1. We decided to try the Grandeur when CCL Pride left Baltimore. Booked a whole year in advance and was very excited to try a new ship. We loved the Grandeur Centrum area, always something going on there. Two of my other favorite places were the Viking lounge in the afternoon and Schooners at night with the panio. Entertainment on this ship was great.

What I did not expect is to fall on the first day and spend the trip in a wheelchair. I broke my foot and ankle. All the staff were very supportive and helpful. Our room steward was always asking what we needed and how I was doing. windjammer staff found us a table each day for lunch and got my drinks. Very friendly and helpful.

The only problem we had was with guess service staff. From the first day asking for a wheelchair to the last questioning how I would get to our car since I could not walk very far, know one gave us the same answer. They had a very chilled attitude like they were reading their answers from a script. After the first day know one called to see how I was or if we needed anything.

We did book another cruise for Feb 2016. I would like to experience the grandeur without the wheelchair. Did not get to shop, use the pool or do some of the things I wanted .

  2. Actually, if you were on the 1 Nov cruise with us, it was a 10 night cruise, not 11.

We had a great trip. Our toilet was slow to flush a couple of times which is very common on ships. Sometimes it's because people flush things they shouldn't.

We never smelled the sewer smell, but that happens on all ships occasionally, even, gasp Carnival.

Upper deck was closed because on our March cruise on GR, we had rough weather and the deck split. They're working on it and what you saw as "Kindergarten kids painting the deck" was only the first coat.

Yes, there was a slight smell of what they were applying, but it wasn't an issue and I never heard anyone complain about it.

As for the onboard account, GR is an older ship and they can't run the cabling required to do that.

The reason there was no air conditioner in the WJ (started the third sea day I'm pretty sure since we didn't really need a/c before that) was because it broke and they couldn't fix it til we were in port, which was our first port of Cozumel. If you listened to the noon announcement by Capt Espen you would have heard him explain that. As my DH (retired US Navy Captain) said, we're lucky they were able to fix it because how a/c works on ships is very different than what you have in your home. Most of us who went into the WJ when it was hot, brought our food out and ate on the pool deck and it honestly was just a blip. By afternoon in Cozumel, the a/c was working great.

Thanks for the positive comments about GR. We are platinum CCL cruisers and going on our first RCL cruise Feb 2015. We choose Gr for her depart port, Baltimore.

I try to go on every cruise with a positive attitude and enjoy each moment.

CCL splendor out of NYC, last March, has AC break at least 3 times on our cruise. Things happen on all ships.

Also all ships have problems with their toilet system,

I hope to return from my cruise with a new great experience

  3. Hi

I just got the same email everyone else received. The problem is the RCL Grandeur of the Sea is taking the dock in Baltimore on certain Sundays.

I called Carnival and talked to a couple of people there. The PVP's did not know about the cancelations or what cruised will replace them. What I did get was that this Friday Carnival will be posting the schedule of the cruises to replace the canceled ones.

May statement to them was that I was upset since I have already had a Nov2014 canceled and a b2B Feb 2015 canceled.

I also told them it would be better busiess practice to announce the new schedule the same day the sent the cancelation.

Oh well, May look into RCL on Oct 25th.

  4. Go with a positive attitude. There might be something that will not be to your liking, but it doesn't have to ruin your cruise.

Some people just can't be satisfied with anything. We love the Grandeur. Every cruise is different and we have been on the Grandeur several times and have enjoyed each cruise. The staff is great and the ship is beautiful.

Enjoy and don't sweat the small stuff. And come back and let us know how great the cruise was......;) And have a drink for me on my birthday, August 16th.

    Gwen :)

We will be crusing on rcl and Grandeur for first time in Feb 2015. Although I am a Platium Carnival cruiser I am looking forward to the new experience RCL will give us. We have cruise cc so much that I know the mdr menu by heart. Looking forward to the surprises on RCL.

We are in our mid 60's and enjoy relaxing and people watching, so this ship should fit our needs. I always feel your cruise will be fun if your attitude is good.

  5.
Welcome to Royal Caribbean. You can find price drops up until final payment date, but you have to search for them or sign up on a website that alerts you to drops. After final payment, you can not get a price drop but you may move up in stateroom category. What ship are you sailing?
Granduer of the Sea, room 8039 ov. I usually book BL but RCCL is pricer, so I'll try OV. Booked for deport location and length of cruise
  6. I know !!!! I get that not every platinum cruiser gets irritated with the fftf people lol ... and we thank you for that !!! We are trying really hard to get there too lol ....and I understand that they paid a lot more than the 50 I did to get on board early. This was a little tongue in cheek post but I really do mean it.

I am a platimun cruiser with 94 days cruising. I would purchase FTTF if I were not Platimun. I have not had any FTTF be rude to us at all. They only sell so many so what is the big deal. Enjoy

  7. I am a Platimun Cruiser with Carnival. We cruise two, sometimes three times a year. They just canceled three of my upcoming 2014 and 2015 cruises. My dh does not fly which is why we love NYC and Baltimore cruising ports.

We are cruising our last two CCL cruises in March and Oct of 2014, but unless they return we are switching cruise lines. We just booked RCCL Grandeur of the Sea out of Baltimore for Feb 2015. When I compare the cost of CCL cruise plus expenses and time to drive to FL, RCCL was cheaper and I would rather be on a ship for two days then fighting weather and traffic. Sorry Carniva I was loyal to you but you are not Loyal to me.

  8. Thanks Steve

I am retired and spend alot of time searching sites for good deals and price drops. I never have sailed paying the booking price. Always got a drop by checking it each day. You never know when they have a special sale. Some times they last only a few days.

Have you been on Grandeur of the Sea?

    Sandy

  9. Hi I am new to RCCL.but have CCL Platimun Cruiser. For CCL they have fareviewer link to their site to check daily price drops. Does RCCL have anything like this? I booked a 10 day cruise in Feb 2015 on the GOTS. Very excited to cruise a new ship and line.

I called to book the site but was wondering if anyone had a favorite CVP they used and could recommend to me. I like dealing with just one person. I used the same PVP on CCL for my last 10 cruises.

My decision to change cruise lines was CCL pulling out of Northern ports. Their lost, because after trying RCCL I may never go back lOL.

Any tips or info on RCCL would be greatly appreciated.

  10. As we like to say, it is INCLUDED in your cruise fare, in other words, free to you once you are on the ship. It is a nice little venue for an alternative to MDR or WJ. On some ships, it closes at 6pm, but, on others, it is open for late night snacks. What ship are you sailing on?

Grandur of the sea. first time rccl. Learning all i can about her
