  1. Thanks. We are traveling the first 2 weeks of Sept. I’m good with outdoor layers and rain gear.

It it was really just what to bring as nicer clothes for dinner. Nothing too fancy but wasn’t sure about bare legs vs tights and short sleeves. I’ll most likely go with summer weight and add a cardigan or shawl.

Brought up with manners -- Yes!!   I recall someone here on CC saying they would not expect their children to give up a bus seat for an elderly person.  Kind of like, "not my problem".    That kind of attitude is just sad.

I taught that to my boys when they were young.  We were in Boston, catching the T to a red socks game.  my 5 year old jumped out of his seat and said to a 20 something "you look old" would you like to sit !.  She and her boyfriend shreiked with laughter.  ( Yes she did sit and commended him on his manners.

  3. hi everyone,

I've read a lot of threads about what to wear to dinner. I cruised once before ( about 8 years ago in the Caribbean ).  We are on Royal going to Alaska in a month. i have some questions as I try to get my wardrobe lined up.

I'm trying to figure out whether I pull something from summer clothes or my winter clothes to wear to dinner.  Will it be too cold for bare legs or should I bring some tights to go with my skirts. I assume the MDR is kept at a normal temp - so maybe bare legs.

I tend to run warm, so thinking of light fabric short sleeve blouses.  ( Can throw a sweater/wrap over if too cool).

I also have some light jersey knit tunics that would also work - but they are more winter and it will be first of September.

What do you bring and wear to dinner ?

  4. We are doing one excursion that involves a zodiac and also a hike in the rainforest.  DH acquired some Eddie Bauer Waterproof trail pants and thinks I should do the same.

For regular rain, I have 2 good rain jackets ( one fleece lined, one just a shell ) that reach to my knees.

Then we will be hiking in the rainforest, as well as going on some small hikes in Denali.  Do you typically back boots or just use good sneakers ?

    Thanks

  5. Hi everyone,  I read through a few pages of posts, sorry if this has already been answered,

We sail in 5 weeks, I completed my Ocean Ready a few weeks ago - when should the medallions arrive >

    Thanks

We purchased the coffee card,  will it be on the medallion or will it be a separate card >

Curious how close is your cruise date and when did this show up in your offers?  We also had the $59.99/pp offer, but I keep reading about the 4 device package, and want to purchase that to share with our adult daughters in the cabin beside us.  Makes more sense even at the $139.99 price for 4 vs $59.99 x 4?  We don't cruise until next May, so wondered if that type of offer would come closer to sailing time?

I'm leaving in about 5 weeks.  I just saw this starting at 6 weeks.   I called both my TA and Princess and they said it was at the $139.00

I'd wait, if you buy it now - it might exclude you from the offer :)   I'm also seeing offers on the drink packages etc. For us we decided to just do the coffee card.

  7. I spoke at length with Verizon today.  Just in case this is helpful

Canada is included in the domestic plan allowance.

The analyst told me that it isn't enough to put your phone in airplane mode.  You have to turn off cellular data as well.  You mileage may vary and of course you should confirm directly with your provider.

  8. Actually - I just booked it for $104.  It was a pre cruise deal

  9. hi everyone,

This is probably wicked stupid, but I even called Princess and they did not give me an answer that made sense.

I'm cruising on Royal Princess from Vancouver to Whittier.  DH likes to update our facebook everyday with photos etc.  I plan to purchase the internet package.  Their are two:

    1) Four Devices @ 15 per week - total of $104.

    2) $60 per week per person.  - total of 120 for both of us.

It seems like a better deal for us to buy package A.  I'll use my phone and DH will use his Phone and IPAD.  I guess I don;t understand why the 4 device would be cheaper than 2 persons ? Am I missing something ?

Also - I should make sure my phone is locked down ( cell data off ) when we set sail  ? Is that correct ?

    Thanks

  10. Our cruise is Royal Princess, Northbound Alaska, leaving out of Seattle.

I have a cell phone question or two

My carrier, Verizon, treats Canada like US and all of our ports are US.  While we are cruising, I know to put turn off Cell Phone Data roaming and we are purchasing an internet package.

When do we need to turn off Cellular - as soon as we board the ship ( some sort of force field LOL ) or do we have to be a certain distance offshore ?  I'm really talking about when we are in Vancouver, at what point do we go to ships WIFI ?

I'm debating whether we need the package for both my husband and I.  Can I hotspot from the WIFI.  I'll have all my info downloaded so I won;t need to get on-line, but if I had too - it would be nice to have an option.

    Thanks

  11. Thanks for posting this topic, its record breaking heat here in Boston today ... Heat index of 110 ! and I am trying to figure out what i need to pack ( leave on Aug 31 and are doing cruise plus 5 days land ).

My husband is planning to take his parka that goes to minus 25 degrees. ( Help me ).  It's like his rain jacket that he carried almost every day in Paris ( OK - stuffed into my bag).

These responses have been very helpful.

  12. I know this is out there - but can;t find it, so thought I would ask.  I'm trying to see if the soda and coffee package would be worth it for me.

Do you know where I can find ( or do you have a rough idea of the prices for )

    Juice ( breakfast only )

    Mocktail - virgin colada

    Latte

    Hot Chocolate

    Frappe

It's $24 per day - I think the deciding point is if juice is included in breakfast.

    Thanks

  13. Hi

Has anyone stayed at the Sheraton Wall before a princess cruise ? How did it work ? I was talking to a woman at the gym ( she was just on Royal Princess to Alaska ) and she said she had to transfer back to the airport  and then to the cruise terminal.

it looks like it is less than a mile, so I would walk it with the carry-ons or take a cab as opposed to go all the back to the airport.

Have you stayed here and how did you get to the terminal ?

    Thanks

  14. Wow - thanks everyone, I've been tied up at work, so I apologize for taking so long to get back.

Glad to hear about the Deckhand Dave's move - they were on my short list as was twisted fish.

I'm too much of a chicken to ride the Tramway ! It's way too high.

The museum and the art gallery are great to know about as well as Sealaska.

I'm on the fence with mendenhall - there are 5 ships in Juneau that day -  I fear it will be like grand central station.

DH picked the evening tour, he's an amateur photographer ( although does phenomenal work ).  He prefers the light that time of day.

We live in New England and have very easy access to whale watching in that area ( and have gone to Canada as well ).  So - its not a once in a lifetime opportunity.

We are on Royal Princess - Connesuir tour leaving Aug 31 ( 12 day tour )

  15. Thanks so much - we will be there in September as well - the Aug 31 sailing - which I think is the last.

Also - did not realize there were Alaska boards  - I will check that out !

  16. Hi everyone,

I'm booked on an evening whale watch in Juneau, which means I have the morning and early afternoon free.  I think I would like to take a walking tour of Juneau, shop, visit a museum or art gallery.  We have big tours in Ketchikan and Skagway and might not have a lot of time to explore those ports.

Any suggestions ? I love seafood and Tracey's crab shack appeals to me  - but it looks crazy !

    Thank You
