Peak hurricane season. Maximizes time in sheltered ports. Even in a passing glancing blow from a storm.

12 months a year?  Check NCL.com and the posted letters from NCL in this thread.  Napali coast is gone for all future bookings.

If they were comfortable in what they were doing they would not have to constantly object to others who wish to elevate the atmosphere. On my 12 day, I was pleasantly surprised that 90% of the ladies made a sincere effort to rise to the level of ambiance NCL offered in their main dining rooms. Saddened that their male escarts did not make the same effort. Yes they with very rare exception did meet the very low standards set by NCL but they did a great dis-service to their partners by not looking like a couple.

    🤣I guess I'm the 10%!

The reports indicate that the current variant is more contagious than prior versions and it is expected to take off, but who knows.

Does "more contagious" equate to "more serious?"  I don't think so.  Covid seems to become less severe with every variant (typical pattern for viruses), so there may not be any real news here.

At the very least, book a balcony if you can. If that's not budget friendly, then book inside and spend all your time outside.

I agree.  Even if I have a balcony, I'll still be spending most of my time in the observation lounge or great outdoors.

Not necissarily required but after doing Alaska without a balcony I wished I would have had a balcony lol

I've done Alaska both with and without a balcony.  The ones without were on the Jewel, which has the Observation Lounge and Great Outdoors just like the Sun.  If budget/pricing is an issue with the OP, I wouldn't discourage them from sailing the Sun in an inside.  Alaska is great no matter how you sail!

I believe it does have both the "observation lounge" is Spinnaker's I think.

I miss the Great Outdoors on the aft of the newer ships!

That's why I was asking why you thought that a balcony was "required."

We are just returned from the Sun Christmas and New Year cruise out of Lisbon.

We have sailed on the Spirit many times and the Jade around the Greek islands but would not sail on the Sun again.

    What didn't you like?

Sounds like it would work great for you as long as you get a balcony.

Doesn't the Sun have a nice observation lounge plus The Great Outdoors deck on the rear of the ship?

Just curious - why did you test if you didn't feel sick?

My sailing partner had symptoms and I had been a bit congested.  Since we had a bunch of the free tests, we both took them.  She was negative, but I was (surprisingly) positive!  The congestion only lasted for about a day and I felt great the entire time, despite testing positive for another week or so.   I read about a lot of people testing positive, but fortunately most postings haven't reported people getting seriously sick or having to go to the hospital.  I don't think Covid is anything to worry about for most reasonably healthy people anymore.

So my first question is, is it necessary to  spend extra money for the specialty restaurants each night or is the MDR gonna be decent food?

It's not.  Besides the MDRs, you'll have The Local and the buffet.  I've had excellent dinners in all of them.
