We use Elite 90 minutes of wifi to check email a few times during trip. Otherwise we do not use the phone. DH will carry it for photos... but to be honest... most of my slacks don't have pockets... and I don't carry a purse around onboard. HCat... do you purchase wifi for just a few emails? Or are you like us and just use the Elite 90 minutes.   I wonder if..... once connected to new app onboard.... if you can send texts iphone to iphone. That was the case with Royal IQ... at least for a time... then it stopped for me.. but DH could still do it... Read that someplace and tried it... mostly just to test it out

Believe it or not, I enjoy using my camera for cruise photography and for basic ship photos, I already have many EDGE photos downloaded from various non -copyrighted sources

Wifi is  for the tablet which is used fo a few e mails home, and reading

We enjoy not being tethered to our phones..,enhances conversation and relaxation,!  Not much need for the phone in the pool, spa or restaurants!

Conversation?? What is that? Seems like conversation and writing are things of the past. No one talks any more they just sit at the table and text. Sorry...just showing my age. I remember going without TV, ATM's, cel phones etc...amazing how we ever got to where we are.

OMG how did we ever travel before?

My one complaint about my recent Celebrity cruises has been the noise levels throughout the ship – not a design flaw on M- and S-class, just a decision [allegedly 'by Miami'] that music levels should be set so high that conversation is impossible, and that there should be 'background' music everywhere.  These early reports from Edge show that 'Miami' still wants it that way.  It feels like Celebrity is being positioned as the cruise line for Royal Caribbean folks when their kids have moved out.  That's their marketing choice – but it may be my walking papers...

We have been complaining about this for some time. X is just looking for a younger market and ignoring those of us with more disposal income.

No, I have not been wowed by the style so far from seeing the Penthouse or bit of the Royal Suite. Iconic Suite was kind of messy still so can’t fully judge. Not necessarily the best lighting in these photos we’ve seen so far so hopefully they look better in full daylight or full room lighting.

I have to say I have found Edge a bit anticlimactic overall from all the photos that have been coming out. It honestly doesn’t look that much different from S-class and there really isn’t much that’s “cutting edge” that I’ve seen. I’m sure I will have a comfortable and enjoyable cruise as I always do with Celebrity but I guess I was just expecting a bit more based on how much they have hyped this ship.

Overall Class is out Contemporary is in. Oh well, to each his own.

    That's funny!

I showed my husband and together we determined that the higher height of the mid rail, combined with the lower seating,  may just work better for views out than with some of the other ships verandas!  But looking through double panes of salt crusted windows could prove to be a problem.  We will just have to enjoy the extra room that these verandas offer when the window is up. 🙂

NO. I have yet to cruise her but I am disappointed in my view of the virtual cabins. I wish I had had the fore site to book an FV and therefore be able to enjoy my veranda.....which I am going to sorely miss. In the future I will stick to the M & S class because I enjoy sitting outside and not inside with an outside view. Yes, there are many plus' to the Edge but the extra cost and lack of a balcony are my determining factors.

I'm not sure how I feel about Eden. It looks like a hodge podge to me. So many different decorative styles that don't appear to have any connection or cohesiveness. It also seems a little “cold”. I guess my expectations of an “Eden” are something entirely different. Different stokes for different folks.

I could not agree more. I have been looking forward to the completion of the Edge for some time now and I must say  that some of the elements appear to be most disappointing. I will however keep and open mind till our March voyage. It appears however, that this is definitely not the Celebrity that we have known over the years.

That could be a possibility. With a second chair and table on the veranda it could be tight. Then again it could be the angle in which he is sitting that makes it seem narrow.

Could be a solo cabin which would certainly explain the space and I hope this is so if not forget the table there is not enough room for a second chair and you think "it could be tight"???

    That cabin looks incredibly narrow!

That picture looks like there is barely enough room for one......not sure I'm going to like this infinity stuff. The more I read and see the less I like. I am a traditionalist and not sure this contemporary look is for me. I am booked early March and will be curious to see if my opinions deserve merit....so yes, I will go with and open mind but.....

  8. I saw that too last week. I wasn't sure if they were really going to put Edge on the funnel or if it that picture was just for advertising. I liked it when I first saw it, but looking at it again today, I feel that it sort of detracts from the beautiful funnel. I'm sure I'll get used to it, if it ends up being a reality. :D

I kinda like it although I'm not sure I like the bow of the ship....just looks blah...like some one cut off its nose.

  9. That singer/music was very annoying:eek: and not really into Cirque type entertainment so not planning on booking until there are at least some early passenger reviews. Also the picture with the snake crawling on a woman's back was enough to make me shudder considering my fear of snakes.

We're with some of you. Loud music, Cirque type entertainment, adventurous eating and the like may be for others but not us. We seem to be entering a really different Celebrity....why not leave this to Royal and Carnival....is it really necessary for X? I certainly am curious about the remainder of the ship but am wondering if this is a mistake. For us at any rate I think M and S class fit us.

  10. They're clearly not expecting anyone over 30 on board - not an oldie in any of those mock photos. Those seats at the side of the stage have the whiff of being "suites only"

I must say and I tend to agree.....my first may be my last on the Edge........just too much as RCI is just too much Vegas. Do not need that while cruising as I can get that hype elsewhere.

  11. This just seems to be an argument that doesn’t hold water. If you are part of an airline loyalty program, you usually get free bags. Even budget airlines like Southwest offer free bags.

Maybe it is more of an issue that people do not know how to pack for a cruise. We have been able to pack for two week cruises with one bag each, plus a carryon, and we fit a tux and gowns and shoes, plus all we need.

I don’t care how people dress. They just shouldn’t use this excuse.

Now let’s get back to the build and more photos.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I could not agree more. However, 75% of our cruises are 2 weeks or longer there is no way I can travel with one case plus carry-on.....I ned two cases plus carry on. My shoes alone fill my carry-on and then there is my tux, which I will never cruise without....etc....etc.

  12. Huh, just confused, weird post.

Yes, weird post. Sorry I jumped to conclusions when I saw the name or rather something close to it I failed to check the spelling....it appeared to me to be Melania......again I assumed instead of verifying. If I offended I apologize.

It certainly got a few stirred up...sorry

  13. I certainly don't deserve to be a co-godmother, but what a thrill it would be to watch Malala christen the ship! :D

I think Lloyd would make a great Godfather. ;)

Perhaps over her husbands head.....sorry but I just could not resist and I'll not say more as this is not the forum for that....If offended I apologize but my feelings go way beyond my comment.

  14. Be prepared for more of the same. It seems the reverse bow is the latest flavor of the month as far as hull design is concerned. The Virgin Group's cruise ship has a similar bow as do some commercial vessels from Norway.

Many of the comments both positive and critical have merit. My biggest concern is the acceptance of the virtual cabin. While we have one reserved I wonder how the general public or should I say cruise public will accept the cabin vs a balcony.....they are not the same.

  15. Thanks for the updated info. Unfortunately the rep who called did not completely inform me as to exactly what was happening. She just stated that there was to be a change and that our reservation would be honored under the new format which I was led to believe was to be Le Petit Chef. After comments here and further research I now understand that it will be a dual featured dining spot. Le Grand Bistro during the day and Le Petit Chef during the evening. Now that that is cleared up we can now move on.

  16. Had a phone call from X today informing me that the slated dining facility to be called Le Grand Bistro a French Bistro which was to cover a $25 surcharge is being scrapped. In its place there will be La Petit Chef.....an animated character who appears beside your plate and prepares each course you'll be enjoying right in front of you before you're served the actual dish. It's an immersive, mind-blowing fusion of entertainment and dining like nothing you've experienced before. The cost $45 except for those who have previously booked the original restaurant....they will be billed the original $25....so we'll enjoy.
