a little walk.

Well don't you know, I found the Tropicante-and Steve.

So we packed up our stuff and moved down to the Tropicante.

Oh, and after Tapa's had given us our "free" welcome margarita's (that were horrible btw and about 2 oz) they wanted me to pay for them. REALLY? Of course I refused to pay.

I told the guy at Tapa's he was a liar.

Tapas needs to learn to play fair and not lie. Things you learn in kindergarten.

And by the way...Steve is a great host. We loved our day at the Tropicante. The drinks were most excellent (and much larger than 2 oz bathroom cups), the food was delicious and our waiters were fabulous. Will definitely go back the next time we are in Costa Maya.

  5. Mr. Sancho's has pay as you go side as well as all inclusive side. We were there last week. It was fabulous. We did all inclusive and for us that was the way to go. There is everything there you could ever want. :)

  6. We were there last week. 27 y/o son and 19 y/o twins-boy/girl. Plus us old parents. My kids had a great time. They did not want to leave. Plenty to do. They jumped off the high jump for probably an hour. Spent time with the monkeys, kayaked, ate, snorkeled. It was a fabulous day.

  7. We stayed at Hyatt Place West Shore very close to the airport on 12/28.
Free shuttle from airport to hotel. It's maybe a 10 minute drive.
Free shuttle from hotel to port. It is about a 15 minute drive.
We were on NCL-cost per person on shuttle from port to airport was $20 per person. Have to wait on bus to fill before you leave.
Cost for taxi for older son who flew in was $25. Don't know if it is $25 per person or per cab.
Hyatt Place had an excellent location, free shuttle to anywhere within 3 miles. Lots of restaurants and great shopping. Also had a free breakfast. Room was nice, clean and beds were comfortable. Would definitely stay again. :)
We actually drove in from SC and the hotel had a park and cruise package and we left our car parked there for the week. Free shuttle both ways for those of us who parked our cars there with their package deal.
  8. free airport shuttle. i need this as oldest child flying in from Nevada and we are driving in from South Carolina-didn't want to worry about him at the airport if we were delayed en route.

i took this off of their website for snooze & cruise:

4 passenger trans to/from Port of Tampa, self parking for up to 14 days while on cruise Rate is for trans up to 4 persons. 10.00 USD for each additional person

There are 5 of us. our rate is 189.28

    Also includes breakfast

    hope this helps:)

  9. We went to The Boatyard 2 weeks ago. What a great day! Took a taxi there...don't remember the cost, but it was cheap-maybe $10-$15 for both of us. The cost per person for The Boatyard was either $12 or $15-I forget. If you don't want a complimentary rum punch you can get a beer. They provide transport back to the ship, chairs, umbrellas in your admission fee. They also have a great bar and restaurant-not complimentary. Sand is powdery white, water is crystal clear. Lots of water toys to rent. They have a water trampoline and water swing to use. There are the jewelry/coconut bird peddlars on the beach, but after a few times of a polite but firm no thank-you, we were no longer bothered. If we get back to Barbados, we will be here. Get there a wee bit early-they ran out of beach chairs (still had umbrellas and regular chairs) by around 11. However, they started transportation back to the ships around 12-12:30 and chairs were again readily available. Enjoy!:)

  10. We were here 2 weeks ago. It was fabulous! Food, bar, beach...everything was perfect. And clean. If you have kids, they would probably be bored, but for us it was the perfect beach day to read and relax. Enjoy!:)

  11. We had David as our driver/guide in Pisa/Florence in early July. He was fabulous! I could go on with multiple adjectives, but suffice to say we couldn't have had a better day and it was all due to David! I will always use romeinlimo in the future! :)

  12. A different thread lists lots of names of jewelers on St. Thomas, though many people believe St. Maarten is the better stop for gem stones. I'm thinking tanzanite and/or diamond slide or ring. Any recommendations? Also, what time do the jewelry stores close?

Grand Jewelers (also have one in St. Thomas). We deal with Micky. He is the brother of the owner in St. Thomas. We have been buying from Grand for about 15 years. Have never once been disappointed. Carole :)
