I think you would find it more difficult than you would suspect.  You may not have problems with customs etc, but you will be stopped by ships security if you try to disembark with your luggage.  The only way you can do this is to apply for early departure and be given permission after paying a fee.

If you only had a back pack or "accidentally missed the ship"  it might be possible but then I suspect you will have fun retrieving everything from your room.

It’s a moot point but if I decide to leave the ship for whatever reason, settling all bills etc, I really cannot see how the cruise line could refuse or indeed charge me. It’s not a prison ship. I accept there would be no possibility of a refund.

Perhaps possible in other places but besides the ethical and moral issues involved in jumping ship with a known (or strongly suspected) case of CoVid- you could not disembark in Lisbon. It was not allowed- and disembarking entails more than simply getting off the ship with your baggage. Immigration, customs etc all need to be in place. We had looked into this as a possibility because it would have been more convenient to get around from Lisbon for the rest of our (since cancelled) trip.

If you  are from an  EU country (which I am),  with an EU passport,   you should be able to  disembark in Portugal, Spain or France without difficulty.  Not sure what the position is for UK citizens post Brexit.

I don't know far they where from Libson or the Azores when thameside starting having the syptoms. If it was me a day out of lisbon I would have just got off the ship with my stuff and flown home and told them i will leave the ship instead of being in the cabin. I don't think they can stop you from getting off the ship if you do want to stay.

I would be encourage to do that as well. But a few things:

    1) The authorities in the port. Will Celebrity alert them to the fact you have covid?

    2) You may be feeling terrible and not able go manage getting to a hotel/flight.

    3) Would you lose the prorate refund on cost of cruise?

It would be useful if Celebrity could issue a statement or policy saying that the objective is to house those quarantined in balcony cabins but this may not be possible depending on the number of cases.

  4. Sailing on Thursday from Southampton on the Silhouette. I was totally freaked out about catching the virus and being quarantined in an ocean view cabin ( I do have real problems with confined spaces) but I have come to terms with this now because

    1) The chances of catching the virus are reasonable low if I mask up really well  and am careful. No travel in elevators, no  shows, no port tours (open top local bus tour be great),  walk everywhere in port no sharing table in bars or restaurants.

    2) Took a virtual tour of an Ocean View and it's actually not that bad.  Big window. Unlikely I would be out on a balcony anyway as I will be ill.

    3) If worst comes to the worst and I cannot deal with it I will disembark at the next port, shack up in a local hotel for a few nights and arrange a flight home (I'm British Isles) so cheap enough.  So longest confinement would be 1 day.  This is an unlikely scenario but in my mind is a safety valve.

If confined to an inside cabin I will leave at the next port.  That is something I could not deal with.

  5. I just heard from friends who are sailing on the Queen Mary later this week that they have a Covid situation on board and that due to this they are implementing full mask rules again. And if those sailing are not happy with this they can get a full cash refund.  Hopefully Celebrity will follow suit on the Silloutte for cruise leaving Southampton on Thursday which I on. We will be wearing masks anyway but would be of great comfort if everyone else is as well.

On the desk 3 quarantine cabins could it be that the veranda ones are all full with other Covid patients?

  6. I'm booked on the Silhouette from Southampton on Thursday next. I suffer from a little claustrophobia and while I would just about be able to deal with quarantine in  a balcony cabin I could not hack it in  an ocean view with no way to open the window and let fresh air in. I'm going to cancel now.  I booked in November last with my booking including all the Covid guarantees.  However with these guarantees no longer available on the website for new bookings I am unclear of my cover and my travel agent unavailable over the Easter weekend. As I recall I can cancel within 2 days of the cruise without a reason and get full cruise credit. Can anyone please confirm this to me?  Thanks

  7. I'm sailing from Southhampton on 21st April.  The app says that " health and safety protocols for this cruise have not been announced. We anticipate both vaccination and testing requirements and encourage vaccine boosters".

  8. I think OP is talking about the Balkans here.  Not the Baltic.  Do some cruises not go to Croatia (Dubrovnik and Split?)? Not sure if any policy changes on this as certainly Serbia appears to be lining up with Russia in the conflict.

Fifth grade reading level context clues tell you how to interpret the word "currently" in post #2. OP's questions are impossible to answer because there are currently no cruises to cite examples from.

FYI.  There is a France and Spain cruise out of Southampton on 21st April next.

  10. Hearing that many passengers are not wearing masks is very concerning. I am very surprised to hear that Celebrity is not enforcing this.As well as the health risk it would just annoy me too much to have a good time. This has lead me to cancel a February cruise.

USA not a total disaster.  It started here later than in China and Europe.  The predominant East Coast virus came from Italy.  Our curve will flatten and the virus will dissipate just like everywhere else. Many many parts of the US have very little virus around.  Remove nursing homes/assisted living facilities from the picture.  And try not to focus on the worldwide media attention to the NYC area which is bad but not indicative of most of the USA.  Community transmission has slowed dramatically.   It is happening.  Don't despair.  Really.

Localised alright but with population of 4 or 5 times that of the US China had less than 5,000 deaths compared to with 71,000 deaths and growing in the US..  I think that  if there were vastly more deaths in China and in other regions US intelligence would have picked up on it.  Leads me to believe there has been massive mismanagement of the situation in the US and particularly as the country had more time than most to prepare.  I love the US but have no intention of travelling there any time soon.

Not that local if you live in England.😁

I do not think you would want to go to the US anyway which is now the global centre of the epidemic with trends upwards.  It strange the way the things have turned around with the Far East now a far safer bet for cruising with the countries there having managed the epidemic far more effectively than Europe and even more so than the US which is comparison seems to be a total disaster.
