  1. Weve done the same as karatemom2.....rented a car and just showed up.  But we bought the tickets ahead of time on their website. Kind of tricky to find on your own so do some research via a map before you go.  A bit pricey pp, but the food was plentiful and very good.... especially the salmon!  If you go in July, the salmon are running in the creek adjacent the camp.  Allow 1 1/2 hours to experience the entire property. Also, the limited parking was confusing, but there was an attendant who told us where to park.

    I did some follow up to the drivers license requirement in Canada and as outlined on the Canadian DMV website, a class 4 (automobile license) is authorized to drive a 2 axle vehicle with no more than 15 seats providing it is used for private use and not for hire.  If it's for hire, then a class 4 is required.

    Now that you've mentioned this, I do remember the Candian Customs guy asking me if I was driving for hire, but I never was so I answered no.  I guess that was the right  answer!

Not sure if you'd be interested in doing it yourself, but we always rent a 15 passenger van from Ann at Drive About Car Rentals in Skagway for about $400 and do it ourselves.  It's about a 60 mile drive to Emerald Lake, but lots of sightseeing along the way, including stuff like bears and Moose walking along the road.  Stop and pick up some sandwiches and beverages and plenty of places for picnics.  The kids love it!  You do need to pass thru the Canadian Border, so you'll need passports for everybody, but it's no big deal.  Ann is very accomidating so she can help you out with any questions.  We've done it 3 times and have another trip booked this August, so I highly recommend if you don't mind doing it yourself....not to mention the money you'll save.

    oyme.....first of all, as the OP, I'm in no way offended by your comments!  But let me clarify a couple of things for you.  As I'm sure you can appreciate, this event exploded in a matter of seconds and lasted less than a minute.  I was not in harms way, but there were people who were.  While I wasn't a spectator, I did spectate.  It's not like I grabbed a beer and bellied up to the front to watch. I didn't take video or cheer on the idiots.  I observed from where I was seated in the event that something bad happened and could be a witness to the event.  I'm a big boy and could handle myself if necessary, but more importantly in the event that others may have needed assistance.  Why should I give up my ground?  That's not who I am.  The young guys at the table, while obviously provoked, were not justified in beating this guy up.

     

    But the purpose of my post was to point out Carnival's new policy is apparently not being fully implemented.  Not who was right or wrong, or whether my actions were appropriate.  But I'm with you in that I find it a bit disturbing how people can come on this forum and belittle your comments and/or observations having not been there!

    Ya know Mr Blerk, you don't know me well enough to call me a liar.  But to make you feel self worthy, I'll share with you that people like you are the exact reason I rarely post on CC.  This used to be an informative and responsible forum for sharing information.  But people like you ruin it.

    Exactly!  When you have open, practically unlimited alcoholic consumption all day long, I can't imagine why you don't have roving security available throughout the ship with a minimal response time if needed.

Just off the Miracle.  We were the first out of drydock.  Not many real obvious changes.  The most obvious was the new Carnival paint scheme on the bow - All blue!.  Lots of new varnish.  All the dining room chairs were new.  Some new Carpet in staterooms.  No new food venues, including no Shaq's.  The casino bar was gone and the casino added additional slot machines and table games.  The Cruise Director Georgia said they took the ship completely out of the water and she got to touch the bottom of the ship!  She said they did some work on the undercarriage, prop and stabilizers.

    In my opinion they could have done a bunch of more updating, but I'm guessin the budget is a bit tight these days.....but we had a great cruise and that's all that matters!

    Here's the funny thing....I think everyone in the casino who was aware of this was, let's say, happy to see this outcome!  He definitely had it coming!  But my point was that Carnival sent out letters stating they would not tolerate it....kinda like towels on chairs or tank tops in the dining room!

Recently, like many of you, I received a notification from Carnival that "Rowdy Behavior" (fighting) will not be tolerated on Carnival ships, and should you be contacted for such an event, you will be fined $500, confined to your cabin and kicked off the ship at the next port stop, at your expense.  Pretty strong language!  Not that I've ever been in a fight on a ship, I thought, good....it's about time!

     

    Well......last week I departed on The Miracle out of Los Angeles for a 5 day Cabo cruise.  And on the first evening in the casino, a fight broke out!  I witnessed the fight from start to finish....saw who started it and how it ended.  It was at a black jack table where 4 friends were playing together when an intoxicated guy came up behind them and started to criticize their playing strategy. The drunk guy became so obnoxious that the pit boss called for security....but no one ever showed up.  The 4 guys put up with it for about 10 minutes, but the drunk guy wouldn't leave.  Then the drunk guy made an inappropriate comment, and the fight was on!

     

    All four guys jumped out of their chairs and proceeded to beat the crap out of this guy.....not that the guy didn't have it coming, but they started the fight.  Furthermore, it was 4 on one, with two of the guys sucker punching the drunk guy, then retreating, then re entering the fight sucker punching the guy again and so on.  The fight spilled over onto the casino floor with chairs being knocked over and it terrorized several older casino guests.  It was totally a full on donnie brook!  After about a minute, the drunk guy finally was able to get away from these guys and ran out of the casino.  His face was bleeding pretty good.  The funny thing was that not one Carnival employee tried to stop the fight.

     

    About 5 minutes later a couple of Security guys showed up.  I overheard 2 of the 4 guys telling the Security folks that they were victims of racial slurs.  And that may have been, but what they did to this guy was unjustified.  I figured under the new policy that all 5 would be fined, confined to their room and off in Cabo.  I'm sure the surveillance cameras in the casino would show them exactly what happened.

     

    In any event, the next night, I saw one of the young guys (who was doing the sucker punching) sitting at the black jack table.  I made a comment to the pit boss about the fight and she told me that the Security Team and decided not to press charges against the 4 guys because they were being harassed by the drunk guy.

    So even though they were the aggressors and started the fight, they were not going to be held accountable.  But they had to promise they would be on good behavior the rest of the cruise.  I have no idea what happened to the drunk guy.

     

    So I guess the "No Tolerance" policy is a little more tolerant than advertised.  A shame really, because this was a clear cut case of aggravated assault.  If Security would have been there in the first place, this would have never happened.

    If we don't get it we will just pick one up at the port

    We're on the same cruise......DW got hers on Saturday, mine is scheduled to be delivered today!  You would think they would mail together??????!

  13. Well, we are scheduled to leave next week and just found out we have a family issue that will cause my wife to cancel her attendance.  But she is very supportive of me going solo as we have many other friends and family going.

     

    So, because I spent several hours on hold with Princess yesterday trying to remove her from the cabin, I finally hung up. And I'm not in the mood to do it again today! Does anyone know what would happen if I just showed up at the terminal without her?  I assume this happens all the time.  (I know I can't get a refund on her passage)

I forwarded the casino department that email and they replied that I did not need to worry and that they would take care of it… Well they didn’t.  I’ve been holding for over 35 minutes should I hang up and call again?  The music drives me crazy, lol. 

    yeah...same with me.  Got the final notice in Dec and it was paid off from my end.  But early January got the notice my booking was cancelled!  It took about 2 hours to get resolved but it was.  Just a pain for something I didn't do!  I didn't have airfare so that wasn't an issue for me.

    And two days ago I finally got the updated notice from the Casino Dept that it was paid....and this is for a cruise end of March.

Yep, same happened to me last month.  Casino Dept didn't pay their portion and computer cancelled the booking.  I was able to reinstate without issue except that my original cabin was gone.  But they booked me in the cabin two doors down.  I guess the casino dept is way behind in their commitments.

I've always received it in the past on reduced priced cruises as I almost always sail on a casino rate.....but this time, denied.  I was a bit surprised, but I guess with Carnival leaking money I totally understand.  It is written in the fine print so I guess they are finally holding to their policy.

     

    I cant complain though as I got a great rate anyway.

Hope is wasn't Tongass Car rental.  We just got back from Ketchikan last week and had scheduled a car to be dropped off at the cruiseport.  Dan, (I guess the owner) never showed up.  He apparently does this quite often.....take a look ay yelp.  I did get a refund, but since we were left hanging without an apology I was not a happy camper.

    And that's great for you.....but believe it or not, we have a whole generation (me included) who have managed to survive 65 + years without it.  

     

    It's a choice......doesn't make us stupid cause we don't use it.  Maybe your life is easier with it, but I get by just fine without it and that's my choice.

    Excellent point....but in full disclosure, I have an android  that I just upgraded to a few months back.  My flip phone finally wore out and I couldn't find a new one!

     

    I'm sure when the android wears out, I'll have to buy the IPhone.......or maybe one of my grand kids will give me one of their old ones!
