  1. I have inserted our Cruise confirmation/reservation number and last name in the ROYALUP website----every time the past 2-3 weeks, a error message pop-up occurs and says: MAKE SURE YOUR CRUISE is within 30 days............(see below)

Our cruise is within 30 days----I am signed up for RCCL marketing communications.............Does anyone know why I am getting the error pop-up message and it does not allow going forward for a bid? There are no errors in my last name or Reservation number.

I did not get an email from RCCL inviting me to bid----I am just going on the RCCL RoyalUP link and inputting my information.

Thanks for any insights! I did purchase thru Costco Travel--that is the only thing I can think of that may be preventing me from participating?????

  2. Yeah, I am talking about 2 "forces" kind of working against each other:

    1. Cruise Lines bus model is such that their revenue is SO concentrated from each cruise so that, each individual cruise makes a large impact on their profit: Ex: I read RCCL stopping cruises in China for a temporary time would, estimate, impact $0.10/share on RCCL stock for 2020.

1B. They estimated the possibility of ANOTHER $0.10/share impactin 2020 from the reduced future bookings on their offered cruises because of having to halt cruises in the region now ie: reduced load factor for future cruises!!!

If I am Richard Fain of RCCL, I believe he/they will make the best decisions possible for safety and their customers BUT, the economic impact of reducing ship load's (offering cancellations/cancelling cruises) is HUGE to their bottom-line because of each cruise being so important (think $3-4 Million in profit each cruise)..........

    2. Government is concerned about trying to minimize/contain exposure to try and get the issue to abate.................but, concentrating 7500-8000 people (a full Oasis class ship for example passengers + crew) totally works counter to the issue of minimizing exposure..............at the very very extreme, best way to minimize exposure is to shut down everything (like Wuhan China as a "ghost town" people are reporting.

The concentrated nature of the cruise line industry bus model +  having ships of thousands of people together works counter to the disease strategy of minimizing exposure is my point. In the end, the "media" loves to fuel the issue to attract viewers versus, what is accurate and what is not. In the US, we are talking about relatively few cases but, this ANTHEM example today (and the media exposure that follows) will RAMP-UP anxiety and concern reinforcing possible attitudes that the cruise lines are unable to get ahead of this issue alone........................2 cents.

  3. I am sure RCCL and all the cruise lines are somewhat "frantic" about the "what-ifs" that could take place if this issue continues to expand.............The media loves a good crisis for ratings but, the key is accurate info to make good decisions ie: what is true and what is not (social media has shown itself as a positive weapon and, also as an inaccurate device as well).

But, make no mistake, this Anthem OTS issue will raise everyone's anxiety that the issue is not abating...........and, at some point, if it continues, the GOVERNMENT will step-in and make whatever decisions it needs to make re: safety. At worst, that could mean shutting down parts of the industry for periods of time (again, fast forwarding worst case) so, RCCL and all  cruise lines had better make good decisions in the best interests of safety and using a LONG-TERM view.............there are certainly many examples of Corporations NOT taking this approach. Example: If Anthem issue is not handled properly, and with that many people exposed (again, if accurate), I can see the Govt. taking the decision-making power out of the hands of the cruise companies in that case................at minimum, a high-level of accurate communication is critical on-going to allow customers to make their own decisions---and, I agree, refunds/credits should be part of what is allowed for passengers wanting to make changes..................otherwise, the cruise industry is really opening itself to Government intervention in my opinion.

  4. Accurate info ie: Oasis + Symphony meeting up in Coco Cay----staff not allowed off either ship  due to 2 large ships in Coco Cay at one time. Regular cruise cycle re-starts for Oasis on Sunday 2-9 out of Miami. Quite the different charters within a few weeks of each other ie: "Atlantis" charter vs Chick Fila/no alcohol/dress code, etc.

BTW, charter estimate for Oasis class $7 Mil to $11 Mil is accurate pending time of year charter takes place ie: high season vs lower season, details of renters needs, itinerary, etc. RCCL actually has a website section dedicated to Charters with info enclosed if you are interested.

  5. John & LaLa: enjoying your review: I was on Oasis for the day on Sunday during Port of Miami turn-day. My son is a slackliner/highliner in the Aqua 80s show. Look forward to your review of Aqua 80s.............attached is a a couple pics of the slackline section of the show. Oasis looked beautiful on Sunday---amplification is outstanding!! Will be back on for full cruise in March..................

  6. Just to add to the thread, I was told by a concierge that, yes, updated Mariner does indeed have Freestyle machines on-board.

Saw another post a while back that said something about, RCCL ships that have been based outside the US may not have Freestyle machines due to challenges in obtaining Coke product to keep the machines dispensing. That made a bit of sense although, if Coke is making profit inside the US on Freestyle, I don't know why their supply chain and marketing would not include Freestyle machines outside of the US and hence, ability for RCCL ships based their to obtain product???

  7. I am sorry---we did not keep the pillow menus we received from the main dining room! (wish we had)---Day 2 was formal night confirmed--all other was casual.

Interesting, in the MDR, out of the 4 dining evenings, we went to Chops on the last night; the 3 in the MDR, I ate 1 of their specialty dinner options and 2 nights, I just ordered from the basic-everyday options......good food but not any different from RCCL food options hence why I got the pasta one night and prime rib the first evening.

Ship is in terrific shape-----staff very helpful and accommodating!

Lounges are fantastic.......suite steward was tremendous! Windjammer layout and food were the best on this RCCL ship we have had including the outdoor tables to sit---gorgeous (9 RCCL cruises)

We really missed the Promenade as the Centrum was just not large enough to handle the people when shows were done there---

Not really a place to get snacks (Pizza, etc) when you wanted a bite....

We have 3 sons (22, 19, 17) and they missed having Jacuzzis open whenever--when whirlpools were open, they were always crowded as there are only 3 and they are tiny......

Last, be aware, the automatic application of C&A member discounts was not very operational on this cruise----4/5 were missed and we had to go back and tussle with customer service to get them applied---never did get internet credit applied after 3 tries/60 minutes---don't know if this was just this cruise issue or if it is a larger issue but be aware to ASK for your discounts up-front--not a major issue but just know fyi.

    Have a great cruise!!!
