  1. Another vote for Chilkoot tours. We booked 6 months before. Our bus left the dock shortly after 9:00 and dropped us downtown around 3:00 ish. Great views all the way up to Emerald Lake and many wildlife sightings. Plus lunch provided at Caracross. I highly recommend Chilkoot tours and would go with them again.

  2. Another vote for Jayleen's. We were picked up at the dock and taken to the marina where their boat was moored. It was just the 2 of us on the tour and we spent all morning among breaching humpbacks. Plus a stellar sealion and many eagles.

Even if the boat was full with 6 passengers, we would go again

  3. We went on this tour yesterday. Crossing into Canada on the bus, all we had to show was our passport. The Canadian Customs officer came on the bus walked down the aisle and looked and each passenger's Passport. No other documents required.

Beautiful day, with many stops for pictures. I also highly recommend this tour.

  4. The email I received from Chilkoot Tours on May 7 for our upcoming Yukon Klondike Adventure states that we will need,

    1. Passport

    2. Proof of Vaccination

    3. ARRIVE Can QR Code

    The email also states:

Covid testing is not required.  Masks are not required.

So it appears that Stacey is sending this email out to booked customers.

Also on their website it does state :

ALL bus only tours with our company require a PASSPORT or PASSPORT CARD. All guests participating in our 'bus only' tours must be vaccinated and carry their card on their person.
The White Pass Summit Train & City Tour does NOT require a passport or ArriveCAN.
All guests who are participating in the Yukon Klondike Adventure by Bus must complete ArriveCAN and show evidence of the ArriveCAN receipt if asked. ArriveCAN entry for boarding ships in Canada will suffice for our tours in Skagway.
Covid testing and/or masks are NOT required for any of our tours.

It appears that people are making assumptions on Covid testing when going to Canada. I understand how confusing and fluid these Covid requirements are.

  5. For us, on the Southbound from Whittier next June we loose Ketchikan for Victoria. It is my assumptions is since the Royal is a larger ship, it cannot go through the inside passage.

We were going to do the float plane to Misty Fjords out of Ketchikan. For Victoria, it appears our excursion options are very limited.

Originally we were to sail June 2021 and now The Royal is now our 4th ship we have been assigned to for our Alaska Cruise. I am just ready to go.

  6. I also received an email yesterday wanting to know how I was doing lately from Dyea Dave.

This email was not wrote in the style of what I have received from my emails with Dave last year.

And what was odd to me, it was a new email and not part of the previous email chain.

I thought it was strange that he did not acknowledge my earlier email canceling our June 2021 tour when Princess when Princess re-scheled us for 2022.

For me, I believe this is spam for me and something worse for you kldbu. I will be looking at other tour options while we are in Skagway.

  7. I received an email today from Princess stating that they have canceled my EZ Air reservations for my paid in full June 2021 sailing from Whittier. I signed into my Princess account and my June sailing is now gone.

A few weeks ago I booked a "just in case" sailing from Whittier on June, 4 2022 when cancelations looked like there were going to happen. I did this so I could have the room and location I wanted, not a room that was left over.  This 2022 Whittier booking is now paid with a sizable credit. While I have not received notification of this change, but the wheels are moving on rebooking 2021 cruises.

  8. Hi 1025cruise,

I just copied and pasted my original post from TA to save time. I did not realize at the time that that it would bring the links that TA inserts into posts with it. I did not mean to cause offence to anyone.

My original concern is still valid. In my current research have also found that the local business, especially in the ports were cruise ships call, are having very difficult times.

While currently all I have booked is only the cruise (which I hope still goes). I am a planner and had a list of hotels and tours for the land portion and local tours while on the cruise. As a planner I always tried to have a Plan B for when unexpected problems came up during a trip. Currently, I am in uncharted waters facing what to do for Plan C(ovid).

I will continue to monitor these local business and would appreciate any updates that members have if they would please post them to this board.

I do appreciate the updates that  rkacruiser, AlanF65 and bottom-dragger have posted.

    Kind Regards

  9. I posted this question on Tripadvisor last week. Now to ask the members here:

This time next year we are planning our first trip to Alaska. The first week is our "land " portion is visiting Denali and Seward. The second week is on a cruise ship going down to Vancouver.

On our trips we always try to support local shops, hotels and guides. We always prefer the local flavor in small groups instead of being herded from one location to another in a large group.

So my question is, how are the local business surviving with the quarantine and shutdown of the cruise industry this year?
